A storm swept across the jungle world of Dxun, the chilled ice rain falling between the cracks of the large canopy overhead. Critters could be heard throughout, echoing among the shaking trees, and the sound of large beasts off in the distance. He had never been on the planet prior, but when Max had asked him to take part, he couldn't turn it down--and with the lost of Nash still lingering on his mind, he knew he needed to get out there. They were to be hunting Maalraas, a dangerous beast that would lurk and hide in the shadows, using the force to hide their visibility.

They were insanely difficult to kill and quite dangerous in pacts, so much so that Mandalorians respected their numbers. He knew that they were lightsaber resistant, and thus he brought a vibrosword, the crude weapon felt strange in his hands, but he knew that this would be no easy task. He would have Izel with him, the apprentice from Ifrane. The two of them hadn't worked together since then, and a lot had changed about the Jedi Master, but he knew that she was competent and he believed that the two of them could do their job. The two of them walked along the path that lead towards the supposed den, though they were still some ways away. "I hope training has gone well Izel.." The master would say, hoping that some small talk would ease the mind of the apprentice.

Izel had expected Dxun to be more like her homeworld, but it became clear very quickly after setting foot on the jungle moon of Onderon that this would be nothing like her forays into the wilderness of Thyferra. Through the Force she could sense the dangerous predatory creatures all around them. The whole world felt unbearably tense. She didn't allow this to affect her though. She had been studying and training relentlessly since the last time she had encountered Oren. Unlike Ifrane, she was well in command of her emotions this time and able to remain calm despite the dangers lurking around them.

The Vratix looked over the Jedi Master as she followed behind him, her antennae twitching absently as she took note of the prosthetic and scars. It made her feel guilty knowing she had been on Ajan Kloss doing nothing to help the Order while Jedi like Oren were out risking their lives, and in the case of the recent attack on Coruscant, dying to uphold their creed. But she didn't let these feelings get to her. That was in the past. She was here now, and she intended to make a difference.

"Plenty of training, woefully little practical application." Izel answered Oren as she looked to and fro, keeping on alert and her weapon at the ready. She carried a pike with a vibro-blade edge, a tool she chose specifically for this mission. "But I'm grateful for this chance to prove myself Master. I promise, I won't let you down." He would be able to hear the confidence and determination in her tone. She meant it.

Oren would pull himself onto a narrow rock, his sturdy boots crunching into the ground as he tried to gain traction across the slick surface. The landscape on Dxun was dangerous and tough, but it beat being on Ifrane, appearances aren't everything..remember Lilith and remember Trys...we need to keep an eye out. It seemed this time though, that Izel was more prepared than she had been in the past. She carried herself with a sense of duty and purpose, and he highly doubted that she'd simply run straight into the unknown like last time.

He could feel her looking onto his scars and his hand, and accepted it. "Well, today is one of those days Izel," he'd say with a soft smile, "These beasts are difficult, and I have feeling that they can be lurking anywhere," he'd place his hands on his hips as he looked out over a small ravine. There was a vine that hung from one of the many dense trees, it was long enough that it would allow for them to cross if they swung, but one snap and it could send them plunging into the raging river below. "Just like old times.." He'd smile as he decided to go first.

The Jedi Master would cast out with the force, bringing the prickly vine into his hand as he ran down the slick and narrow rock, soon he'd be arching through the air as he felt the vine pull and swing. Just as he reached the arc, he'd jump with a small roll through the air, quickly landing on his feet on the other side--a bright smile would form on his face. He peered down towards Nash's crystal which clung around his neck. He knew she'd be proud of him.

Izel had an easier time traversing the terrain then Oren. Thanks to her insectoid biology her feet were more easily able to find purchase and cling to the uneven rocks on their approach to the ravine. "I have no doubt," The Padawan replied as she followed. Her antennae twitched again. "There are so many creatures around us, it's impossible to pick out the ones we're looking for. This mission might take quite some time..."

She watched patiently as Oren took hold of a vine to swing across the ravine, reminding her of their horrible little 'adventure' on Ifrane. Once the Master safely made it to the other side and released the vine she used the Force to pull it to her. Without hesitating she jumped, following in Oren's path she released the vine at the peak of her swing and leapt the rest of the way to the other side. Her form wasn't quite as graceful as the Master's, but she made a solid landing on the other side and clicked with satisfaction as she joined him again.

