WAVESTRIDER FAMILY HOME
ANDARA
CORE WORLDS

Oh how the tables had turned, this time Kyi was the one waiting for everyone else to arrive. Finally granting himself some downtime, he wanted to return home and celebrate Life Day with his family. Aurelie was on her way back from an investigation that was too 'confidential' to tell him, while the twins were on their way back from their own assignments from the Jedi Order.

The ageing Jedi wasn't as good at cooking as his wife was but... he wasn't completely hopeless. With Exdee 'helping' (really, he was just stood on the counter and watching him), the freckled Knight spent most of the day preparing dinner. As Kyi waited for his family to arrive and for the dinner to cook, the Jedi took the brief moments of piece to recollect on his life and think about all the friends and loved ones he had made and lost on the way to this very moment.

Overall, he felt grateful and content. While Jedha had fell and Grandmaster Breaux had died in that same battle twenty years ago, which he still thought about every day and relented on how he couldn't be there to help - he also realised he couldn't have asked for anything better in his life. He was married to the woman he loved, had two amazing children that were destined for greatness and was doing his part in helping to rebuild the Jedi Order.

As he waited, a large grin formed on his face when he thought that if time had stopped at this very moment, he wouldn't have changed anything that led up to this point in his life.

Determined and steady footsteps could be heard outside, boots hitting the snowy planks of the terrace by the entrance. Out of his three family members, it was rather clear who it was as it clearly wasn't the silent steps of the former thief nor the carefree steps of Mael. Kora wasn't alone, however, as metallic footsteps could also be heard clonking down against the wooden floor - Scrappy had never been very good at going unnoticed, and this time was no different. The droid spoke, his voice somewhat muffled as it came from behind the door "Master Kora, I once again have to object. This is limiting my functionality" he said emphatically. He was met with an understanding voice "I know, I know, but at this point, it's tradition. You have to wear it!"

The keys entered the door which opened shortly after, letting in a flood of cold air as the daughter and the combat droid stepped into the cabin. The droid quickly walked into the building, leaving the young woman behind as she took off her coat, revealing a well trained body clad in a red sweater.

"Greetings Master Kyi" it said with outstretched arms, just as instructed. The droid was clad in the same shirt that he had worn during that fateful winter day so many years ago. Just as their hug was over, or whatever way Kyi decided to greet the droid in, his daughter would appear. She smiled at him with a hint of pride "Mission successful dad" she said with arms crossed leaning against the doorway. A smile spread across her freckled face as her mother's blue eyes met his. Pushing herself off of the beam, Kora took a couple of quick strides forth to hug her father.

Whilst the father and daughter were talking back in the cabin, Aurelie had parked the ship a bit farther away from their home than usual. Her 'mission' for the day had been to retrieve Nomi and Kesh. The three had a rather lovely relation, if she could say so herself. Mael, her father, would always have a place in her heart but now, she practically treated the two elders like her own parents. The three gave each other a few knowing smiles as they left the ship. Making sure to take one of the darker routes, the three sneaked up to the front porch of the house. With Aurelie and Nomi standing next to each other and Kesh behind them with a hand on the women's shoulders, they prepared. Nomi knocked on the door and just as they'd prepared, the three began to sing a Life Day carol.

Maybe it was foolish to try to surprise a Jedi in this way. It was only natural for him to realise who they were - but Aurelie was never one to give up easily, and the Wavestriders always seemed glad to play along with her little games. Her eyes slowly went down to the text on the front door "Wavestrider" and her heart was immediately filled with joy. Feeling the elder woman next to her and Kesh's hand on her shoulder, anticipating to see her children and her husband, and knowing that she was one of them - it was perfect.

While in the middle of a friendly debate with Exdee, Kyi felt a familiar presence - the presence of Kora. Excitement filled his heart as he shot up from his chair, turning around to hear the keys unlock the door and his good friend Scrappy, the security droid entering first. The droid greeted him with his arms outstretched, without even hesitating he entered a hug with the droid before managing to view Kora, confidently, leaning against the cabin's doorway and claiming that she succeeded in her mission. With a huge grin, Kyi pulled away from the droid before rushing over to hug his blue-eyed daughter tightly, "Glad to hear it. I missed you, Kora." he said in response to his daughter. Exdee excitedly beeped and greeted his old friend, Scrappy, and nuzzled Kora's leg.

