Ask- FormerSlaves in Arms

@Herrith Hendarsin has been issued with a liberation mission of a VIP on Zygerria by the former Count/Senator of Serenno, his wife and child were sold into slavery after the fall of the planet during the war and he has tracked them down to the slave markets on Zygerria of the Zygerrian Slavers Guild… After appealing to the Jedi and receiving no aid due to his limited power of the Sith controlled world, The Senator has turned to bounty hunters and others outside the law and offered a substantial sum for the safe return of his family.

In need of help from those daring enough to attack a slaving capital and powerhouse, the infamous pink smuggler Herrith Hendarsin tasked by the former Senator to gather the needed help is hiring on the planet of Axxila to put together a strike team to recover the Senators lost family and to deal a crippling blow to the Zygerrian’s slaving operations.

OOC: It is encouraged that the characters volunteering for this thread have links to slavery either personally or have had family experience slavery in the past. This is not crucial but it would make more sense to have ties.

Herrith entered a small cantina on the seedier part of town and breathed in the familiar scent of alcohol and spice. If there was one thing she missed from Zeltros, it was that there was no short supply of those two things. She stepped past a Twi'lek waitress with scars on her back from what she presumed was punishment, completely disgusted as she scanned the large part of the room. Only a couple people stood out to her, and none of them seemed ready to jump straight into a suicide mission. None but one.

A wookiee.

The Zeltron approached and sat down in the seat across from-well, it, seeing as she had no gender markers-and smiled, ordering a Reactor Core before speaking.
"You look like you've taken a couple hits. I got a job. The reward's quite nice and I'll split it with you. Interested?"

She watched as her drink arrived and waited till the waitress stepped away before taking a sip and waiting for the wookiee to speak. She understood the language plenty. Outer Rim life will do that to you. Herrith just hoped he wasn't in a bad mood and ripped her arms off. She didn't have the money for prosthetics.

Gaarbecca was sitting at a table towards the back he wasn't interested in watching the band but merely relaxing which was something he was getting used to, especially with the aromas around the cantina the spice and incense clearing his head. He was in the process of cleaning his bowcaster currently seeing as he was waiting for his drink, the serving lady returned almost immediately, shaking whilst looking over her shoulder towards the bartender before laying the drink on the table before scurrying off after receiving the payment to serve another customer he supposed all people had heard stories based on Wookiees in combat or enraged and he was in neither state so struggled to understand why they feared him. He merely sighed putting his weapon down before sipping at the 'Wookiee Wango', why couldn't other species make alcoholic beverages? he lamented as he drank, the sweetness making him wince slightly Gaarbecca was unwilling to try and find another fearing he might get angry unnecessarily.
He noticed a familiar species from his time on Nar Shaddaa, pink coloured skin something no space faring traveler would forget... Seeing this female approach took him back to that accursed moon, bad memories flooding back... He was drawn out of the innermost thoughts of his mind to the Zeltron sitting across from him. Braver than most and certainly everyone else in this place, he would listen to the small ones words...

"You look like you've taken a couple hits. I got a job. The reward's quite nice and I'll split it with you. Interested?"
he looked at her with mild amusement it had been a while since one had jested with him much less directed one at him.

"Gaarbecca has fought in fighting pits and on the surface of Kashyyyk for over 90 years... What is the job?, know that I don't kill for sport or to enslave people and I'd suggest leaving if you do..." Gaarbecca spoke adopting a more threatening tone he wanted to be clear he wouldn't be a part of something which had blighted his people and millions of lives across the galaxy.

The wookiee spoke in a threatening tone and Herrith bared her teeth in a pained smile. She took a sip from her drink and spoke.
"It's...actually quite the opposite. Do I look like a slaver or something? Is it the hair?"

She glanced at other bargoers, pegging some as obvious slavers or bounty hunters, people to avoid later on. The Zeltron made it a note to get the job done and get the hell out to avoid any problems.