"Are there any particular methods that have been developed for sensing those that can cloak themselves through the Force?" She asked curiously as they continued their march through the jungle. "Or is the plan to bait them into a trap?" She had never encountered anything like a maalraas before, and was relying on her elder to have a plan to combat the beasts.

"You simply need to trust in your instincts, and within the force Izel," the Master would say with a gentle smile, his mechanical hand planting firmly on the girl's shoulder as they walked. "Within the movements of the world, the lurking of beasts and the soaring birds of prey above, you will find peace, life--and death. This planet is a microcosm of our larger galaxy, and can serve as a potential inspiration for the challenges we will soon face."

The galaxy was close to war, and with the return of the Sith at their wake, it would take not only the Council and the Masters, but the Padawans to eventually grow and mold their skills to help protect the galaxy against grave dangers. "You're relying on your eyes?" The Master would turn, his white eye peering towards her. He was still training it to get better to see with the force, and could see flickers of her own force essence within her, but it took some concentration. "Will you use the force to see for you?" He'd say with a slight wink, but would pause as they came to another ledge.

Two large vinelike roots would extend across large trees, they'd be ample enough to dash from the various trees, and make it to the other side. Little did the Master know at the time that the ground on the otherside had been covered in moss, and would easily collapse. "I'll go first." He'd say as he stepped forward, dashing into the air and running across one side of the large tree. He'd dive quickly to the other tree adjacent from it and so on, making the movements look rather easy.

The problem came when he landed on the other side, his black boots would plant firmly into the ground, and just as they did the ground would give out from under him and he would fall into the depths of bramble and barbs, prickling and poking at the master as he fell into the unknown depths of a den. Izel would have to find a different way to the cave system, and would have to be on alert for the beasts tracking her.

rolled a 21 -- Separated for at least two rounds I'd say, so you'll be on your own against possible beasts, and I'll be forced to fight some myself.

"Right..." Izel said with a sigh in response to Oren's advice, and tried to center herself. She paused in her path and took a deep breath, trying to shut out the distracting noise around her and form a more solid connection between herself and the very life of Dxun. It was starting to work. She could feel the breeze on the branches and leaves of the jungle, and the padding feet of different creatures. What she failed to notice was Oren landing on the unstable moss and falling down into the caves below. At the sound of a crashing noise the Padawan looked up and returned to the present, only to see her elder was nowhere to be found.

"Master?" She asked with concern, and looked around. There was no sign of him. Surely if he was attacked I would have heard it. She assured herself, and tried to remain calm. He must have fallen down the ravine somewhere and could be injured, she had to focus. Instead of attempting to get to the other side of the ravine where Oren had actually gone she began slowly making her way down the cliff face, keeping a sharp eye out for any sign of the Master as she went. Unfortunately she would find nothing.

Reaching the bottom of the ravine she leapt down onto the mossy earth beside a small stream, starting to follow it further away from the caves where Oren had fallen. "Master Zapan?" She called again, stuck between trying to make her voice heard and not attract the attention of the maalraas. She kept her weapon raised, continuing to slowly make her way downstream. The Padawan was well aware that the longer she and her fellow Jedi were separated the more at risk both of them were. She had to find him and fast...

Two of the beasts watched the bug-like girl climb down the cliffside and into the abyss of the Dxun Jungle below. She thought she was approaching the other, where their mother waited, but little did she know that she was entering their playpen, and the kiddies were hungry for a feast. The sister looked at the brother, and silent they morphed into the background.

The brother would lurk behind the young Jedi as the sister would slide a few meters ahead. They would prepare their attack, lunging from both angles towards Izel. It would be dangerous and she would need to be on high alert or risk a serious injury.

Oren fell along the branches, crashing through the bramble, the pricks hurt, but in a way they helped to lessen the impact of the descent into the cavern below--to something much more a low thud. He'd fall into the cavern dirt, with a small cloud of dirt and smoke pouring out around him. He could see the a faint sunlight coming from the cracks above, but it did little to aide in seeing.

Instead he would unclip his newly forged saber, igniting it to reveal a white light that cast out upon the shadows. It seemed he had fallen into the heart of the den, and there were no beasts in sight. Yeah right... He would think to himself with a soft smile. Taking a deep breath he would begin to center himself like he had been practicing for so long, eventually he hoped to maintain it, but for now it was still a work in progress.

