DESCRIPTION
The DE-TEC aerospace warning & ranging apparatus is a field sensor installation manufactured by Fabritech, primarily used for military applications. Transported to a minimally pre-prepared site on a planet, erected and supplied with power and data outputs, the DE-TEC is capable of detecting and tracking spacecraft and atmospheric vehicles out to high orbital altitudes. Using high-tech signal noise reduction systems and an advanced targeting computer, it can be used to direct the fire of friendly anti-aerospace assets, including ground-based artillery and missile systems. It can also be used to vector interceptor craft toward enemy targets. The system can also detect the transition of a ship from realspace to hyperspace and vice versa, although it cannot say where a ship came from or where it is going.

The DE-TEC consists of a mushroom-shaped durasteel structure, topped with an array of sensor antennae. Power is provided by an external generator, and the system can be linked to a conventional command & control setup using hard data-lines, likewise an external communication system. Aside from a small access hatch designed for access by MSE-series maintenance droids, the DE-TEC is essentially a sealed unit.

DE-TECs struggle to pick out targets below 15 meters in altitude due to interference from ground clutter. They are best employed in tracking aerial targets.

LEGALITY
Restricted. DE-TECs are considered military technology, and are illegal for individuals to own on most civilized worlds.

INTENT
To create a standard ground-based sensor array for use against air and space vehicles.

RESTRICTIONS
Long-range ground-based sensor systems are extremely expensive, and are beyond the means of all but a faction's resources.