"No you have the look of someone who has been subjected to chains" Gaarbecca spoke solemnly, it took a slave to know the fake confidence one displayed or by the way one would carry themselves, some habits died hard and the painful reminders often stuck for those who 'knew' to see.

"Your unusually coloured hair is not a slaving trait to my limited knowledge of the Galaxy unless Hutts hide exotic wigs... Your proposal interests Gaarbecca and I would hear more of the job, Gaarbecca would know the name of his new comrade"

Gaarbecca could feel in his heart that the little pink Zeltron had a worthwhile mission though it wouldn't make him jump right into the situation, he wouldn't be tricked by anyone in to doing anything not after Nar Shaddaa... five years lost. Never again...

"No you have the look of someone who has been subjected to chains."

Herrith winced only slightly, adjusting her position in her chair and shrugging slightly.

She tipped her head in a nod and replied.
"I was, uh, joking. Do Wookiees have humor? Anyways, name's Herrith. Job's about freeing some slaves. And explosions. Don't forget those."

The Zeltron downed what remained of her Reactor Core, setting down the empty cup.

Gaarbecca figured he was correct if Herrith's reaction was any indicator to go by, he listened as the small especially by his size Zeltron explained the job briefly, Gaarbecca took a sip of the Wookiee Wango not wanting to drink anymore than was necessary to converse clearly.

"Freeing slaves? that will be a tough fight, slaves are always well guarded... how many slaves are to be freed? Herrith will not undertake this task alone. The ancestors would be ashamed of Gaarbecca if he refused this call, Gaarbecca will assist you. Where you go Gaarbecca will follow" Gaarbecca finished softly, he was intrigued. Not many even former slaves would risk taking up arms against slavers, failure would result in at best a quick death or re-enslavement... though he wouldn't surrender, death was better than servitude that has not been earnt. He tipped his head slightly reaffirming that he was on-board before finishing the Wookiee Wango, an involuntary shudder coming from the sweetness of the drink which also caused a small string of curses to be uttered quietly... If he was to return from this mission he would definitely invest in refreshments which were appealing.

Herrith nodded. Good. He was in.
"Two. Wife and child. Senator kind. VIP. Zygerrian slavers took 'em and I-we've been tasked to take them back. For a good credit count, that is."

She cracked a smile and scratched the scar on her head.
"And we can free more if we get the chance."

"Freeing more would be better but not at the chance of returning to chains, when you are ready to leave we can go" Gaarbecca finished his drink before examining his trusted bowcaster, he was prepared to take more lives. Slavers weren't people to worry or mourn their deaths... The galaxy was better off without them along with the Trandoshans.

Herrith nodded to the Wookiee and stood up, pushing in her chair with a grin. These weren't the Hutts, they treated their slaves far better in her opinion, but slavers were slavers.

"Let's get going, then. Zygerrian market."

She walked outside, a quick pace creating a path through the crowd.

The duo made their way to the spaceport where Herrith's ship was housed. upon looking at the exterior, Gaarbecca was hesitant to board the ship whilst it was still stationary let alone in hyperspace, scorch marks littered the hull with dents that needed to be buffed out or plates replacing. This ship looked like it had been through a war and an asteroid field.

"You fly in that...?" Gaarbecca asked with a worried undertone, it looked like a weathered bucket filled with rusted bolts, the ship being held together by sheer willpower and primary systems that ran on auxiliary circuits, the pink Zeltron even braver than he originally thought. His optimism did not improve as his theory about the ships internal systems being as weathered as it's outward appearance held true. It annoyed him seeing it all in bad condition, some of the problems he had identified could be repaired or tweaked without additional parts but other areas would require funds.

"May the force and the Great Wroshyr Tree be with us" Gaarbecca murmured before sitting in the co pilot's seat, hoping not to die in the coldness of space.

The Zeltron didn't mind the Wookiee complaining about her ship. Hell, she complained about it too. Not to mention the random airlock malfunctions. Oh, and the drive miscalculations. Those were fun too. At least it hadn't fallen apart. Except for the floor panels caving in that one time. Fun day.