Slowly his dead eye would come to life, and through it he would see the flowing of the force humming through him. Peering out towards the cave he would begin to see subtle hints and flashing of the force around the room, as he attempted to pick something up.
He would see something lurking from above and his head would quickly peer up to see the force presence of a large beast lurking and lunging towards him.

He'd raise his saber striking towards its face as he rolled to the side, but it seemed the attack did little. Kriff...I forgot that these things are well.. lightsaber resistant. He'd take a deep breath as he deactivated his blade as he pulled himself up from his roll. The den mother slowly pull back the cloak with a roar. I guess I'm going to have to use the force for this one.

rolled a 67 to sense the coming attack.

Izel slowly and cautiously made her way through the ravine, following the stream. She remained alert and as prepared for an attack as she could, using both her eyes and her Force senses to try and locate her missing ally. She kept the Master's words in mind, opening herself to every detail of the lush world around, becoming acutely aware of every detail. It was because of this she managed to identify the incoming attack from ahead of her.

As she moved along the bank she took notice of the smallest movement. Though the female maalraas in front of her was invisible, it's effect on the world around it were not. The Vratix spotted a sudden splat against wet stones jutting out from the water, as though something with weight had just landed on it. The Padawan moved her weapon up in a subtle motion as she followed the movement, antennae twitching. Paws moved from one stone to the other, then made soft, barely noticeable indentations in the muddy earth before her. I don't think so... The Padawan thought to herself, focusing her Force senses directly in front of her, just able to make out the faint outline of the creature stalking her.

The female maalraas leapt forward silently, intending to gut it's unsuspecting prey. Instead it found itself skewered on the end of the Padawan's vibro-pike. The creature let out a wail of pain as it decloaked, squirming as it hung suspended in the air by the Vratix's weapon. Izel's feeling of triumph was short lived however, for while she was focused on the dying beast it's brother pounced from behind, digging it's claws into her back and biting down on her shoulder.

The Padawan cried out painfully and twisted, using the blunt end of her pike to jab the male in the belly and force it off of her. The two separated, now facing each other. Izel chittered angrily, feeling the warmth of her own blood trickling down her back. She was lucky the beast wasn't familiar with an alien like herself, otherwise it may have bitten her in a more vital area. They began circling each other, the maalraas growling menacingly and the Padawan remaining silent as she evaluated her opponent, preparing to defend herself. She had managed to kill one of her assailants, but now the other's guard was up, and she was injured. This was far from over.

His lightsaber would be of little use to him this time, and instead he would be faced with the challenge of relying on the force, and a bit of trickery to defeat this large dangerous mother. Part of him was reluctant to attack such a creature, he did not care for killing as he found it to be cruel and inhumane, but he knew that there was no other choice--these creatures were too dangerous and predatory to be left alive--he had to do what was needed, and he knew the beast held no qualms with bringing the Jedi Master to his demise.

He would step forward, his brown eye peering towards the ceiling of the cave, noticing a large natural formation jetting down. The Jedi Master would bait the creature forward, close to the pillar structure and he'd flip back, and use the force to pin it down--or so that was the plan. Raising his hands he'd beckon towards the creature, motioning for it to come towards him.

The monster would roar, it's mandibles clacking as it ran towards him before leaping with a lunge; sharp claws drawn towards his face. He took a deep breath, following through with his plan. He'd flip through the force with grace, his hand casting out as he took a deep breath, and slowly the cave would grown and shake as he pulled the large jetting rock from the foundation of the roof's cavern, splintering and jetting out with dust, his fingers and hands would yank down quickly towards the beast sending the stalagmite into the beast with a large thud, the cavern would groan and tremble as well as the beast which cried in pain. Oren would waste no time, using one of the large boulders that cracked from the structure, and sending it towards the beasts head with a thud--crashing into it.

He could feel the pain raidiating from the beast as he turned away, it was trapped and critically wounded, he could bury it, but what would the point be? Without a Vibroblade, he lacked anything to humanely put the beast down, and so he turned. "May the force be with you," he'd mutter as he peered towards the rumbling and tumbling--it seemed the cavern was going to collapse due to the removal of a crucial support column. We need to get out of here..