For a while, the father and daughter engaged in animated conversation before they both sensed three familiar presences, Kyi and Kora would then go on to exchange looks -
"I sense mom...but is that...?" but with a smile, her father interjected "It's grandma and grandpa." he said excitedly "Your mother was always the sneaky one." he added, but he meant it in the most positive way. The father and daughter grinned at each other, they'd play at Aurelie's game, the two approached the door and opened it to see Aurelie and his parents singing a Life Day carol. Placing his arm around Kora's shoulder, the two could only smile on as they listened to the carol.

When they finished, Kyi and Kora made way for the three to enter the cabin. The freckled Jedi greeted his wife with a hug and a kiss on the lips
"Thank you, honey. This was a great surprise." he said softly, before turning his attention to his parents who were showering their granddaughter with kisses and hugs. The ageing Knight only joined in on the love as he hugged his parents before moving onto Kora once again, and after that was finished, Kyi affectionately held his wife's waist and wrapped an arm around Kora's shoulder before turning his head to look around the room. As he laughed to himself and shook his head "Of course Mael's late."

Meanwhile, outside, Mael, the freckled Padawan was wrapped in his cloak and was trekking through the snow that surrounded his childhood cabin. As he sensed the familiar presences of his mother, father, sister and grandparents (which was a surprise, probably his mom's doing) - he cursed at himself for being the last one home again this year, although he knew one thing for sure, he couldn't wait to have his entire family under one roof again. Finally approaching the entrance to his childhood home, Mael lazily used the Force to open the door.

Mael entered the cabin with his arm's outstretched and the same goofy grin which he shared with both his father and grandfather.
"Sup family! The best twin has returned." he exclaimed in jest, shooting off a wink to his blue-eyed younger sister which resulted in an eye roll and a smile from her. Mael was immediately met with an onslaught of hugs from each member of his family after he had announced his presence.

Now the Wavestriders were finally all together again. Finally.

Once their Life Day carol was sung to completion, it all turned into one big hug-fest where all parties went forth to show their affection to the others. While Aurelie had no qualms of acting generously and letting the elders get their time with their son and grandchild, she was quick to steal a quick hug from Kora before surrendering her to the two elders. She looked at her husband fondly after the kiss as she stood in his arms "I thought we needed a complete Life Day this year" she said with a happy sparkle in her eye before throwing a glance at the grandparents "And they certainly did too. It was a team effort." Nomi caught the woman's glance and sent her a maternal smile that warmed Aurelie's heart. It also made her realise that it was soon time for a switch as the two elders turned their attention to Kyi.

With that, the investigator turned her attention to her daughter. With a quick step, swooshing past her in-laws, Aurelie soon arrived in front of Kora and gave her a loving hug whilst letting her arms brush against the girl's back. "You've been staying safe, right?" she asked with her head hanging over the slightly taller woman's shoulder "Mom..." Kora said - she knew the drill by now. "You know I worry about you, right?" "You know that I'm careful. It's Mael you should worry about" The daughter released the hug and looked right into her mother's eyes as she talked. Knowing that the best way to escape the unwanted concern was to push it over to her brother. It worked just as she had expected as Aurelie looked around "Where is your brother?" upon which she was only responded to with an innocent shrug.

A soft smile formed on the former thief's lips as she felt her husband wrap his arm around her. Content, she leaned her head against his shoulder as her body brushed up against his. The confidence he had in their son simply being late made her feel more at ease - more confident that he was indeed alright. She still hadn't really figured out how the force worked but figured that the people she loved would let her know if something was ever awry.

Finally, the door swooshed open with Mael entering right as it did. He remained happily careless in his mannerisms, as was often the case. While Kyi's hold on her waist wasn't very firm, Aurelie contently waited until he let go before rushing forth to hug her son along with the two grandparents. For a moment, she wondered if there was room enough around him for Kora and Kyi to get in - but they were family, there were always a some room somewhere. Once the group hug was over, Aurelie hugged her son alone before letting go to look up at him. He shared so many features with his father all those years ago, she raised her hands and affectionately placed them at the sides of his face "I've missed you" she said and received the same in response "Your sister said I should be worried about you" she continued, causing the boy to look at Kora "Hey!" he said accusingly, just as if he just got pranked before turning to look down on his mother and putting both hands around her shoulders "We're alright, mom. We look out for each other, and if nothing else, there's dad" he said, obviously having practiced dealing with his mother in the past. Apparently finding it too hard to resist, Kora chimed in teasingly "But mostly, I look after you" "Oh yeah? Like that time on the Granateg?" he countered, bringing a smile to his mother's face. They seemed to be just as happy and lively as ever. And through the years, she had learned that that was all that mattered.

