DESCRIPTION​

The Cutlass-8 light starfighter is a small combat spacecraft manufactured by the SoroSuub Corporation. A relative of the more full-featured Cutlass-9 patrol starfighter, the Cutlass-8 was meant to compliment the '9 in SoroSuub's catalog, being cheaper and easier to maintain than its counterpart, though with correspondingly fewer features.

In many ways, the Cutlass-8 is like the TIE fighter, a contemporary design. Armament is sparse, consisting of only a pair of medium laser cannons; top speed is around 100 MGLT, and the fighter's maneuverability is excellent. It lacks shields or a hyperdrive, however.

The Cutlass-8, like SoroSuub itself, unfortunately found itself on the wrong side of the Clone Wars. Alongside the Mankvim-814 light interceptor, large numbers of Cutlass-8s were built to equip the organic pilots of the CIS. After the war, many of these ex-Separatist craft would find their way onto the black market, and SoroSuub was even permitted to keep making them. As a result, these craft saw service with rebels, pirates, mercenaries, corporate forces and planetary militias; these continue to be their most common careers in the present day.

LEGALITY​

Legal. Though they are technically starfighters, Cutlass-8s are considered only light craft under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.
