The typical Jedi Initiate's day begins early, before there is sunlight. Kavin Kalist's starts two hours before the first Initiate rises, his internal clock more precise than any alarm. His pre-morning ritual consists of a meditation session, to sharpen the mind and awaken the conscious, followed immediately by a short, yet intense, workout consisting chiefly of sit-ups, push-ups and pull-ups. By the time he has broken his first sweat, his day is ready to begin. He dressed in the usual attire of an Initiate; a tan tunic with dark brown pants and a simple leather belt.
Every lesson there was to teach an Initiate had already been taught to Kavin, and as such he found his classes became more... Flexible. Around the time that other members of his clan were receiving their masters, Kavin became the assistant to Caretaker Noa, which essentially turned him into a glorified errand boy. Though this did give him the fortune of having near-free reign of the Great Temple, Kavin quickly found his time spent less on meditation and politics than on delivering messages or tending to the younger Trainees.
After his pre-morning ritual, he found his way to Caretaker Noa and was quickly given a list of tasks he had for the day, not one amongst them either stimulating or constructive. Still, Kavin gladly accepted his duties and went about them. The entire morning was spent delivering messages from Knights to Masters, waiting for responses, delivering holocrons or training lightsabers, and, in one exciting incidence, breaking up a fight between two Initiates before the Caretaker managed to notice it.
It was nearly noon before Kavin was free to continue his studies, and after spending all day inside he longed for some fresh air. He collected his meal and headed outside, a short trek soon finding him in a secluded spot not too far away from the Temple. It was a nice landscape; a single, massive tree protruded from an area with fine, green grass and many differing sizes of squat, flat rocks. The tree's massive foliage extended like hands over the area, presenting an area of shade with a few tricklings of sunlight escaping through the leaves. There was a clean aroma in the area, and the chirps of insects and the calls of birds could be heard. This was Kavin's favorite place on Ossus.
He sat upon a decent sized rock and crossed his legs. Before he was to eat, he was have another meditation session. It would be the third of the day, making Kavin more than halfway finished with the required five meditation sessions a day. On his own standard, however, this would complete only a third of his usual sessions a day. This particular session, however, was dedicated not to the Jedi Code or the many fallen Jedi or self-control, but was rather dedicated to the most prominent question on Kavin's mind.
Was he ever going to be a Jedi Knight?
Kavin was the last member of his clan on Ossus, every other Initiate already having graduated to Padawan status. He rarely saw his brothers, who he had grown up with and learned by, but these moments were bittersweet. He knew that as they parted, his brothers were off on missions, risking life and limb to uphold the ideals of the Jedi, and he was stuck on Ossus, where there was neither glory or satisfaction. But such thoughts were unbecoming of a Jedi, and rather than feed into them, he sought the wisdom to overcome them.
And so Kavin found himself meditating beneath the tree, where he, like so many before him, pondered his future.
