Ever since the war to kick the Hutts off Ord Mantell had been won, Natalie had very little time to actually spend on her homeworld. When she did have the time, it was almost always filled with tracking down left over terrorist cells and eliminating them with the Defense Corps. Once again she was being called as the Warden of the planet to enter the fray once more.

This time it was at least an interesting situation. Mantell Arms had spent the majority of its life producing weapons designed by other companies for use in the Defense Corps or occupying armies. After the stalemate broke, it was discovered the former CEO was supplying weapons to both sides of the war, and was disposed. Before the new CEO could even take over, their family was kidnapped by a terrorist cell calling themselves Xiandel’s Dawn. Instead of paying the ransom, the CEO went to Ord Mantell Command, just as Natalie had landed back on the planet.

Luckily, food could come first. No use hunting down the dregs of the galaxy on an empty stomach. Clad in her usual black tank top and dark jeans, lightsaber hilt displayed clearly on her right hip, Natalie browsed the stalls of street food on Main Street in Ord Mantell City. Grilled irling legs, gapillian grazer medallions, stir fry- between the food and the spices home grown on Ord Mantell, Natalie’s senses were filled with the great aroma of home. Her mouth watered and stomach growled in anticipation.

Of course, she settled for fried irling bites on a stick. She watched the azure Twi’lek set about covering a pan in oil, pull the meat from an armored irling leg, and cut the meat into large cubes. They sizzled deliciously the moment they hit the pan. It didn’t take long at all for three sticks of four irling cubes each to be placed in small protective sleeve and handed to Natalie in exchange for some credits. Now that food had been obtained, it was time to make her way back to Command.

Natalie turned back down the street, heading toward the Headquarters building. She took a bite of the first irling cube, humming her satisfaction at the delectably spiced meat. Sometimes she forgot how much she missed Ord Mantell and its food. The first stick never stood a chance- she scarfed it down and started on the second with a more measured, controlled pace. On instinct she patted her pockets down, making sure she had her EZPhone and phrik knuckles. Never knew when you had to call a friend while punching a Hutt terrorist, after all.

Ava waited patiently in the queue at the hot dog vendor. She was only on Ord Mantell on a stopover in her travels. She thought she’d take advantage of that and check out the food on offer on the main street. She was dressed in her regular outfit, her lightsaber at her waist.

She wasn’t very picky about food. When she had spent longer periods of time in the wilderness, she happily munched on bugs. They do say to feed off the living force… Given the amount of exercise she had to do, she allowed herself to be quite lax with what she ate. It hadn’t affected her fitness yet.

Reaching the front of the queue, she handed over some credits and waited for the heavily processed hot dog to be handed over, covered in ketchup. It didn’t last very long.

Devouring the hot dog, as she walked, she let out a small burp. “Sorry,” she said to a passer-by who noticed, giving them a smile. Licking the ketchup off her fingers, she then wiped away some ketchup that had dripped onto her chin and licked it off her hand. She rubbed her hands together to finish cleaning them.

Looking up, she thought she spotted someone she recognised. She was brown haired and, from a distance, seemed a similar height to Ava. A lightsaber hilt at her waist. “Oh wait, I know who they are,” Ava muttered to herself.

Approaching Natalie, she smiled at the Jedi Warden as she got closer. “Excuse me, hi, sorry, are you Warden Natalie Hope?

The mention of her name spun Natalie around to be met with a dark robed woman with a lightsaber. On one hand, the dark robes and lightsaber was cause for a tiny bit of concern. On the other, however, and hear Natalie out here… food. Instead of fussing over a potential attacker, Natalie took another bite of her fried irling meat. If she was going to die, she was going to die with deliciousness in her stomach. Of course, with the sticks the irling meat came on being sharp, Natalie was now armed to the teeth.

Potential attacker didn’t make much sense, now that Natalie thought about it, and looked the woman up and down. Very few in the galaxy even knew what a Warden was, let alone that knew her name and rank. Oh no… She was getting famous wasn’t she? Natalie knew this day would come; the day she transcended that of Padawan Hopeless and became a figure-head. At least the Jedi finally had something cute to aspire to, right? How long had they aspired to be ruggedly hot like Ez- Don’t go there Natalie, not right now. Right.

That depends,” Natalie said, waving the meat stick in her hand around like a wand. “If you’re about to ask me about my speeder’s extended warranty, then no, I am not. Anything else- sure am.” She paused, taking another bite from stick-meat. Why was meat on a stick so good? Seriously. It should be illegal galaxy wide to be meat on a stick and taste so good all the damn time. “Most people just call me Natalie.