/3 Rounds left to make two obsticles, if I crit fail, I'm buried in and will need to do another thread to try and find a way out.

Izel stood up to her full height, trying to scare the maalraas into fleeing. It had lost the element of surprise after all, and it's pack-mate was dead. Most predators would have been thinking of self preservation by now. But the creature wasn't being fooled by her display. She could see the vicious intelligence in it's eyes, and the hunger for blood.

Suddenly the maalraas disappeared again, causing Izel to curse and look around frantically. "Agh, focus! Focus..." She told herself, trying to calm her mind and find her hunter through the Force. She was off-balance though, and slow to react. The maalraas leapt at her from the left, biting into her arm and yanking at it harshly. The Padawan cried out and swung her pike in it's direction, but the beast was faster, releasing it's hold on her arm and jumping back out of the way of her strike before disappearing again.

Izel clicked her mandibles, her antennae twitching rapidly as the anger rose in her. She looked over the area where the maalraas had attacked from, trying to sense it or spot some sign of it's movement. Her injured arm hung limply at her side, forcing her to wield her weapon less effectively with her one good arm. The maalraas attacked once more, this time from behind. It latched onto one of her back legs and pulled hard again, causing the Vratix to collapse in the mud. Izel screamed furiously and rolled over, swinging wildly in the beast's direction, but it was already gone. Slowly the Padawan struggled to stand up again.

You need to run... She thought to herself. You're getting torn apart and you're losing your nerve. Get to a better position and collect yourself. Focus! You are a Jedi! She'd have to get away from the maalraas first. Despite herself the Padawan took a deep breath, lowering her weapon and reaching out with the Force. She connected herself to the world around her once more. To the ground beneath her feet, to the trees, to the creatures all around her. It was a chaotic storm of different emotions and thoughts. But through the gale she spotted it. Her hunter. He was attacking from the right this time...

At the last moment Izel turned and raised her pike, the creature's jaws biting down on the metal staff instead of her. With a great heave she threw the maalraas over her shoulder and into the river, then made a break for it. With the aid of the Force she jumped up to the side of the ravine and began scurrying across the cliffside, glancing back to see the maalraas was already pulling itself out of the water. It didn't look happy. She had managed to escape for now, but she doubted the beast would let her go just like that.

@TWD26 (failed to kill the maalraas and took another injury, will try to hide from the maalraas and heal myself on the next roll)

Oren wasted no time, realizing that things were starting to slowly get more and more unstable as time progressed. He would activate his lightsaber once more, using the bright white light to spread across the twisting and turning rocks and roots that made up the cavern. He would lose balance a few times as he felt the ground rumble beneath him and the slow collapse of more and more of the cave.

There were so many possible diversions on the path that it made it extremely difficult to judge on where one would possibly exit. Oren would use the force to guide himself, leaving it up to chance on where he'd end up. We'll find Izel, I know she can handle herself...There was no use worrying about what the apprentice was stuck doing, the force would work itself out, and the two of them would simply pick up the pieces.

Oren dashed and lept past several rocks, with a quick fury, as he heard the tumbling rocks heading towards him, he could see a light in the distance and would pick up speed, jumping out with the force and would begin to descend down a large waterfall and plunging into the depths of a murky lake below.

He'd kick up, quickly pulling himself out, but would find that the pack leader had been returning to the area, it seemed he was farther away than he had initially been, and had no idea on where exactly he was. With a fight of a lifetime and no saber in hand, things were about to get very interesting. Hello There...

/Rolled a 30, now farther away from Izel and have to fight the pack leader, but escaped from the collapse of the caverns.

Izel scrambled desperately across the cliffside, trying to put as much distance as possible between herself and the pursuing maalraas. Thanks to her injuries she had a harder time than usual clinging to the vertical surface, and with a sudden stumble her vibro-pike slipped from her grasp, clattering down the rocks into the ravine below.

"No!" Izel hissed, and reached out, trying to use the Force to return it to her, but the weapon was already out of her sight. She cursed and kept moving. Right now staying alive was all that mattered. She continued along the cliffside until she found a crevice ahead. Without wasting any time she quickly crawled inside and maneuvered through the tight space as deep inside the darkness as she could. Agile as the maalraas may have been, there was no way it could reach her in here.