Eventually, Aurelie walked back to her husband and slipped back into his arm. With one hand moving up and down along his back, she looked up to him "And what have you been up to then?"

Kyi was very much pleased to see Mael home safe and sound - although the Force was with him and he was more than capable, Mael's tendency for recklessness was somewhat worse than his own when he was the boy's age which worried him slightly, but he did have faith that Kora would keep him safe and in check. Aurelie tended to worry about the three of them heading into danger so frequently, so the freckled Knight decided to stay back with Kora and his parents, and let Aurelie get some one-on-one time with him, he smiled to himself half-suspecting she needed reassurance that he was staying safe.

The ageing Knight crossed his arms and used his left arm to stroke his dark beard as he watched Kora and her grandparents engage in conversation. "So, dearie. Tell us how you've been! We've missed you and your brother terribly!" Nomi asked excitedly, poking her granddaughter's bicep gently, before answering, the orange XD-unit proceeded to jump on Kora's back and beep enthusiastically in his classic fashion. Kora laughed "Alright, Exdee. I'll tell grandma and grandpa about the time you, Mael and I were on Sullust." she said while patting the droid over her shoulder "This should be good." Kesh uttered with a drink in his hand and his other hand in his pockets. As Kora told the story, Kyi couldn't help but watch his daughter's features and be increasingly reminded of Aurelie back when they had first met - she really was the spitting image of her mother, blue eyes and all.

Kora finished recounting her story and had managed to overhear something her brother had said, which led her to give out a snarky remark in response to him from across the room. Aurie and Mael had finished their one-on-one time and the Wavestrider family converged once more, his beautiful wife returned and fell back into his arm. He rested his head on hers as she asked him what he had been up to -
"Oh...just the same old, same old." he replied as to not put any more worry onto his wife, "Mainly, I've been keeping an eye on the kids and making sure they were safe." who was he kidding, Mael and Kora weren't kids anymore - they were young, yes, but they were no longer children and it showed in their growing independence and their increasing strength in the Force. Honestly, Kyi was proud of the two, they had progressed at a rate much faster than he did when he was their age.

Turning back to the blue-eyed investigator and focusing all of his attention on her, as he wrapped both arms around her and rotated his body to meet hers. He locked his brown and red cybernetic eye with hers, the freckled Knight smiled and asked
"What have you been up to? Any interesting stories for dinner?" which reminded him, after Aurelie would answer his question, he'd have to go on and check dinner.

It was all very endearing, their time together. Aurelie felt like the family kept getting fewer opportunities to meet as the kids grew older and occupied themselves with missions, or in Mael's case: Parties, joyrides and perhaps some missions. It was good to hear her husband repeat what he had said so many times before. It felt stable and secure. A soft smile formed on her face as the two stood there, watching the children and their grandparents reconnect.

Any thief worthy of the name knew when the person right at their side looked at them, especially for a longer period of time. Waiting for one second, and then another, Aurelie felt his other arm wrap around her shoulder. His warm touch was welcome after she had just arrived from outside. Just as they had turned to face each other, with him looking deep into her eyes, the former thief leaned forth and hugged him. The few seconds they spent close in each other's arms were wonderful, just as it always had for the past twenty years. He already knew that she missed him too, but she would say it regardless upon releasing the hug and returning to the previous position.

The others were moving further into the cabin when he asked the question, leaving the two of them to walk behind their loved ones. "Well, I picked up Nomi and Kesh." she said as the two slowly walked into the building. The aroma was there as soon as she stepped inside the door, and it was only getting stronger - the wife inhaled deeply. Whatever Kyi was making, all signs pointed at it being good. After letting out a satisfied "mhmm" she returned to his question "I think we finally convinced the used speeder salesman who keeps bothering the grans that they really aren't interested." she said rather plainly, but soon, a mischievous grin appeared on her lips. "I'm sure Kesh will tell you all about it at dinner"

Everything was going rather smoothly - while the elders weren't too used to visiting the cabin, they certainly knew their way around a kitchen and kept a good eye on the food whilst Kora made the table. It was impressive, how many plates the girl could balance on a single arm at once, even causing her mother to wonder if she was 'cheating' or not. Those thoughts wouldn't linger for long, however, as she started looking around for where her son was. "So, you said you were keeping an eye on our kids, right?" she asked jokingly and finished "So, where's Mael?"

