Varek was born to the Legionnaires and lived a life with them throughout his early years until he met the Guardians of the Eternal. During his early days of training, he was curious about the teachings of the old Sith Lords, and upon being exposed to the Guardians, he promptly joined them in hopes of preserving the memory of the old Sith and bringing back the ways of the Sith Lords.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

At his core, Varek is a selfish pragmatist. Meeting Varek for the first time, most people wouldn't notice anything outstanding about his personality. He's a relatively reserved individual, preferring not to show his hand too early. He tends to view others as a threat until proven otherwise and for this reason has always kept to himself.

Even so, he is quite perceptive when it comes to others. He can often look past the words people say and read their body language to determine what they are thinking. This information only gets him so far, though, and he has trouble then communicating his thoughts to others. Despite his definitive lack of a silver tongue, he often has the ability to reach others by understanding what they're thinking.

This understanding, however, rarely transfers into empathy. Most of the understanding and care for others was beaten out of him as a child and the rest slowly robbed from him in a series of life events to follow. What's left is a man uncaring for the vast majority of the world and interested primarily in his own well-being. While not senselessly cruel to others, he is not even remotely squeamish and will do whatever it takes to accomplish his ends.

Much of this is rooted in the fact that he was raised to believe that he was destined to conquer others and that if he fell behind and failed to do so, he would be conquered. This caused him to look to himself before others and generally makes him apathetic toward helping others.
