DESCRIPTION
The DC-15S blaster carbine is an infantry weapon produced by BlasTech Industries, one of the Galaxy's premier small arms manufacturers. Originally designed for the Grand Army of the Republic as the standard sidearm for its Clone Troopers, the DC-15S is a cut-down version of the longer, heavier DC-15A, meant for urban combat and other environments where a full-sized rifle would be inappropriate. The weapon was phased out shortly after the Clone Wars, being replaced by the venerable E-11 blaster rifle, however the shear number of DC-15S carbines produced ensures that it sees use even into the present day.

The DC-15S is a much more convenient weapon than its DC-15A predecessor, being shorter, lighter and easier to handle, especially in confined spaces. Unfortunately, like its full-sized counterpart, the weapon does have some disadvantages compared to modern blasters. The DC-15S uses essentially the same action as the DC-15A, with the only major differences being a collapsible stock, a shortened barrel and consequently less effective focusing elements. The weapon has a rather average range of 100 meters, but also retains the same ammunition capacity as the DC-15A, being able to fire 30 shots from a standard power pack. Like the DC-15A, the DC-15S lacks a stock scope, being intended to integrate with a Clone Trooper's helmet for targeting, although it also has a set of iron sights.

Though genuinely a handier design than the DC-15A, and being widely used during the Clone Wars, the Galactic Empire sought to replace it almost immediately after the war's conclusion. As a result, many examples wound up on the open market, and can still be found in service today, often with law enforcement agencies and backrocket militaries. They are also used by civilians, mercenaries and criminals, although better weapons are available.

LEGALITY
Legal. Ownership of blaster carbines is not restricted in most of the Galaxy, however openly carrying such a weapon in public might be on more "civilized" worlds. On less civilized worlds, it still might draw unwanted scrutiny.

INTENT
To bring a weapon from Star Wars Canon into our site's fanon.
