Hours of countless struggle, pain and darkness, it seemed the planet had tested them all. Oren and his companions had faced their darkest fears and passions within the cave systems in Ifrane, they saw the worst parts of themselves, and were confronted and forced to make a decision. Oren himself had battled with this reality, but came to understand his own failures as a Jedi, and the problems that he would have to make better if we wanted to become a better person and teacher. The group would then find themselves within the valley that lead towards the ancient temple, unknown to them that Max's group would cause the valley to roar of life, reviving the old systems of exploitation that destroyed this planet.

They had taken their lumps then, Xander had his legs crushed in the weight of it all, but Oren promised he would make sure all of his students made it free. He lost his saber and scorched his hands saving that boy, and when he had little to nothing left, he used everything he could to save Izel from a near death fall. His body was broken and sore and he had to do everything he could to keep himself up.

As the small band of his group walked into the Temple, they would feel a rush of light come through them, all of this struggle was for this. Oren would place Xander down, checking on the boy and his wounds. He was stable, but he wondered if the boy would be able to walk again. With a heavy sigh, he would look towards Izel with soft eyes, "I'm sorry for bringing you here..as your master, I should have expected this, yet I brought us here blindly and now you've all paid the price."

His eyes would shift at the sound of footsteps approaching from an opposite hall, he caught the glimpse of just Max alone, "Are you...the only one left?" His heart slightly dropped at the thought of the other two expiring within the elements, and it only left the Knight more confused and struggling with the consequences of bringing these students here.

As Izel entered the temple with Oren and felt the energy of the light side wash over her she let out a sigh of relief, and couldn't help but feel a strange sense of pride swelling within her. Despite everything she had managed to make it here, limping and suffering though she may be. She may have stumbled, and she may have needed help along the way, but she had found the strength to keep going in spite of all the obstacles in her path. And she felt that she was starting to understand why her master sent her to Ifrane with the others. She was realizing that if she wanted to be a true Jedi she would need to temper her hunger for knowledge with a calm and tactful mind. So when Oren began to apologize for bringing her here she did her best to conceal the pain she was still feeling and reassure him.

"For all that we've been through, it was still something that needed to be done." She said earnestly. "And... I am glad to have been a part of it. A true Jedi doesn't shy away from unexpected danger. They find a way to overcome it. I'm grateful Master. This has been a far better learning experience than walking through a peaceful field would have been." The Padawan tried to sound confident through her words, but she still whipped around quickly and raised her staff in a defensive posture when they heard footsteps approaching. When Master Tionson revealed himself she sighed again and lowered her weapon, looking a bit embarrassed. When Oren mentioned the possibility of Max being the only other surviving Jedi her expression filled with worry though, and her antennae twitched as she waited expectantly for the other Knight's answer.

Max honestly wasn't sure what he had been expecting when he made his way onwards. He had left Moza and Saul in the medbay healing from their injuries. Even with the bacta tanks they were going to carry their fair share of scars from their time here on this damned planet. Max himself wasn't exactly walking away unscathed but a sore ankle and a scarred right pointer finger was coming off very lightly compared to his allies.

Seeing the other team actually there at the meeting point, Max released a breath he honestly hadn't realized he had been holding. There was a palpable relief in seeing them there, in knowing that he wasn't going to be continuing on alone as he had worried he might be when he left his allies to their healing.

He raised his right hand in greeting as he approached.

"Oren."
he greeted his ally and friend with a tired smile before nodding to the other Jedi he didn't know by name, "You have no idea how glad I am that you're actually here. I feared I would have to continue alone."

Of course that sounded bad when paired with Oren's voiced fear.

"No, I'm just the only one fit to continue."
he assured Oren easily, "Saul and Moza were both wounded during our, abrupt, landing and the lava fields made it far worse. I've left them in a medbay healing as best they can from their wounds but I knew the mission was important so I came."

Oren would bow his head in humility towards the young student, she always had the kindest words for him, even in the middle of a hellish landscape of fire. He couldn't say anything at that moment, but instead focused on propping Xander against a small wall, his legs clearly crushed. He'd check his vitals with a soft sigh, he was going to make it.

"Oren."

The Knight would turn towards the direction of the voice, his lone eye narrowing softly as he peered towards Max. A wide smile would form on the near-humans face as he saw the fellow knight approach him. "You don't know how happy I am either." He'd say as he pulled himself up from his crouch, limping towards the man.