She started up the engines as 'Gaarbecca' settled into the copilot's seat, and smiled as the hull groaned before the ship lifted off.
"Stop complainin' she flies. When she feels like it."

Herrith soon sent them into orbit and plotted a course for Zygerria.

"Gaarbecca will look into some of the ships minor malfunctions and fix them if you have any tools on board, Gaarbecca wants to know what made you take up this job?"

Gaarbecca titled his head to the side and lent down to prevent him from smacking his head on the roof of the cabin, eager to hear the answer. Surely it wasn't just for the credits, he hoped there was more to Herrith than that... though from what he'd learnt from other species, they didn't have the same codes as Wookiees did. He figured this employer must really miss his family if he was willing to pay the large sum of money for their return...

Perhaps he saw the negative in people especially humans. Perhaps the pink one would surprise him no one lied to a Wookiee, it tended to get messy quite quickly if they were found to be deceivers or tricksters.

Herrith shrugged. Repairs are always nice. She cleared her throat and pulled a bottle of whiskey from under her seat, taking a sip before replying. The ship jumped to hyperspace.

"Sure. Repair kit's right there on the dash. And I took this job like everyone else would. Credits and fun."

The Zeltron smiled slightly and continued drinking, ignoring the fact that the Wookiee probably wouldn't believe her.

"You are a terrible liar my friend, I will return after I have looked at the engine this ship's hull seems to take a beating while travelling through hyperspace, it would lead to other problems though I'm unfamiliar with the ships designs. I shall comm when I am done ensuring it is still operational" Gaarbecca retrieved the toolkit looking for the hydro spanner before moving towards the engine compartment in the ship, problems always stemmed there...

Herrith nodded as the Wookiee vanished into the ship. She trusted it enough. After all, slaves stuck together. Except her. She was a loner.

The Zeltron took another swig from her whiskey and sighed.

Gaarbecca was working with ancient computers and exposed wiring but he was getting close *Sparks* "AWWWRAWWWHHRR" well nearly close... the conduits were as close to being fine tuned as he could without being outside the ship to see if the sub light vents had conformed to the changes inputted into the control panel, with a more fluid flow of energy to the system it would enable a smoother ignition to the drivers hoping to prevent what had just caused sparks to reign all around his face and into his fur from happening and causing a fire, Herrith was extremely lucky that this ship hadn't burst into flames.

He removed himself from the interior of the ship before returning the panels he had moved back into their places, the job had only needed to distract him for a few minutes but had taken the best part of two hours with tidying the wires and eliminating the flaws in the current ignition and primary engine systems, though there wasn't much he could do about the fuel cell... that was something the little pink one would have to deal with.

He returned to the cockpit after cleaning himself with a rag which was now stained with oil and leaked fluid.

"I have done all I can, how close till we arrive on Zygerria?" Gaarbecca asked taking a seat relaxing somewhat, this was one of the most stressful times performing maintenance on a ship he had encountered. He put his hands behind his head leaning back into the chair.

Herrith turned her head as the Wookiee returned and shrugged, delivering a soiid kick to the navicomp before tipping her head in a nod.

"Almost there. Few more minutes."

Or so she hoped.

Gaarbecca was readying his bowcaster for the coming fight, one could quite clearly see a fight was going to occur you didn't need the force to feel it. The feeling was one of anticipation, as if he were about to go on a hunt... Slavers or the creatures on the forest floor it did not matter. The quiet chilling sense of death, the difference between fighters and 'normal' people was that fighters embraced the numbness and prepared themselves for the inevitable even death whilst those others were controlled by their fears.

"Do you fear death?" Gaarbecca asked Herrith as they dropped out of hyperspace, one could see how busy the slaving system was with a manner of different makes and sizes. He growled deeply in distaste before returning his attention back to the little Zeltron. He did not fear death, he feared chains...

"Do you fear death?"

Herrith turned her head as the ship landed. An odd question, surely, but questions were questions. She stayed silent till they exited the ship.

"Not anymore," was all she said as they wandered into the streets of Zygerria.
