DESCRIPTION
Droidekas, also known as Destroyer Droids or simply Destroyers, are heavily armed combat automata originally developed by the Colicoid Creation Nest in the decades prior to the Clone Wars. A popular model, it served before the war in various corporate armies, including that of the Trade Federation. When the Clone Wars began, Droidekas were incorporated into the ranks of the Separatist Droid Army. They were feared as sentries and heavy assault units.

Droidekas are well designed machines, meant primarily as sentry units, although they are surprisingly mobile. Essentially a walking turret, Droidekas are equipped with 2 dual light blaster cannons of the type usually mounted to small vehicles, and stand on 3 legs, which enable them to traverse themselves or shuffle forward and backward. For extra mobility, Droidekas can fold themselves into a wheel shape, allowing them to roll at high speeds and deploy wherever they are needed. Though they cannot utilize their weapons while traveling in this manner, the rapid appearance of Droidekas in a given location can prove a nasty surprise.

Notably, and perhaps most dangerously, Droidekas can deploy a personal energy shield which can deflect all but heavy blaster fire. This shield is only effective against energy weapons, however, and can be penetrated by grenades and other solid munitions. During the Clone Wars, standard tactics for destroying Droidekas was to roll a concussion grenade or droid popper between the Destroyer's legs. This shield also cannot be used while the droid is in wheel form.

At the end of the war, a shutdown command was issued to all elements of the Separatist military, with most Droidekas being deactivated and subsequently seized by the newly formed Galactic Empire. Large numbers of captured Droidekas were scrapped, with the remainder being expended as aggressor units in military training exercises, or simply languishing in storage. Many of those not seized by the Empire ended up on the black market, or remained active in the hands of Separatist holdouts which had for whatever reason not heeded the shutdown command.

Although they were a major component of the CIS droid army, Droidekas in working condition are exceptionally rare in the present day. With heavy combat droids having been firmly banned under the Empire, and highly regulated under the New Republic, droid armies like those used during the Clone Wars essentially no longer exist. Droidekas, although highly desirable on the black market, are extremely difficult to get hold of. They can still be found, however, generally in the hands of small planetary militias, mercenary groups and criminals.

LEGALITY
Illegal. Heavy combat droids such as the Droideka are highly restricted under interstellar law, with personal ownership being banned. Special licenses for guard use by corporations and other groups may be granted under certain circumstances.

INTENT
To create a standard archaic heavy battle droid model.

RESTRICTIONS
A Droideka is an exceptionally rare and expensive piece of equipment, with individual ownership being difficult in the present day, although not impossible. Individual characters cannot own Droidekas, with only factions having access to them.