His heart nearly fell ill, but the Jedi would mention that the other two were simply tending to their injuries. "We suffered some injuries ourselves, I've lost my saber and badly burnt my hands," he'd say as he peered towards the torn and bruised flesh. "My ankle is messed up, but I can manage." He'd peer back towards the two students, "Xander's legs were crushed I'm afraid, I carried the boy all the way here..Padawan Izel was able to manage with a broken arm, but we survived and we're reunited."

He would peer towards the ancient site of the temple, a soft smile forming on his lips, "Thousands of years ago, this planet was home to countless Jedi of old.." He would limp into the dusty center of the circular room, feeling the lightside of the force still present in this room. "I wonder if there is anything here, that could aide our young small order..."

Well it sounded like he had somehow managed to come out of this looking fairly decent compared to some of the other Jedi who had been sent out on these missions and come out the other side worse off. Sounded bad even in his mind, sounded selfish even though he was genuinely worried for his allies.

And now here was Oren actually weaponless aside from the Force. Reaching down, Max unclipped his stun baton before handing it to Oren.

"Here."
he bade his friend to take it, "The Force is a powerful ally but that's no reason to step into danger without further precautions."

It was a non-lethal weapon as was to be expected of Max but it was more than Oren had a moment ago. Looking around the ancient temple site, Max felt how the Force pulsed and writhed around them. It was not a pleasant feeling, like looking at an open wound as it bled and doing nothing but watch how everything flexed and moved with the heartbeat.

Unsettling to say the least.

"I'm sure there is."
he agreed, running a hand along the wall idly, "If not then there will be once we cleanse the wounds left on the Force here. The pain felt by a planet as a whole... it's almost unimaginable."

Izel felt for their two injured comrades mentioned by Max, but was relieved that at the very least everyone had survived. She felt even more grateful that she was the one Padawan in the group to have managed to get out of this madness on two feet, or four rather. That small triumph made her feel a bit better after her failure in the cave and traversing the valley.

She followed the elder Knights silently, touching the wall of the temple and feeling the Force flowing through her. With the worst of their journey behind them she was able to let her more curious side take over again. Terrible though it may be, she was still fascinated by how the planet itself seemed to carry emotions with it, allowing her to feel every bit of suffering the world had experienced over the centuries. She looked at Max in bewilderment as he spoke.

"Is such a thing possible?" She asked. "To heal an entire planet? Even one as ravaged as Ifrane? Surely that's beyond the three of us... Even the whole Order?" She had seen the Force heal plants and animals. But a planet seemed completely out of the question. But then again, all things were possible through the Force. That's what she was taught anyway. She would very much like to see such a thing in practice.

Oren would take the stun baton, feeling the weight of it his charred palms, his face grimacing slightly as the cool metal rubbed against the raw exposed flesh. "T-thanks.." He'd say as he clipped the baton to his own belt. The dust seemed to fill the room around them, had they been the first people to step into this temple in over a thousand years? It was clear that the ancient Empire had tried to step foot within these halls, but had failed to do so.

The force was a wound here, the darkness they felt had lingering feelings of death and greed. "Countless governments destroyed this planet, in search of resources and the constant consumption of product. The lingering greed destroyed this planet and killed thousands in a day, that was the darkness that clung to the valley."

They would walk slowly towards a center room, in which he imaged had been a large commons area. A large door stood in front of them sealed away. He could feel the force radiating from around them, light and dark, clashing and battling. "Everything is possible in the force, planets are no different then men." He'd whisper as he made his way towards the door, feeling against it with the palm of his hand. "Men fall, but men can be redeemed. Remember Ben," it always seemed to come back to that point with Oren, "It may take generations for this planet to heal, but it can. You can think of life, the galaxy, the force, as a silent sound within a room--neutral. Our actions, our voice, serve as an echo that radiates through the space, and as more voices join slowly the rhythm of the space changes." He hoped the idea made sense to the student, "We do what we can, and slowly all these little things will build up over the years to make a difference."

He felt the door, something lingered behind it, but it seemed locked, as if it was resisting the nature of the energy in the room around them. His body ached, but, Max was correct. "We need to try and clear the darkside energy that lingers in this hall..I believe it will open this door." The idea started to connect, "That's why no one had been able to open it.."

It sounded ambitious when Izel put it like that but what else was there but miracles in the face of the Force? A Force Nexus could do things that made the whims and machinations of mortals feel like flapping wings against a hurricane and Ifrane held a Force Nexus powerful enough that even those without a sense for the Force could feel it.

Unfortunately in it's current state it tended to put people on edge or make them generally far more uneasy than they had any logical reason to be. As though there was something with a touch of malevolence watching over them.

