Fiach’s smile broadened. She was entirely pragmatic, but had a sprinkling of optimism thrown in. She believed that if you put your mind to something, you weren’t guaranteed success, but you were far more likely to achieve your ambition. “When will and imagination are in conflict, imagination invariably wins,” she recited. “It’s an old saying on Klatooine. If you believe in something, it’s likely to happen. The same if you believe you can’t do something. It doesn’t matter how hard you try, you’ll invariably fail. The Jedi have a variation – ‘Do or do not, there is no try.’ In simple terms, it comes down to belief. That’s what I was taught when I first joined the Order. Trust in the Force. It’s a maxim I live my life by.” And with that, she picked up pace a little more and through a combination of the Force and brute force, she continued to shift a lot of the rubbish from around the ship’s engines.

“So, is freedom at the core of what it means to be a Matukai? Freedom to forge your own path? Even if that leads to the Dark-side?”

Jago grunted as he delivered a hard front kick to a particularly stubborn piece of junk. It tumbled down the pile and was picked up swiftly by one of the worker droids. He thought for a moment on Fiach's observation about the Matukai philosophy, then smiled as he hefted another piece of junk.

"Ah well that's the thing about the Darkness isn't it. It seeks to subjugate, take freedom away, make the user it's slave. So I would say any that turn to the Darkside, never truly believed in the Matukai way yeah? The only way to truly be free is in the guidance and aid of the light in our eyes." He grunted as he chucked another piece of debris aside, the final thruster coming into finally coming into view.

"Not to say Matukai have never fallen, but they quickly abandon our way in favor of seeking greater power, and in my opinion, losing their freedom. I do like this 'do or do not' idea however. Though I think their is a saying that may sum up the Matukai ideal, 'Martial arts are about being fit and healthy, both physically and psychologically.' I've always thought of it as the discipline and focus needed to truly master martial arts, puts the mind at ease and helps to aid the spirit in a way"

Fiach listened as she continued to press onward with the clear-up. Talking Jedi philosophy was something she really enjoyed and so to hear about a related but different way of life was equally exciting for the young Knight.

“It is interesting – and quite right – to differentiate between Matukai and non-Matukai. The Jedi title has been diluted over the years – what with Dark Jedi and Grey Jedi – as if it were some spectrum of belief. To my mind, you either follow the Code or you don’t. If not, you’re simply not a Jedi. A Force-user, yes, but I could never imagine referring to someone as a Light Sith, could you?”

She paused as she thought some more on the subject. “And you’re right, the Dark side is seductive and slowly draws you down a path few can return from. Any notion that someone is still in control is nonsense. Ultimately it will consume the individual. That much is clear.”

She paused again, to shift a wedged piece of durasteel that was proving particularly stubborn. Finally it came out like a cork from a bottle and she nearly lost her balance.

“Phew,” she shared, “that was harder than it looked. As far as my experience of martial arts – and I’ve learned parts of a few, is the philosophy that is common. It takes time to master them. And the faster you try to go, the slower the progress. Put in the hours and remain diligent and success will surely follow. Rushing anything tends to lead to poor results. Like this exercise. We do it properly and we reap the rewards, yes?”

Jago happily listened to Fiach's reply, so far this had turned out to be rather pleasant talk. He was getting a workout for his mind as well as his body and to Jago that was possibly the perfect day. Well besides the hungry giant rats. Jago braced his back on the hull of ship and planted his feet against another large piece of scrap. The droids waited to receive the junk of metal down below and Jago pushed his legs forward with all his might. The metal groaned in protest, but after a moment it fell free to the waiting droids. Jago caught himself as he began to fall with the piece and pulled himself back up to the hull of the ship.

"I couldn't agree more yeah? Take the time, do things the proper way and success is a guarantee. At least that's been my experience." He smiled broadly at the Jedi then thought a moment himself. "I can't blame anybody who sees a force user and just thinks Jedi, hell I've even been called one a few times." He chuckled at the notion. "Though I think I'm a little rough around the edges for that yeah?" Jago would offer Fiach a playful wink. "I think it's easy for us force users to forget how rare a breed we are yeah? We tend to stick to our kind in our own little bubbles. In my travels I've met those who've never even heard of the force or any of the orders that use it. Just seems strange to me that such a minority of the galaxy so often decide the fate of it yeah?" A shrug would follow and he'd go back to moving scrap from the top of the ship. They were close to finished at this point, like Fiach said, they would soon be reaping the rewards of their effort here.

They were rapidly coming to the end of their work. The rats were, interestingly, the turning point. Once they’d been dealt with, they were making quick progress and they would no doubt be finished in a few hours – if that.

In a sense she would be disappointed. It was always interesting to speak to someone with a different viewpoint and background and she’d enjoyed Jago’s company as a result.