That was, of course, unless Natalie’s career as a celebrity was finally starting. It was always so weird to her that celebrities were always named with both first and last names while regular people were just one or the other. If she was getting famous maybe she’d be able to get acting lessons! Chronic valley girl actress, here we come!

There was a pause after Ava greeted Natalie. I hope I haven’t upset her. Ava’s eyes were drawn to whatever the meat was on the stick. That looks good. Probably too much to go looking for more food after the hot dog she just wolfed down.

No, I don’t know anything about warranties,” she said, laughing. “I’m a Jedi. My name’s Ava.” She smiled at Natalie, noticing as the Jedi warden took another bite of the food. “Sure, of course. It’s really great to meet you Natalie,” she declared enthusiastically.

She had tried to resist the temptation to ask about the food, but curiosity got the better of her. “Uhhh, if it’s ok to ask, what’s that stuff on the stick? It looks amazing. I just had a hot dog.

No extended warranty knowledge, good. That means one enemy was defeated today already. The damned faceless, galactic-marketers. Want to relax and have a nice, quiet time? Too bad, time to talk on the comlink about warranties and loans! Sometimes Natalie thought the assholes that worked them were more evil than the Sith. This Ava person was a Jedi though, and judging by the lack of glares, wasn’t turned off by the idea of Jedi Crusaders. What a relief.

Nice to meet you too, Ava,” Natalie said, taking yet another bite of her meat on a stick. When Ava asked about said meat on a stick, Natalie offered her the non-pointy end of the last remaining stick that had fried irling meat on it. “It’s irling meat! A delicacy here on Ord Mantell. They’re uh… how do I explain this?” Natalie took the last bite of her irling meat on a stick, assuming Ava took the last stick from the bag she was offering.

They’re terrifying bugs that are about seven to eight feet and can fly. They live in hives of about a hundred or so, but they hate sunlight and noise. It’s kind of a tradition here to gather a group of friends with blasters, go to a hive and lower a light with a sound emitter down into it. When the irling come flying out, they’re stunned by the sunlight and easy pickings.” Natalie explained while chewing. “Then because Ord Mantell runs hot, we got some nice peppers that we make seasoning with so you can get them nice and spicy.

Now that Ord Mantell was a Jedi planet, albeit more loyal to Natalie than to the Order, it wasn’t uncommon to see Jedi roaming around the streets and helping out where they could. Natalie was sure Ava hadn’t come to learn about Mantellian customs on eating bugs, though. No, Jedi usually came around for the more stabby-stab of activities that Ord Mantell offered. Come to kick some ass, stay because the food is good and the bourbon flows freely. Or because you saw a flutterplume and absolutely must have one. Good luck taming the big-ass rainbow vultures though.

What brings you to my neck of the woods, Ava?” Natalie asked. There was a nickname for Ava somewhere, Natalie had to find it. Everyone always gave her some ammunition eventually for that kind of thing.

Ava gave Natalie a big grin. “Thanks,” she said cheerily, taking the meat on the stick. I suppose it won’t hurt to eat a little more. She consumed the food in short order, while she listened to Natalie. When she finished, she wiped her mouth clean with the back of her hand.

So, it was bug meat. Definitely tasted better than the bugs she’d eaten before. “That sounds great, I love spicy food,” she replied, putting emphasis on the word love. “And those Irling don’t taste like any bug I’ve eaten before,” she added.

So…oh wait,” she said, putting her hand over her mouth to stifle a small burp. “Sorry, it’s the hot dog,” she said, suppressing a laugh. “I’m actually here on a stopover. Just travelling around, trying to help people where I can,” she explained. “If there is anything I could help with here, I’d definitely want to,” she stated, smiling again.

The way Ava ate was almost exactly like Natalie, though Natalie liked to savor some flavors a bit more. Don't get her wrong, Natalie could absolutely demolish some foods. Put a plate of noodles or meat in front of her and it'll be gone in seconds if she's hungry enough. She always liked to take her time with Mantellian foods though; she didn't get to spend much time on her home planet, even as its Warden, so when she was here she loved eating the foods she couldn't afford as a kid.

"Irling are pretty high in protein, and to make it into the tender steak we usually velvetise it with baking powder, sugar, and corn starch. Gives it the tender consistency," Natalie said. After that it was as easy as throwing as much garlic as one had at it and covering it in seasoning that wasn't salt and pepper. All a recipe for the greatest meat the galaxy will ever know- or not know, because you could only get it on Ord Mantell. Galaxy's loss though.

"Well, Ord Mantell could always use some help. I was on my way to take care of a terrorist cell that kidnapped the family of a new CEO to one of the weapons plants. I was going to take a squad of troopers in with me, but I'm sure they won't mind a Jedi going in their place," Natalie explained. "You up for it?"