"A Force Nexus can do Great things, Izel."
he informed the padawan with a sad smile, "It can make a planet vibrant and alive... and it can drain it of life and hope and leave it like the red sands of Korriban."

He tapped the wall with a knuckle.

"We need to reach the Nexus and we need to do what we can to purge it of the Dark Side. The Light and the Nexus will work miracles for this planet."
He took a deep breath and began to sink into the Force in his mind's eye, drawing and building upon the Light he felt within himself and still within the air around them, "The Dark Side bars our path so we must draw it out, like poison from a wound, and we must banish it."

His hand strayed to his lightsaber.

"It will likely react... poorly."

Izel listened intently as the two elder Jedi spoke of how Ifrane might be healed. It sounded absolutely astonishing to her what could be done through the Force. "So through sheer force of will alone we could alter the course of an entire planet's development, even if only a little at a time..." Then she began to wonder. If it could be done at all surely there was a way to do it more efficiently then what Oren had described. Perhaps with enough training a powerful Force user could alter the environment or creatures on a planet in real time. "Amazing..." She muttered quietly as she continued to think on it.

When they reached the door and the others spoke of drawing the darkside energy from it the Padawan began to grow nervous again, gripping her staff tightly in her hands. She wasn't eager to face another trial like in the cave. But at the same time she couldn't deny the small sense of excitement in her. Whatever was behind that door she wanted to see it. They had come this far after all, and with the help of Oren and Max she was more confident she'd be able to get through whatever the Force threw at them. "What do we need to do?" She asked curiously, ready to begin.

From just barely beyond field of vision, the dust began to shift and swirl. The hall was silent, but it wasn't the silence of the dead.

Rather, like that of bated breath, between sharp teeth.

A subtle breeze flowed through the room, fluttering at robes and tingling at the base of their necks. And if one were especially attuned, it would feel like ghostly fingers skittering down the base of their neck--

But if they turned, there would be nothing there. Just the deep darkness of the gloomy abandoned temple.

But then, down the hall, there was a noise. A high, keening wail, like a child screaming in terror, and the sound of light footsteps coming closer. It would patter closer and closer, and the screaming was joined by more, until the walls trembled with the sounds of so many regrets, fears, angers... those many restless dead that dragged against these walls. But just as quickly as the screaming began, it abruptly stopped.

And then It appeared.

A small, thin child-like figure, hunched over. They were dressed in the robes of a Padawan, bare feet filthy and hair matted. It let out another sob, arms wrapped around their stomach, small voice trembling.
"No, no, nonono, please no..."

From the shadows ahead of the group, if any paid attention to the door, another figure materialized. This one simply stood silently in their peripheral, also dressed in the brown robes of the Jedi. But there was something wrong...

There was no face. Only
a bone white mask... and a dark lightsaber hilt in its hand.

And in the air, there was a whisper of something, it almost hissed in revulsion as the words laced with icy hatred in the chilling air.

Pathetic Jedi...

A cool breeze swept through the halls of the temple, kissing against the back of the near-human's neck, it smelled of death and decay, but the whispers were sweet and sounded of velvet, he could feel the chill slowly tingle down his spine and towards his wounded hands. It was the markings of the darkside that beckoned them at that moment and as always the call was always there to tempt them. He would turn around to see nothing but the emptiness of the circular room.

"We have to face and confront the darkness," he would say in a soft voice, "Just like we did in the cave, but this time, we will do it together..the three of us."

He heard the sound of the child come running into the room, with a panted breath, his hair matted and his face gaunt and appeared to be twice the age of what they should have been. Did something occur here.. He thought to himself as his hand wavered over the stun baton that Max had given him.

His brown eyes would narrow, as he stepped forward, peering back towards the two of his friends and then towards the man, "Who are you?" He'd ask, as he dropped his long flowing robe to the ground. "Only a coward fights a child and boasts about it being pathetic..." His words were sharp and determined, but he didn't jump out to attack--there was still more they needed to know.

And finally the other shoe dropped.

Max closed his eyes completely as the wind ran through the hall. He ignored how it played along his skin as he reached down deeper and grasped the Light within himself in an iron grip. Opening his eyes barely a second later, he let out a slow and measured breath as he took in the scene before him.

The ragged, injured, Padawan.

The Old Enemy stalking it's prey.

He frowned and stepped forwards even as he reached out with the Force with his left hand. The padawan, the victim, lay between the Jedi and the figure that hunted them. With the Force he would gently but urgently move the Padawan to his left, clearing the young one from the dangerous area between the Jedi and the seemingly Dark figure ahead of them.