“I can see what you mean,” she said, as she lifted a large piece of scrap with the Force and gently lowered it for the droids to take care of. “I spend so much time around Jedi that I suspect I think they’re common – when in fact we’re not. And as for other Force users, I am not the sort that believes there is only one way. Our paths may be different, but we arrive at the same destination – so where is the harm in that. Even Jedi differ, so why not embrace other philosophies that view the Force slightly differently. It is fear of what is different that causes so much strife in the galaxy – in my opinion at least.”

“But as for deciding the fate of the galaxy, I’m less sure. We play a part of course, but we could never achieve alone what we are collectively capable of. And that’s not being modest, just pragmatic. It’s easy to be a hero when you’ve the Force as an ally. Other folk that put their lives on the line – they should get more credit in my opinion.”

Another smile came to Jago's lips as Fiach spoke of the regular folk of the galaxy. "Regular folk deserve all the credit in the galaxy, getting by day to day with out the aid of the force. Though I guess not everybody is facing down pirates or nasty rats everyday yeah?" The Matukai chuckled and tossed a few smaller pieces down to the ground. The engines were almost completely out in the open now and Jago wiped his hands on his tunic and smiled over at Fiach.

"So I've got to say this has been fun Fiach. I'm curious though if all Jedi have your knack for talking philosophy yeah?" he hopped off the top of the vessel and landed in a roll. He looked back up at the ship and smiled. Yeah a couple hours should see the ship uncovered completely and ready to become space worthy again.

Fiach nodded. It seemed she and Jago were on the same wavelength on so many matters. In a very real sense, more so than many Jedi she’d encountered. But, she figured, they were all on the same side and so variances were minor in the scheme of things.

“We’re almost there,” she said, as now every piece of junk removed exposed more of the thrusters. “Time for a final push.”

“As for being philosophical, I never see it that way. For me, it is about learning and that is never done with a closed mind. Sharing what we know – and more importantly what we believe we know is vital. Then we ca n hear what others have to say and either re-evaluate our thoughts, or have them confirmed.”

She looked at the ship. In an hour or so, they’d be finished and therefore be one step closer to tackling the Sith.

This woman just kept on giving Jago reasons to smile. As she talked about open mindedness, Jago's thoughts went to a possible thought of the future. A future where his order and the Jedi could continue to work together openly like this. Two organizations dedicated to the light that aimed to help any in need and protect those who couldn't protect themselves.

"I'd have to say that's a really good way to look at things. In my I've learned that just taking a moment to listen to what others have to say yeah? I honestly appreciate you're company Fiach. Think other Jedi would get along so well with a Matukai?" He smiled and grunted as he let another piece of trash fall down to the droids below. He kept a steady pace with Fiach and she was right, this was probably about to be a job well done. The droids down below started sweep the area around the ship now, the beginnings of a proper clearing that would allow room to work on the ship at a later time.

Fiach surveyed the last significant piece of debris to be removed. From this point on, it would be a case of droids clearing up the small bits of wreckage in much the same way they cleaned the inside of ships.

As she manually lifted the sheet of durasteel and manoeuvred it over to the area that had once been flat, but was now a small hill – she thought on what Jago said.

“I think any true Jedi would get along with you just fine. Is that me pre-judging what a true Jedi is?” She cocked her head to one side. “Possibly…probably.” She nodded now. “But I do believe that an open-minded Jedi would embrace your philosophies. Maybe not agree 100%, but that’s OK too. But see so much in common that we can work alongside each other seamlessly.”

She looked back at the ship. “Oh, I missed a bit. If you take care of that last piece, I believe we can call this a job finished.”

Jago nodded, happy to hear that Fiach believed that most Jedi would probably see eye to eye with Matukai beliefs. That was all he could really ask for in end, and if anything the day had proven that there was more common ground than he thought possible.

Jago simply smiled, the last piece she mentioned was on the far side on top of the ship, Jago easily made his way back up. He simply climbed up the rear thrusters via a path he'd used for most of the day. It wasn't large and Jago easily lifted it and decided to have a bit of fun with the final piece. He let the light flow through him and enhance his strength and he spun several times and threw the piece like a discus to land with a crash in the refuse pile. He chuckled and shrugged down at Fiach, it was a bit frivolous a use of the force but he had fun.

He hopped back down and met with Fiach to look over their work. The thrusters and rear of the ship were fully uncovered and the droids were nearly down with their final clean up of the area. The Matukai turned to Fiach and held out his hand. "Well I'd say that's a good days work yeah? It's been more than a pleasure Fiach and I gotta say I can't wait to have another chat. Though maybe next time we skip the hard labor and just enjoy some tea yeah?" He finished with another of his beaming smiles. "I say we head back and tell Kori the good news yeah?"

“Agreed,” Fiach responded, her familiar smile in place. Her robes were somewhat grubby, but given they were the spoils of an honest-day’s hard graft, she knew she could be forgiven for meeting a fellow Jedi in such a state.

“A good job well-done. We’ll have this ship up and running in no time at all.”