Izel sat down with a heavy sigh and took a moment to catch her breath and examine her wounds. She knew she couldn't stay here for long. She had to find Oren and complete the mission, no matter how bad her condition was. Taking a deep breath she placed the palm of her good hand on her back and reached out with the Force. She could feel the deep cuts closing up, healing at a highly accelerated rate. She used the same process for her left arm and back leg. Still, this was a technique she was yet to master, and although greatly improved her arm was still sore and had little range of motion, as did her leg.

The Padawan took a few more minutes to just sit and strategize, rushing back into the fight would do her no good. She figured that the maalraas would track her by blood and scent to the crevice. Although it wouldn't be able to squeeze inside like she had it would likely be trying to. That or waiting a short distance away to surprise her again when she came out. If she could just find another way out and get above the creature she'd have an advantage over it. Izel looked around for any obvious passageway out of the crevice. When she found none, she slowly put her hand on the stone. The Force flows through everything, She thought to herself. Even the earth... She reached out with her senses and could find a small path leading up to the surface above. It would be a tight fit, but if she could move the rocks blocking the path she was certain she could make it. With a deep breath the Padawan raised her hand, and started using the Force to move the rocks blocking her in.

Oren pulled himself up onto the shore, watching as the large beast came rushing towards him. It was far bigger than the den mother, and it seemed more intent on taking out the Jedi, and it seemed skilled enough to do just that. The hound would slowly morph into the shadows, but the Jedi Master knew it was still coming towards him.

Quickly, he would pivot his foot into the sands of the lake, calling on the force to pull water from behind him and pushing it outwards, splashing himself and direction of where he thought the beast was coming. He knew it wouldn't injure the creature, but the soaking nature would leave it dripping and would cause a small trail to form along wherever it went--if it got to that point.

He saw the water splash against something, outlining a shimmer of the beast and he attempted to roll out of the way, but it was much quicker than he expected. He felt a slash against his right arm, tearing his tunic and causing a laceration against the side of his arm. He'd groan in pain as he rolled, quickly pulling himself up and using his left hand to push the now visible beast--and throwing it into the middle of the lake.

He listened as it screamed and plunged in. It would take some time for it to try and pull itself up to the surface and Oren would have it where he needed it. He rested on his knees his clothes soaked and panting--right arm burning with pain, but there wasn't time to worry about that now. Finish this creature off and get to Izel..

One by one Izel used the Force to move the rocks in her way, slowly but surely opening up a path to the jungle above. Over time thin rays of light began to appear above, and though the strain of repeated Force use was starting to affect the Padawan, she managed to complete her task and create an escape route. With a sigh of relief the Vratix got up and started climbing, squeezing her body through the narrow passageway with some effort and finding herself back on the ground before the ravine.

Cautiously she crept back to the ledge, careful not to give away her position. Peering over the edge she spotted the maalraas below, clinging to an outcropping in the cliffside beside the crevice and growling angrily as it tried to find it's way inside. Izel clicked with satisfaction. Her theory had been right, now was her chance to catch the hunter unawares.

Without her weapon she'd need to rely on the Force to bring down the beast. Briefly looking around she spotted a large, rotting tree half-hanging off the side of the cliff, likely to be dead in a few years. The Padawan figured with a little encouragement it could fall right on her pursuer. Izel reached out with the Force, grasping the tree and starting to tear out it's roots, trying to move it so it was directly above the maalraas.

But Force fatigue hit the young Jedi suddenly and harshly, and with a gasp she lost her grip on the tree. It fell, but hit the rock at the wrong angle and spun out of the way, missing her target. The maalraas looked up, spotting the Vratix and releasing another deadly growl before it began climbing up the clifface towards her at an alarming rate.

"Your refusal to die is inconveniencing me immensely..." Izel murmured miserably before turning and making a run for it back into the jungle. She had a good head start on the maalraas but that wouldn't last long with her injuries. She was becoming exhausted, she had to finish this quickly if she wanted to survive.

Things were starting to get out of hand, even for the Jedi Master. He had managed to plunge the beast into the lake, but all of the energy expended in the cave and the injury to his right arm had left him in a weakened state, and he knew that he was pushing himself along the brink of what was capable even for him. We don't have time to worry about that, we can rest later. He would attempt to call on the force as he saw the hound pull itself to the top of the water.

