I was under the impression he was already dead.

I guess my only concern is what this means for attempts to normalize our relationship with Cuba. The Great Tangerine (Trump) said he was against doing so (would link source, but on phone). My guess though is we go back to shunning Cuba, because apparently in the minds of El Trumpo and most Republicans, the Cold War is still goin' strong.

Agreed @Gamov.
That man was a tyrant, but he leaves a big power vacuum and an uncertain future - hopefully a brighter one.

Sigh... Unfortunately with Trump, my people are going to close their walls once again, and there will be no visiting ;-;
Also, brighter future? Probably not. He's got a brother who's just as bad.

He was definitely a tyrant, however people often forget he was influential in the fall of apartheid South Africa & defended Angola from it's imperialism.

-By helping to impose a corrupt 'communist' dictatorship on the country, friendly to his regime.

Though I will say, as communists go, Fidel was pretty tight.
And yet he has mostly been friendly to many African leaders(such as Nelson Mandela who appreciated his help), and was a stern oppose to colonialist. I'm also pretty sure he supported Thomas Sankara, and Patrice Lumumba, two iconic African leaders.

Was he a terrible dictator? Yes. He has a list of human right abuses that are terrible; there are people that he supported that had terrible human right issues in their country(The Kim family in North Korea for instance); and he ordered the executions of a host of people, while also making many Cubans move to the USA and other prts of the region. Nevertheless, as you say, among communists, "Fidel was pretty tight."

I can only be happy that the monster is finally dead. He didn't deserve to live as long as he did. That murderer made Cuba a backwater, 2nd world country that, if I must say, is perhaps the ultimate representation of where communism leads.

I just hope we come to our senses, and shoot his brother between the eyes, and install a democracy.

Eh, he was better than Batista aside from the whole nearly starting WW3 bit.

I really rather would like we just resume the embargo and leave the country be. Let that mess sort itself out on its own.

I mean really, how many really 'developed' Latin American countries are there? Argentina, maybe? Chile? If anything I'm rather impressed Cuba has fared as well as it has.
