EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The Dianoga-class assault starfighter is a heavy starfighter originally produced by Koensayr Manufacturing. A sturdy design with a heavy armament for its day, if somewhat bulky, it was popular with mercenaries in the decades prior to the Clone Wars, though its popularity waned and it was discontinued after more or less superior designs flooded the market as war surplus.

The Dianoga is a quad-foil design, with a central cockpit and an armament consisting of 4 light laser cannons and a single, under-slung heavy ion cannon, extremely useful for disabling enemy vessels, although its slow rate of fire make it ineffective against most vessels smaller than a light freighter. It has a stock top speed of 90 MGLT, and is equipped with a class 2 hyperdrive, giving it excellent range for its day. It lacks any kind of deflector screen, unfortunately, although its hull is relatively durable and can take a few hits.

Dianogas are rare machines in the present; discontinuation and time have made good replacement parts scarce, and thus merely maintaining such an old craft is difficult, far beyond the means of most of the mercenaries and pirates who flew the type during its heyday. Some exist in museums and private collections, and they can occasionally be found in service with the elderly, more sentimental species of pirates and hired guns.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Dianogas are starfighters, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To add an antique starfighter from Legends to our site's fanon.