But, calling upon it left him empty, and the beast pushed away the weak attempt and began to slowly emerge from the water. Oren fell to his knees as he took a deep breath, feeling the mixture of sweat and the lake water running down his face as he began to look around for something that could help him out of this situation. Without the force and his lightsaber, he was truly going to be tested, and with his body broken down, things were getting out of hand. Stay strong..

Think! Think! The words rung in Izel's mind as she dashed through the jungle, desperately trying to come up with a new strategy. She was unarmed, and too exhausted to use the Force. If the maalraas cloaked itself again she'd have to rely entirely on her regular senses to spot it. The odds were certainly against her.

Then suddenly it hit her, and the Padawan cursed herself for not thinking of it sooner. She was fighting the beast on it's own terms. Down on the ground the maalraas was in it's element, it had every advantage on her. But the trees belonged to her. With a powerful jump the Vratix launched herself up onto one of the thick tree trunks, latching on with her hook-claws and scaling it like it was no trouble at all.

She crawled up onto a supportive branch and peered down, antennae twitching as she looked for any sign of the hunter. It had cloaked again, but she saw it, sudden claw marks digging into the bark as it tried to climb up after her. "You're in my territory now..." The insectoid clicked under her breath, her confidence returning quickly.

Standing up she leapt gracefully to the branch of another nearby tree, moving up higher in the process. After making a smooth landing and latching onto her new perch she turned and looked back at the other tree, taking a moment to reacquire her pursuer. "Try to keep up..." She boasted, and then proceeded to lead the beast on a chase. Only this time she was completely in control.

The maalraas relentlessly climbed after her, and the Vratix led it higher and higher up the tree trunks, all the way up into the canopy above. Eventually she found a branch that suited her needs, shaking it with her weight a little to make sure her plan would work. Once she was satisfied it would she moved out to the edge of the branch and waited patiently. As expected the maalraas was still eagerly coming after her, unaware of the danger it was in.

Izel followed the encroaching claw marks with her eyes. The maalraas scaled the tree she was on slowly, finally stepping onto the same branch she occupied and slowly creeping forward. The Padawan didn't move a muscle. She only watched with intense focus. The beast seemed confident in it's victory, for it uncloaked, and Izel could see the maalraas clearly as it inched ever closer to her, mouth watering in anticipation of it's meal.

Finally it was close enough, the beast pounced. Izel swung under the branch and scurried along the bottom of it's surface back to the trunk. The maalraas landed on the edge of the branch, confused as it looked back. Izel climbed back to the top of the branch and looked the beast in the eyes as she placed her legs against the branch and began to apply pressure. "Goodbye!" She bade the creature cheerily, and kicked with all her strength. The beast bounded back towards her, but was too slow. The branch gave way. And it, and the maalraas, fell, disappearing in the thick foliage. Izel heard crashing and roaring, and knew the beast was finished. She sighed with relief and took a moment to rest on what remained of the branch. This still wasn't over. She had to find Master Oren and complete their mission. But she couldn't help but savor this small victory.

Oren could see a beast coming towards him, as the four paws kicked through the water. Wasting little time, Oren would move to pick up a large lock that sat floating a bit adrift along the shore, it was old and probably wouldn't last, but it was better than the alternative. Quickly he'd bring up the soaking log into a defensive position, and would hopefully get a strike off on the beast.

But, it seemed such a thing was not likely as the beast came soaring through the air, much faster than Oren had anticipated and with his own movements not aided by the force came across as sluggish--with his right arm burning from the previous slash. He would bring the stick up attempting to jam it in the mouth, but it broke instantly, and a large set of claws cut through the man's lower torso slicing open his shirt and the flesh on his abdomen.

He'd fly back in pain as he saw the beast snarling, but the pain in his stomach was too hurt and he knew that the stitches he had recently gotten removed had been torn open again. His hands would grip his stomach as he pulled himself up, limping towards the large trees in the jungle, tossing himself underneath one, and pulling himself under. He took a deep breath, as he saw the beast's eyes looking under the tree towards him. There was nothing the master could do, without the force and with a critical injury he was pretty much stuck. There is peace.

/Oren isn't dead, but his wounds are pretty bad, making him unable to fight for the rest of the thread. If you can't save him, and get hurt yourself, we will have the thread /end and we will have them pass out and wake-up and do a survival thread.

