DESCRIPTION
The Mon Calamari Shipyards were a Dac-based manufacturer of numerous space transports and warships. Over four thousand years old by the time of the Galactic Civil War, the shipyards were renowned for their elegant, streamlined ship designs, characterized by bespoke production, unique engineering, and a sculpted, organic hullform. Though originally focused on exploration vessels and luxury liners, Mon Calamari designs emphasized powerful defenses. The FC-79 was one design put into place to serve as an escort Corvette for fleet operations.The FD-79 LongFin was also known as the Quarren Corvette due to it’s design (and totally not that the Quarren species are the ones who designed and built the craft). The small capital ship could pack a punch with several laser turrets and two medium turbolasers. It is fast for a ship of it’s size and can carry twenty-five hundred tons of cargo. It’s docking bay was designed to allow for a single gunship, starfighter, or airspeeder and another in it’s internal hanger. One FD-79 was with the Rebel Fleet after the Battle of Hoth. It was en-route to the icy planet at the time of the Imperial attack and joined the fleet still full of the supplies it was to deliver to the base.
This 165 meter craft is a well rounded design for protecting convoys or smaller fleets, with a good mix of turbolasers, torpedoes, and laser cannons. It is also able to keep up with many other craft of its size or larger, ensuring almost anything it is protecting will not outrun it. The size, the cost, and just how well it is at its job has made this craft still relatively popular, even though the design is quite old. Many production runs have introduced updates to the craft throughout the years, ensuring the new craft off the docks are still up to date.
