DT-02 "Double Tap" Carbine

Description:

The DT-02 blaster rifle utilizes a revolutionary advance in Imperial Blaster Technology, with a firing system that triggers the firing mechanism upon pulling the trigger, one time as it is pulled, and once it's released. If one were to pull and hold the trigger, only one shot would ring off, until the trigger was released. The firing mode does not cross the threshold into automatic, because it puts to use the second half of the trigger pull to follow up with a second shot.

With this unique firing system comes a few downsides. The first is that it can be fired too quickly if the user is a trained combat marksman, he can overload the circuits and cause a non-explosive malfunction that causes the weapon to shut off. The next is the possibility to warp the barrel. As a user pulls and releases the trigger, two bolts are firing independently of each other upon the pull and the release of the trigger, and as such has no firing rate mitigation inherent within the weapon system. It is up to the user not to overheat or shoot too quickly for the firing mechanism. The barrel of the rifle will begin to warp, and shots will begin to drop, after six shots, or three full trigger pulls, if done in rapid succession.

The weapon has several configurations, including a shortened barrel, for Naval or Urban conflict, a longer barrel, for precision shooting, stockless, with a pistol grip for an urban carbine-style combat weapon, and it comes with a collapsible bipod, and bayonet lug. The weapon's recoil in the Binary Fire Mode, or BFM, the acronym coined during testing, is relatively light, as a result of the robust design of the rifle. Still a hefty weapon, the rifle can be fired accurately from any Imperial Legionnaire, or otherwise trained soldier worth his or her salt.

Intent: Who needs a reason for a WWII gun in Star Wars? Really, though, I got inspiration for this rifle while watching the above linked video on the Franklin Armory Binary Firing System. I figured it to be a good evolutionary and experimental step forward for blasters in this timeline. With this new tech comes it's pros and cons, as listed above.

If I'm understanding this correctly, the only real difference between this weapon and any other given blaster is that it has an unorthodox firing mode (as well as the drawbacks that come with it)? I just want to make sure I'm clear on this before I go further

This essentially is an end-run around the no burst fire mode. Denied
