Brin leaned wearily on the Toydarian mechanics desk with one hand, the other rubbed the bridge of his nose slowly as he pressed his eyes closed...
"Yesterday it was 1200 credits...and the hyderdrive would be fixed in two days. Now you're saying you need 150 extra credits and it will take two days longer?"
The Toydarian fluttered across the desk and over to a small drinks trolley in the corner of his office.
"I don't do the repairs myself boy, I trust what my team says down in the pen, and they are telling me they need more parts, and the work takes longer, ok?"
Brin massaged his eyes and sighed heavily... "So...now I have no hyperdrive, for at least another 48 hours, the oxygen recycler is still running at 25% capacity, the dorsal quadlaser has..." Brin quickly pulled a datapad from a pocket in the side of his trousers and scrolled the screen down... "...only 2 lasers functioning...so its technically a duo-laser...if you will? I have no long range comms because my emitter array is sat in 8 pieces on the floor of your workshop and the lighting panel in the cockpit is currently stuck on bright green. I paid you 2000 credits nearly a week ago, and more after that to get things fixed. If I were so inclined, my good sir, I would infer that you were taking me for ride, on a particularly odorous bantha."
The Toydarian maintained his mocking smirk as he sipped from a small gilt cup. He came to rest in a reclined chair behind the desk and shrugged apathetically at Brin.
"Look boy...it takes as long as it takes, alright? No amount of complaining is gonna change how fast my team works, yeah? And think about it...who else you gonna go to on this station? I'm the only one with the parts to fix your ship remember?" The mechanic gave a throaty laugh and waved a hand towards the office door... "We'll call you when you we're done boy, ok?"
Brin fought down his anger and forced a polite smile onto his face, even as he flexed his hands in frustration.
"Yeah I hear you...boy...I guess I'll go enjoy the delights of the station while I wait then..."
And with that, Brin stormed out of the repair bay office and back onto the small circular, two decked promenade of the space station.
The station itself had plenty of room on its docking ring for vessels, but the facilities and space within were limited. A few shops, a cantina, a courier and transport office and the depressingly inefficient repair yard were all that seemed to grace the commercial hub of the station.
Brin decided to return to the Eclipse, and make do with what little comfort he had on board. Even in the central lounge hub, there were meters of cabling hanging from open hatches in the deckhead and panels missing on the bulkheads. He had stationed K-T at the bottom of the ramp, in the hope that he might drum up some business, and get off the station with a little cash, slightly quicker than currently planned. He tossed his jacket over the holotable and collapsed down into one of the sofas.
He continued to rub his temples as he lay on the threadbare cushions... "Please gods, let me get off this station..."