Kyi nodded along and listened intently as his wife explained what she had been up to and updated him on the bothersome speeder salesman that had been hounding his parents for weeks now. The freckled Knight grinned mischievously and stroked his dark brown beard "Oh yeah?" he asked, chuckling slightly and wondered if it involved the blue eyed investigator's renowned silver tongue "Dad always loved telling his stories." he added.

As the two entered further inside the cabin, Kyi removed his arm that was wrapped around Aurelie and began making his way to the kitchen to join Kesh and Nomi - although, he was stopped in his tracks when Aurelie began to speak again. He turned his head to make eye contact with her as she teasingly questioned him on Mael's whereabouts. She was right, where was Mael? After all, his son was not one for subtlety, so him slipping away unnoticed was completely out of character for the freckled Padawan. He couldn't have gotten far though as Kyi could still sense Mael's presence in the cabin - however, Kyi played along with his wife and responded in a witty manner
"Hey, I'm off-duty right now. Besides, he's your son too." he laughed. Kyi turned to Kora, who had finished off setting up the table, and his parents, who were handling things in the kitchen - "Mom, Dad, Kora. Can you watch dinner while me and Mom look for Mael." he asked, Kyi always referred to Aurie as 'Mom' when speaking to the kids just like his parents did with him when he was growing up.

With a
"Sure, Dad." from Kora and an affirming nod and smile from his parents, Kyi and Aurelie made their way through the cabin - which has been expanded in the last twenty years, to make space for Mael and Kora growing up - to look for their 'missing' son. A few moments into their search, Kyi laced his fingers with Aurelie's and let out a content sigh. "I missed you, you know." he said, turning his head to look at her, it was nice to get a brief moment of alone time with her, Kyi then moved onto what he would say next "So, in your expert opinion. Where do you think our son could have gone?" he asked while shaking his head.

Looking at her husband with an amused smile and a cocked eyebrow. She raised a finger and wiggled it from side to side "nu-uh, I kept an eye on my daughter, she's right here. The question is where your son is." she said, maintaining a lighthearted tone and a playful smile. Kora let out and audible sigh whilst gently letting her hand meet her forehead upon which her mother simply shrugged innocently.

Embarking on the search for their son, Aurelie felt safe in the knowledge that the three remaining Wavestriders would keep a good eye on the food. While not overly difficult, it was still important as failure in tending to it could ultimately end in a number of different culinary misfortunes, none of which were of much interest to anyone.

"I missed you, you know" her head turned and she looked upon him affectionately, letting her eyes linger for both one and two moments, "And I you" she said, flashing a momentary smile before leaning in to give him a peck on the cheek.

Leaning her head to the side, the investigator thought about where her son could have gone "First guess: The garage. His old swoop is still in there." she said, pointing their hands to the direction of where she thought he was. The couple started walking slowly when the wife suddenly stopped and turned to the man she loved. "Why rely on my guesswork when you could use the force?" she asked and continued trying to sound like how she imagined an old master would sound, even assuming a core world accent "Use the force, Kyi Wavestrider. Feel it ebb and flow around you and things. Close your eyes. Close your eyes and feel the room around you, hear the cutlery scramble back in the kitchen and the leaves brushing against each other in the wind. Now, reach out." her acting was still on point, at least according to the former thief herself.

If the Knight had indeed closed his eyes, he would see a his wife standing right in front of him with a happy smile when he opened them again. "Well, did it work?" she asked enthusiastically - almost sounding as if she believed that it would.

Kyi's face lit up and he let out a toothy grin as Aurelie kissed his cheek - receiving a kiss from his beloved would never get old and he would always feel the same feelings he felt twenty years ago whenever she did grace him with one. Kyi noticed as his wife leaned her head to the side, mind working out potential locations their son could be, before finally revealing that her first guess was in the garage with Mael most likely working on his old swoop. The bearded Jedi motioned his head in an affirmative nod to her guess.