Without removing the Padawan from his sight either.

While Max's instincts screamed at him to protect the innocent, he had no true reason to believe that the padawan figure was, indeed, innocent. It had materialized in the same moment as the Dark figure. Potentially it was a representation of the dueling Light and Dark at work in the Nexus; the powerful and hungry Dark Side and the battered and exhausted Light.

So he instinctively moved to protect the padawan without further endangering himself and his allies. He didn't take his eyes off of the masked figure but he kept the padawan in his peripheral vision. And on top of that...

"Izel."
he called out as his right hand rested upon his lightsaber but he did not draw it, "Watch over the young one."

And watch the young one as well went unsaid.

A shiver ran down Izel's spine as the ghostly wind passed through the chamber, the Padawan quickly finding herself on edge with the palpable tension rising around them.

"We have to face and confront the darkness," She would hear Oren say. "Just like we did in the cave, but this time, we will do it together.. the three of us." Izel could only sigh as her memories were returned to the cave.

"Again?" She asked miserably. But her focus was returned to the present as the small Padawan and the dark masked figure appeared. Though she shook with fear she held her ground, raising her staff and standing in a fighting position while favoring her injured leg and arm. She was ready. When Max ordered her to defend the Padawan she gave a quick nod and a determined "Right!" Before moving to interpose herself between the child and the mysterious figure.

She stood in position in line with the other two Jedi, taking a moment to glance over her shoulder at the Padawan. "Don't worry," She said softly, doing her best to conceal her own fear. "We'll protect you." Then she looked back towards the masked man, holding back only slightly from the others to stay closer to the child.

When Max would shift the child over, it would flinch, curling into a tighter ball. They would shift, almost like they had substance... but it was so much more than that. Suddenly, it let out a keening wail, hands flung out as though to block an attack. Almost as though Max was attacking It.

"NO!" It sobbed, wailing pathetically. "You're hurting me, you're hurting me, you're hurting me---"

Just as Izel stepped closer, the Dark Jedi would pause. Though there were no eyes, it scrutinized both the two Knights, and then settled on the Padawan, who trembled, still wailing and sobbing. Its' head tilted... then stared straight at Max.

Weak... too weak to use the tool to protect your own...

It held up its' lightsaber with a firm, yet nonchalant grip, before staring straight at Oren.
And too weak to face your past, your regrets and failures. It reeks of Darkness... and fear.

This last part was addressed to Izel. If there was a face behind the mask, it would be smiling. Instead, deep, dark laughter welled from the walls, trembled from the ground until the very temple shuddered beneath their feet... yet held steady.

For now.

The thumb pressed on the activator stud, and the lightsaber hissed to life, a bloody deep red that filled the shadows with baleful crimson eyes.

Without a word, it swung towards Max first, the left-handed grip intent to slash from shoulder to hip, aiming a Force Pull with its' other hand towards Oren's knees to get the Jedi to stumble.

As Izel would watch, the Padawan continued to sob pathetically. But it was changing... growing taller, thinner, still hunched over. And as she shifted her attention to the two Jedi, It would strike. Hands raised to aim a Force Push directly at her midsection, as it did lifting its' face to her.

The hateful smile and yellow eyes glinting from within the hood, face as white as bone.

Oren's brown eyes narrowed as he watched the dark side vision peer towards him, mocking him for his past. A soft smile formed over the near human's face as he felt a sense of calm, even in the face of the spirit. "It's funny, the cave said the same thing, but here I am..." He would unclip the baton from his belt just as the darkside spirit ignited his blade towards Max.

Just as the room illuminated with crimson, Oren would quickly reach out in the force in an attempt to pull the vision towards him, but was caught off guard by the figure's own manipulation in the force, which sent him tumbling towards the ground, but hopefully the pull would be enough to slow the figure's swing towards his comrade.

The Jedi Knight would roll a few feet, as his baton rolled off into the darkness. he'd peer up to assess the scene. "Izel!" He'd yell towards the student, as he saw the spirit of the padawan slowly morph into a tall insideious creature. I have to get up, I can't stop now... He'd grunt as he pulled his tired body up from the ancient marble. He'd reach out with the force, pulling the baton back into his hands, before charging towards the tall spirit. He would shift the blade of the baton back behind his head as he ran. He would bring it down over his head in an execution style as he approached, hoping that the movements would catch the spirit and cause it to back up slightly. As the blade arched downwards and was close to level with his chest, he would flick his wrist to the side, and flicking the baton forward, throwing the blade through the air and towards the midsection of the vision. I may have been weak then, but I have no option to do so now..Not when too many are counting on me.

