Council of the Sith Lords

The Council of the Sith Lords, often hyphenated to the Dark Council, is the ruling religious body of the revived Sith Order. Made up of the most powerful Sith Lords of the Order, the Dark Council wields absolute power over the other Sith, ruling and lording over them, very often forcing or manipulating its lesser members into doing their bidding. Unlike the Dark Councils of the part, the current Council of the Sith Lords consolidates its power within only five primary members;

The High Arcanist; the most adept and proficient practitioner of the most arcane sorcery of the Dark Side and Sith Alchemy, the Blademaster; the most skilled and powerful swordsman of the Seven Forms and Three Styles of the lightsaber, and the Keeper of Veritas; the master of the Chambers of Heresies and keeper of the Sith Order's most ancient and secret rituals, Sith lore, legends and histories. The second in command of the Sith Order and Council of the Sith Lords is the Shadow Hand; the right hand of the Dark Lord of the Sith and the primary liaison between the Sith Order and the Imperial Military.

Above the other Sith Lords stands the Dark Lord of the Sith. The leader of the Council of the Sith Lords and the Sith Order in general, the Dark Lord is the absolute ruler of the Sith, not unlike the monarchy of a emperor. Indeed, on many occasions, the Dark Lord may be addressed as the Sith King. The other Sith Lords often act as advisors to the Dark Lord and take care of the day-to-day needs of the Order. The Sith Lords are thus the most powerful users of the Dark Side in Order, next to the Shadow Hand and Dark Lord, who exercise power above the equals.

Under most circumstances, the Sith Lords are permanently established in the Dark Council. There are only three ways a Sith Lord may be removed of the Council and stripped of their title. The first is by resignation, in the event that a Sith Lord may willingly step down. The second is removal by consensus of the other members of the Council or by the Dark Lord directly. The final method is often considered the rite by fire, and is seen as the true way of ascension. At any time, another Sith may challenge one of the Lords of the Council to claim their title and their position. While the Sith Lord has the option of rejecting the challenge by most lesser Sith, should the challenge be made by a Sith Master, it must be accepted, and the duel must commence before the other members of the Sith Council.
