DESCRIPTION
The Deliverer Class Lander was born as a concept for a small quick troop lander that could aggressively and safely deliver several squads of soldiers or light vehicles to where they were most needed on the battlefield. The Deliverer is much smaller and quicker (though still sluggish to handle) than many troop transports of the era, but manages to be heavily armored and moderately armed at the same time. Packing so many capabilities into such a small craft has its downsides though. The ship is very cramped, and the cockpit has no room for weapons controls, and so required dedicated gunners for each turret. The cluster of tightly packed systems also makes the ship vulnerable to cascading systems failures- once the shields go down and the armor starts burning off the chances of catastrophic systems failures begin increasing dramatically. The forward mounted weapons systems, while making the lander a capable gunship, also leave it vulnerable to enemy fighter screens out maneuvering it and attacking from the rear.It can deliver up to three full squads or two to four light vehicles per sortie. Troops typically disembark from the wide rear ramp, and this is the only egress point for vehicles. For ship-to-ship combat the Lander features an extendable docking tube which can latch on to enemy starships and cut its own hole to deliver boarders. It's flexibility owing to its mix of speed, armament, and durability have made the craft the most popular lander in the Republic Navy, despite its limited carrying capacity, and it was a common sight on many battlefields throughout the myriad wars of the preceding century.