Hunting him?

Like hells he was.

A simple and rather weak Force movement was hurting someone? No. No Max was assured almost immediately that the 'padawan' was, indeed, a part of the defense that the Dark Side was going to put forward. It played it's hand too early for the inevitable change to come as a shock.

Weakness hmm?

Through a combination of his own alertness, his own reflexes and Oren's attempts to slow the attacker, Max was able to bring his lightsaber up to bear, igniting it as he did so. His own blue blade would catch the red blade high, stopping it on it's downward swing towards his shoulder.

"I don't like using my saber to kill or maim..."

He pushed the blade of the enemy upwards with his blade even as he activated the other end of his saberstaff and pushed forwards with it in a sweeping upwards cut aimed at the enemy's chest while it's saber was still up high, taking advantage of having a blade on each end of the saberstaff.

"But you're not a living being. You're an abomination."

Izel clicked in annoyance at her feelings being so transparent to the spirit, but steadied herself nevertheless. She would not be useless this time. She'd make sure of that. Taking a deep breath she began reciting the Jedi code in her head, her mind calming and her tremoring stopping.

The fight began in a flash, the faceless figure knocking Oren to the ground and swinging his red lightsaber at Max. Izel was so engrossed in the battle before her she didn't notice the Padawan spirit changing behind her, that was until Oren warned her anyway. The Vratix turned just as the spirit Force pushed her, having just enough time to brace herself and dig one of her hook-claws into the floor. She slid back several feet from the blast, but managed to maintain her balance thanks to her comrade's warning.

"That was a cheap shot," She piped up as she looked at the now much more heinous looking spirit. "Didn't anyone ever teach you any manners?" She then joined Oren in a counterattack against the Padawan spirit, leaping up high into the air and flipping over the monster while the Knight went straight at it. As he made an attack at the spirit's midsection, she would swing her staff fiercely as she arced over the being, attempting to smack it in the back of the head. Her adrenaline was pumping, but she was focused, determined not to let her fellow Jedi down.

The Padawan snarled as Oren came charging; the hit to Izel was successful, at least, but as he swung the baton, the tall creature stepped further back, then to the side as the Padawan Izel leapt overhead. The stun glanced over an arm, and it shrieked angrily, clawing towards the Jedi knight's stomach as its' stunned arm hung uselessly to its' side, nails sharpened to black claws while it crouched, limping at the glanced blow.

Pathetic, it snarled, glaring.

As Max lifted the arm of the Jedi and swung up, intending to slice him in half, the Dark Jedi growled, twisting his wrist down and slamming a palm towards the Jedi's solar plexus, aiming to stun him while attempting to keep the saberstaff partially blocked... but he was close. A little more pressure from Max, maybe... It was not a win... but the Jedi would not succeed.

The Darkness would devour them all for attempting to purify it, and It wanted to see their lights wither and die while they fought. Weak... like so many before them.

Max took the hit for one simple reason; it let the spirit think it had the upper hand and meant that it was focused on the push and less on the fact that it had thrust it's free hand out across it's torso to Push him. Which meant that it's hand was right below the bottom blade of his saberstaff.

Even as he was hit in the stomach his blade would come up but because he was sightly knocked back it wouldn't be able to cut into the stomach. Instead he moved it up regardless as he was moved back, the blade moving upwards from underneath the outstretched arm so the blade would be on an intercept course with the arm at the wrist when it was still fully extended mid-gesture.

Still, the hit was not a love tap but he would be fine to continue, pulling his staff back closer to himself in front of him in a guard position. He tutted.

"Your Master must be so proud of you eh?"

The thrown stun baton seemed to work partially, and he would step back as the large darkside spirit cried out in agony as the baton destroyed any use of his hand. The creature slashed towards him, but the side step would be enough time to brace for the attack, his muscles would tense up along his abdomen as he felt the claws cut across his stomach, tearing through the shirt and drawing blood. He would wince in pain, but his charred hands would raise, as he felt every last bit of exhaustion as he commanded the force as he used it to sized around the body of the beast, as his breath seemed to slow to a crawl.

"Izel.." He'd say with a heavy breath, "Feel out in the force, find your peace and channel it upon this beast..you will feel the pain of it, but do your best to remember our teachings..only then can we defeat this." His fingers would bend as he did his best to try and hold the creature in place. If the Padawan did nothing, his power would give and he wasn't sure he could muster up the energy for any more use with the force.
