DESCRIPTION​

The DF.9 medium laser emplacement is a small, dual-purpose anti-vehicle and anti-infantry artillery piece manufactured by Golan Arms, commonly used as a component of fixed defensive works. Standing 4 meters in height, the DF.9 consists of a semi-conical armored hull, topped with a rotating turret capable of traversing a 180 degree arc. The turret mounts a medium laser cannon, which is linked to a precision targeting computer and has a range of approximately 4 kilometers. Power for the cannon and integrated systems is provided by an external power coupling, intended to be hooked up to a field generator or the main reactor of a base. The DF.9 is operated by a crew of 3, including a gunner, a spotter and a technician; the gunner normally sits in the turret, and is provided with a top hatch to look out of; the other 2 crew are located in the emplacement's hull, and can enter or exit through a side hatch. The DF.9's hull armor is sufficient to protect it from most small arms fire, though anti-tank and artillery weapons can generally penetrate.

First developed in the years after the Clone Wars, the DF.9 has been in use on various worlds and with various factions for several decades, with no signs of being retired any time soon. They are entirely modular, and though not self-propelled, they can be moved with the use of a suitable vehicle to transport them, although once they are in place they are not trivial to dislodge.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Being classified as field artillery, DF.9s are regarded as military equipment, and are thus generally restricted from civilian ownership on most civilized worlds.

RESTRICTIONS​

DF.9 medium laser emplacements are not to be used directly against characters in PvP engagements. They also may not be owned by individual characters, but can be acquired as a faction asset.
