DESCRIPTION
The EK4 stevedore droid is a labor automata manufactured by the Ferroprol Corporation. One of the company's more popular offerings, this model is mainly used in starports and aboard large cargo haulers, where they are employed to move freight and undertake other forms of demanding physical labor. EK4s are simple droids, roughly humanoid in form with long, dangling limbs. Sturdy in their construction, they have a heavy gauge durasteel casing, and though they are not armored, they are known to be able to take a surprising amount of punishment. EK4s have a single large, square photoreceptor integrated into their upper torso which doubles as a spotlight, and as a laser scanner for checking and editing the identity bands printed on many cargo containers. There are also a pair of audio receptors, a reader socket for accessing datacards and a standard I/O socket for network interface and/or system diagnostics.
EK4 stevedore droids, as their name implies, are primarily optimized for loading and unloading cargo from starships, although they have proven adaptable enough for many other tasks. In general, however, these droids are not especially intelligent; like all droids they will develop extra skills and personality if not subjected to memory wipes for long periods, but they are not as sharp or talkative as astromechs or other, more sophisticated models. Although they are equipped with simple vocabulators, EK4s tend to reply with only "affirmative" or "negative" in response to most questions and orders.