Ava enjoyed hearing about the process of preparing the Irling. That being said, even though she liked to eat, she was a pretty lousy cook.

She was glad that there was an opportunity to help with something, albeit in horrible circumstances. “Sure, definitely,” she replied, unable to temper her natural enthusiasm.

So, do you know much about these terrorists?

"Nope!" Natalie shook her head and shrugged. She turned toward the central road and began walking. At the end of the road would be the military cordon of the weapons factory. The military would stay outside while the two Jedi would make their way in. Maybe the shooting and stabbing would start before they even got in! Ooooo that would be fun! Talking things out would have been fun too, but Natalie didn't like negotiating with terrorists. "I know that they're funded by the Cartels. I know they're very unhappy to have lost the war here on Ord Mantell. And I know that the previous CEO was their friend which is why they've kidnapped the new one that isn't."

"Oh yeah, and they call themselves Xiandel's Dawn, whatever that is," Natalie added. This wouldn't be the first time Natalie strode into danger with a stranger, and it wouldn't be the last. It would be the first time she brought a stranger to danger on Ord Mantell though. She didn't know how to feel about it, but at least Ava was a Jedi. Two lightsabers were always better than one.

"I should have probably asked before, but you don't get queesy when stabbing things with a lightsaber do you?" The amount of times vomit had been in the air and then not in the air because it landed on her was too many times. Far too many times. It would be a rough day if Ava wasn't into the whole stabbing things part. It was the funnest part if Natalie had anything to say about it.

Right, ok,” Ava replied, seeming completely unbothered by the fact that Natalie said she knew nothing about the terrorists. I guess I’ll find out soon enough.

As they walked down the main road, a large building loomed in the distance. Looks kind of like a factory.

When they approached the cordon at the end of the road, Natalie did offer up some more information about the terrorists. Backed by the cartels. The cartels were behind so many of the problems in the galaxy. Someone needed to put a stop to them once and for all.

Xiandel’s Dawn? Sounds like some sort of weird movie.

Ava smiled at Natalie’s question. “It hasn’t happened yet.

The military allowed her and Natalie through the cordon. They seemed quite happy that the Jedi were there to try and deal with things. The large loading area outside the factory was quiet. Ava looked around, her senses alert.

It’s better when the bad guys don’t hide,” she remarked jokingly

Now that she thought about it, it did sound like a weird movie. Wonder if that’s why they named themselves what they did. What even was a Xiandel any way? Or who? Since there’s a dawn did that mean there was also a dusk? So many questions, so little time. Natalie, the scholar, would have to wait for the answers to all of them. As if Nataie could ever be so stuffy to be a scholar. Yeesh.

Hasn’t happened yet does not mean ‘no,” Natalie said, narrowing her hazel eyes at Ava. “If you do puke, aim it away from me. If I see another ounce of puke flying in my direction I swear I’m going to just become a hermit.” Natalie grabbed her lightsaber and held it ready to ignite as they crossed the cordon. It was like any other factory on Ord Mantell; big, full of weapons, dangerous. Never change, home, never change!

I’d hide too if I saw us coming to get them,” she said, looking around for a moment. Natalie strode toward the largest of the entrances, a door that would open upward when they approached. “Helloooooooooooooo! Anyone home?” Not an answer. When the door didn’t automatically open Natalie sighed.

I’d say I didn’t mean to barge in,” she started, raising her left hand to reach out with the Force. The door shook, then shot upwards where it would stay. Natalie was a Jedi Warden and still not used to how strong she could be with the Force. Whoops. Oh well, more fun this way. “But that would be a lie, and battle nuns don’t lie… or something.

Just as intended, the blaster bolts starting flying immediately. Natalie ignited the blue blade of her lightsaber and spun it in front of her, deflecting what she could back at the shooters. The initial defense was four guys. It was a small terrorist cell, give them a break. The others were probably off making the weird movie or something.

It seemed like Natalie had experience with being puked on. That’s grim. Ava doubted she would do anything like that. I’ll just aim it at the bad guys, if it happens.

She followed Natalie to the door. “Maybe they’re out,” she commented, with a smile.

Natalie moved the large door with ease, reminding Ava that this was a Jedi Warden she was helping out.

Battle nuns? I never thought of it like that.

Within a few seconds, the blaster bolts went flying. Narrowly dodging a couple of shots, she ignited her lightsaber. Not hesitating, she charged towards the shooters.

Vaulting over a crate, she ducked under a shot and then leapt up and swiped her blade at the closest attacker. The green blade of the saber cut through their neck, sending their head tumbling away. Reacting quickly, she deflected a blaster bolt back at one of the others. The shot punched through their chest, dropping them instantly.
