History

Early Years

Devar was a native of Alderaan. He was born into an unremarkable lower middle-class family. He was an unfortunate accident for his parents as they had planned on having no children; he was their only child. However he was loved and they cared for him as best they could. Devar and his parents moved to Corellia when he was an infant so that his father could take a new job. Devar's father flew large Corellian freighters between the core worlds. He was only home once a week and on holidays. Devar's mother cared for her son most of the time when she wasn't fulfilling her obligations as a secretary of Corellian Engineering Corporation. Devar was smart but shy kid. He did well in school but was bullied often. The main culprit was a kid named Beltin. Beltin would do horrible things to Devar. He would lock him in e-lockers, steal his lunch credits, and even stick his head in refreshers. Devar would merely take what was given to him day in and day out.

Devar was always a curious child. He picked up books and holo-stories all of the time. In fact he was quite the information sponge. One of his favorite areas to explore was languages. By the time he was a teenage he had learned several. Although because of his introversion he kept this mostly to himself. Another subject that fascinated Devar was geography, especially as it related to other planets. He knew that he had been born an Alderaanian and when he was little he had seen holos of the planet. Devar longed to visit the beautiful world. He vowed that one day he would make it to the planet and gaze upon its snow capped peaks and rolling green valleys.

Devar, while not quite genius level, was brilliant. However he was a poor student. He didn't test well and had difficulty with some subjects. Despite his efforts he could not make it into any of the planet's universities. As a result Devar went straight into the work force when he was 18. He took a job as an assistant in the Frauds Division of Apatros Mining.

The Long Years

Devar did all of the big things in life. When he was twenty he met his wife, Marlene, and a year later they were married. Lack of money kept them from honeymooning on Alderaan. By the time Devar was 25 he has been promoted to assistant investigator in the Frauds Department and had two healthy sons. He was quite happy with his life but things began to stagnate a bit. He had always been quiet and non-confrontational and these traits didn't allow him advance like he should have been able to. Although Devar just typically "shut down" he things go too messy he always felt a part of him that told him to take charge. Almost as if there was a spark that just needed the right fuel.

By the time Devar reach the ripe age of thirty he had still not been promoted again. One beautiful day that didn't bother Devar too much. With a bonus he had recently received he had finally saved enough to take his family on a trip to Alderaan. When he got home from work early that day he surprised his family with tickets to the planet aboard a small passenger liner called the White Dwarf.

Ill Fated Vacation

With their Luggage in tow the Gorchev family boarded the White Dwarf. The ship was not a luxury liner but it was pretty luxurious compared to what the family was used to. The two cabins they had booked were small but well appointed. Devar and Marlene took one cabin and their two kids took the other. During the days it took to get to Alderaan Devar and his family explored the ship. There were tons of things to do. Devar tried his hand at Sabaac in the Casino and the kids enjoyed dejarik. Marlene of course spent her time browsing the stores.

When the White Dwarf landed on Alderaan the Gorchev's disembarked and made for their hotel on Aldera. They spent the next week seeing all they could possibly see on Alderaan. The family didn't get too far out of Aldera but there was more than enough site seeing. They toured museums, at galleries, and numerous other cultural sites. Devar loved the cultural sites and he loved the Alderaanian planetary zoo. But more than anything Devar loved the majestic snow capped spires that where the peaks of Alderaan's Triplehorn Mountains. But as all good things eventually do the week came to end. It was time for the Gorchevs to leave. None of them wanted to leave but they had no choice as they boarded the White Dwarf. As the White Dwarf orbited Alderaan before its departure Devar stood in one of the viewing lounges gazing out at the planet below. He had a lot on his mind. Devar's family had loved Alderaan and he was considering trying to find a way to move his family. Apatros mining had its corporate offices there but he would have to be promoted to an executive of some sort if he was going to have any chance of being transferred. That just wasn't going to happen.

It wasn't long before the White Dwarf was in hyperspace heading back to Corellia. The last night before they were to return Devar sat in the same lounge sipping on a Corellian whiskey. He stared out at the purple kaleidoscope of lightspeed. His family was in their staterooms reading for bed. Devar had told them he would be along soon, but he wanted to see the return to real space and the subsequent final jump. As the White Dwarf returned to real space the starlines turned to starts and in an instant the ship was rocked violently.

Devar was nearly thrown from his seat. Through the transperisteel Devar could see a Corellian Corvette with no markings. Pirates… it had to be. Klaxons began to blare and the captain's voice came over the speakers "All passengers return to your cabins immediately." Devar started to get up but another violent spasm rocked the ship throwing him back in his seat. Devar was eventually able to get up. He rushed aft to where his families staterooms were but he didn't make it. The doors to Devar's right exploded inward. Fragments caught him in the face and penetrated his flesh. Devar hit the ground and was knocked out cold.

Later Devar learned that the pirates had been unable to get the inner airlock open and of course he had been right next to the doors when they blasted it open. His family's cabins had been raided and they had been butchered mercilessly; a fate they shared with many of the other passengers. While Devar's family had lost their lives, all he had lost was an eye. At the time he didn't have the money for a cybernetic one so he simply wore a patch.

Career Change

Devar's family's murder was the spark that ignited the flame. It was as if a deep sleeping monster had been awoken. Devar vowed that he would get himself to Alderaan and maybe even find a way to destroy the pirates who were responsible for destroying everything he loved. When Devar finally got back to work it became evident something had changed in him. A man that suddenly had no ambition began quickly climbing the corporate ladder. Within two years he was heading the procurement department. Four years after that he was the chief operating officer.

Unfortunately Devar could not realize his full potential within Apatros Mining. The company had been family owned and operated for nearly 100 years. The company remained true to its honest traditions. In fact Apatros Mining was one of the few companies that didn't exploit local populations and catered to clientele who appreciated such morals. While the company was plenty profitable it just couldn't compete with the bigger companies and thus couldn’t expand. The original owners were happy with what they had, Devar wasn't. It took Devar a full two years to plan his coup but finally he was ready to take over.

Hostile Takeover

The first part of Devar's plan had been to get himself on the board and then to get the rest of the directors on his side. This was done by whatever means necessary. Of the six other directors Devar was able to persuade three of them to his side. Two of them he had to resort to blackmail. He knew what he had on them was enough for them to keep their mouths completely shut. The last director was the CEO and owner. The only way to take over the company was to have the owner removed. Needless to say Devar put a contract out on the man and he was dead within a week. With the Board on his side Devar was appointed CEO and he was able to slowly wrest the company from the grieving family.

During the next three years Devar grew Apatros Mining more than three fold. His "ends justify the means" tactics and Apatros's success brought Devar and his company to the attention of Czerka. Devar worked a deal with Czerka in which he would sell to Czerka in exchange for keeping his position and opportunities for advancement. Obviously Czerka didn't need to bargain but Czerka's CEO Baron Voren Makr recognized that Devar's skill would be useful to the company. A year later it was clear Makr had recognized Devar's particular talents as he had been promoted to Director of R&D and elected to the Board.