The Padawan rested against the trunk of the tree, looking out over the tree tops of the jungle as she tried to catch her breath after the long struggle with the maalraas. She was tempted to let herself just drift off to sleep after all that, but forced herself to get up. This was no time for celebration, not yet.

Making her way back down to the jungle floor she resumed her search for the missing Jedi Master, tracing her way back to the ravine. She tried reaching out with the Force to find Oren, but found herself only getting a headache for her trouble. Her powers were still spent for the time being it seemed. "I should at least try to retrieve my weapon while I'm here..." She thought aloud, and descended back into the chasm.

She called out to Oren as she made her way down the familiar path, hoping he would hear her. Instead she attracted the attention of the maalraas alpha, who quickly abandoned the Master that was out of his reach to pursue this new target. The Padawan continued the search for her vibro-pike, unaware of the impending danger.

It was only by sheer chance that the tired Vratix paused to bend over and drink from the stream running through the ravine, an action which inadvertently allowed her to dodge an incoming attack from the cloaked alpha. The beast pounced, leaping right over Izel and landing in the water. The Padawan gasped and scrambled backwards, quickly turning to run rather than face this clearly superior opponent. The chase commenced at once.

Nobody told me they get that big! The terrified Padawan thought as she ran, leaping up onto the cliff wall and just barely avoiding another attack from the alpha. How in the world am I meant to fight that? The alpha leapt up after her, trying to scale the cliff wall as she had. But it landed on uneven ground and tumbled down to the ground again, growling in pain and giving Izel a bit of a lead.

Once again the Padawan scrambled to think of a plan. The beast was much too large for her to take down on an even field even if she recovered her vibro-pike. She had to outsmart it like she had the last maalraas. She frantically began scanning the walls of the ravine, looking for any sign of unstable rock. The alpha was gaining on her, but the Padawan spotted what she was searching for, and area where a mess of loose stones and boulders were precariously stacked atop each other, perhaps from a previous mudslide or something similar.

She glanced behind her, seeing the alpha quickly closing the gap. Without hesitation Izel leapt down to the ground and crossed through the stream, leading the maalraas straight to the uneven stones. She jumped up again and landed on the rock, swaying uneasily for a moment as she found her balance, a few loose pebbles tumbling downwards. She looked back once more, and gasped, jumping away again right as the alpha took a swipe at her. She scaled the wall as quickly as she could, pebbles and increasingly large rocks giving way and tumbling down from her movements. The maalraas tried to follow, but was much heavier and causing more of a disturbance. It was clear the whole pile was about to collapse.

Izel barely made it up in time to jump up to the ledge at the top of the ravine, grabbing on and looking down as all the rocks beneath her came apart and rolled downwards. The alpha roared in fury and tried to jump out of the way, but quickly found itself battered by the falling rocks and left half-buried at the bottom of the ravine. Izel remained where she was for a few moments, antennae twitching tentatively as she watched the beast. It was still, but appeared to be breathing very faintly. Knocked out but not dead yet. It was unclear if the beast would survive.

Can't worry about that right now... Izel thought as she hoisted herself up onto the ravine ledge. Need to find Master Oren... Although I loathe to think of what might have happened had he ran into that thing... The Vratix continued on her stumbling path through the jungle, aimless, exhausted and weaponless. It was in the hands of the Force what would happen next...

Oren could feel the beast depart from the area, leaving him alone with his thoughts and the pain of his stomach. His body felt broken and tired, and it seemed another mission hadn't gone quite as intended. Seems about as run of the mill as usual, he scoffed to himself as he felt the blood trinlkling from his right arm and his stomach, which had soaked his once cream colored tunic. He was kicking himself over not bringing a vibrosword like he had lost his vibrosword on his descent down into the cave.

He hoped that Izel was managing, and that the young student was okay, but he wasn't able to know for sure. The force had escaped his call for the time being and he didn't dare to try and summon up the courage to call upon it again. Regardless, laying under the tree roots would do little to help the problem, and he needed medical help as soon as he could. Well, if we die..then we die..

His teeth would clench as he strained himself out of the crawl space he had buried himself into, his stomach burning with pain as he brought himself onto a terrible limping step, but would quickly fall to his knees with a deep breath. Well, this isn't looking good. He couldn't really walk at this point and crawling would get him no where, so he slumped down against a tree, simply waiting to see whatever fate the force had planned for him.