The Jedi's eyebrow would raise as she continued, Aurelie questioned why he didn't use the Force to locate Mael. Kyi responded with a simple shrug and a smirk "Well, that's no fun is it?" chuckling in his reply to Aurelie. The freckled Knight's face then shifted into confusion as Aurelie's accent abruptly switched into a calm Core World accent before he finally realised what she was doing - shaking his head at her, Kyi smiled and closed his eyes, obeying the comedian that was his wife's directions in order to humour her. Focusing on her words intently, he did indeed reach out with the Force before eventually sensing the presences of all of his family in the cabin... before finally sensing Mael's.

Opening his eyes, Kyi saw the sight of his wife coupled with her beautiful smile, standing in front of him and questioning if it actually worked.
"You were right." he said, folding his arms, "I can sense him in the garage.". Motioning for the blue-eyed investigator to follow, Kyi led his wife toward the garage - entering through a metallic door that slid open automatically, revealed the contents of the garage. Inside was the 'family landspeeder', a workbench for Kyi and the twins to tweak their lightsabers from time to time, equipment scattered around that could be used on various forms of technology, and then finally, Mael... who was doing exactly what Aurelie guessed he was doing. "Wow, thanks for reminding me why being an investigator is your livelihood." he jested with a lighthearted tone, his wife never ceased to surprise him with her investigative hunches alone.

Not seeming to notice or sense the presence of his parents in the room with him, Mael was completely focused on modifying his swoop bike, lying on his back under his bike, Mael was using some of the garage's tools on the swoop. Mael only realised his parents were there upon hearing Kyi clear his throat, Kyi's affirming voice startled the freckled Padawan slightly which caused him to flinch and hit his forehead on his bike. The bearded Knight stifled a laugh as he heard the clanging sound of bone connecting to metal and Mael inhaling air through his gritted teeth. Emerging from under his swoop, Mael stood up and rubbed his head with his left hand and placed his right on the seat of his bike
"Hey Mom and Dad...ow. Was just making some modifications on Ayara..." he stated, failing to hide the pain in his voice.

A victorious smile spread across the face of Aurelie Wavestrider as her husband confirmed that Mael was indeed in the garage. Chuckling, she came along, wrapping her right arm around his left one as they walked. For some reason, the former thief was rather fond of the 'garage smell' - it did, after all, bring back many good memories of Kyi and the kids working away, but most of all of Mael from his younger days before the Jedi. Her eyes begun scanning the room from the opposite side of where she expected her son to be, just to check if anything had changed. A few tools missing from the shelf, but everything else was normal.

Leaning her head to the side, she thought for a moment before shaking it "nu-uh" she sounded. Firmly specialised in catching thieves, home intruders and the like, guessing where Mael could be was rather far from what she normally did. Of course, the husband already knew this and he probably did have a point. Still, smiling cheekily, Aurelie spoke "This is all part of being a mother" she said whilst walking deeper into the room. Gently, the investigator let the palm of her hand touch with her forehead as she tilted her head down. Should one cry or laugh at Mael's apparent unawareness of his surroundings? For Aurelie and probably Kyi too, having a good idea of what was happening in one's immediate vicinity was of utmost importance, second nature even. Still, they were in their family home - the mother was hardly going to blame her son for relaxing and returning to his old habits.

Taking a few rapid steps, Aurelie leaned in towards her son's head. Doing so was no easy effort considering how tall Mael had grown. Putting her left arm on his shoulder and standing up on her toes, the investigator investigated if her son had hurt himself for real. Naturally, the young Jedi was fine, at worst, he'd get a bruise. "What do you say about continuing your work on Ayara after dinner?" she asked, looking up at him as he was now standing normally. With some hesitation, Mael finally agreed "Sure" with a somewhat unwilling tone. Clearly wanting to keep working on the swoop. Still, the three would go back to the others together.

It seemed as if Kora and the grandparents had finished most of the things that needed finishing as dinner was all but ready, only requiring a few last steps. After giving her daughter a hug, Aurelie proceeded to help with the last steps of preparing the food. She was impressed by how good it all smelled and looked, feeling how her mouth watered as she worked. "I think you've outdone yourself" she said, looking to Kyi with a smile. Now, it was only a matter of moments before they could all be gathered around the table. It was fulfilling to see everyone there - often times, someone was too busy to attend. Maybe Kyi or one of the kids were on a mission, often together. Maybe Nomi or Kesh just caught a bad cold. Maybe Aurelie herself was stuck at work. But not this time. This time, they were all gathered and it certainly added something special to it all.
