"The true test of our philosophy is war; the real measure of our Force mastery is power; the highest truth of Sithism is victory."

- Sith proverb

Veles (/veh-les/), born Cinere Autem (/sin-eh-reh ah-oo-tehm/) was a human Sith, sorcerer, and military commander from the planet Dathomir. It was there that he was raised until the age of 18, trained by his parents to prepare for a life spent serving the Sith Order. Dedicating himself to his craft, Cinere learned how to harness the Force from a young age, eventually moving on to things like hand-to-hand combat and, finally, sword-fighting. He built his first lightsaber at the age of 16, spending nearly two weeks in a cave on Dathomir corrupting a kyber crystal and then slaughtering a rancor to bring home as a rite of passage, as was custom in their family.

Leaving Dathomir

Life on Dathomir is hard even for those who have walked through its forests for millennia, but for outsiders it hinges on impossible. His family had learned to tame the land around them, to exercise strength over those weaker than them and compromise with those they could not destroy. The training rigorous and challenging even from a young age, Cinere found himself coming to terms with accepting suffering as an omnipresent part of his life, which was the first step to wielding power over his destiny.

He was 18 years old when he felt the call tugging at the very core of his being, as though the voices of his ancestors were at last declaring that the time has come for him to fulfill his family's prophecy. There was no hesitation within him, no second thinking the decision to go where no Autem had gone for the past century and a half; Cinere left his homeworld and set course for Coruscant, where he murdered a Sith and took his spot in the ranks of the order even before the Empire had risen.

Amassing Power

He orchestrated the Sith conquest of Mustafar, where he asserted dominance over the world's Force nexus, proving himself worthy of accessing the darkness below Fortress Vader, and opening up the opportunity to repopulate the base. Alongside the Acolyte of Darth Caelestis, he ventured out to Taris, where he sought out and claimed an ancient artifact--the Journals of Ukinat. He was then forced to fight through an ambush of AMS-infected zombies and dispatched them all using the Force, tapping into the dark side and letting it flow through him. This would later be pointed out to be the first instance of his descent deeper into the use of the dark side to augment him in battle and his interest for the arcane.

Cinere claimed another Sith artifact, the Mask of Lord Momin, fighting a Jedi on Ord Mantell and beating him.

Embracing Dathomir

His attachment to his home world and previous run-ins with the Nightsisters caused Cinere to seek out the mentorship of the Queen of Dathomir--the Empress of the Sith, Darth Andruil. Though skeptical of his motives at first and perhaps more than slightly offended at the idea of teaching an outsider a craft so closely guarded by the planet's natives, she took to the idea after some persuasion, and a whole new world became open to Cinere.

She instructed him to seek out seclusion on Dathomir to ruminate on the teachings and he obliged, living in a shack in the forests and tinkering with the arcane. Months later, his training complete, Cinere emerged back out into the Galaxy, clearly changed. It was then that a new era began for him, now a Sith Lord--Darth Veles.

Sith Lord

When the Chancellor was assassinated, Veles aided the hitman in framing someone else on the promise of a favor to be decided. The two attend a masquerade under identities that are not theirs, and succeed.

Curious about Dagobah, the world that had somehow always slipped through the cracks, the Sith Lord ventured out there with Malou D'Amaris. The two discovered that the Cave of Evil had been destroyed but still fall under the influence of the locus of darkness, being forced to prove their worth against illusions targeting the deepest parts of their psyches. Kidnapped by a tribe of cannibals, they break out and Veles slaughters them in a fit of disgust.

Months after the last they saw of each other on Dathomir, the sorcerer met with the Empress on Mustafar, and showed her around Fortress Vader, where he'd spent the past years overseeing its rehabilitation. After a brief discussion regarding the Mandalorians' newly-rekindled crusade and the purge of the Imperial Council, Veles taught her how to mold severed limbs using the power of the dark side. A few days later, he traveled to Serenno to console Malou as she grieved the death of her master in the purge. The two stumble upon a pocket of darkness in the forest near Castle Wessex.

As the Inquisitorius rose, so, too, did their influence grow, and the Dathomirian found himself accompanied by an undercover Inquisitor on a diplomatic trip to Sullust, where the planetary government had agreed to meeting them. Welcomed by a delegation flanked by armed guards, they were lead into an ambush and killed the bounty hunters who sought them out to turn in to the Jedi Order for some credits. He would later assist the same Inquisitor (now disguised) on a mission to Utapau to apprehend a deserter, where they subdued an independent Forceful stranger who attempted to get in their way.

Meeting Altair

Taking in an apprentice, Veles is thrown into a world of chaos as their ship crash lands on a remote stretch of land on Naboo that is still stuck in its iron age. There, they are kidnapped and thrown into a fearsome dungeon, but fight their way out, slaying a krayt dragon, until they reach the king and plunder his fortune to get off-world. Veles and his apprentice, Altair Din, later traveled to Dathomir, where they tamed a rancor and passed by Veles' childhood home.

The Sith Lord also met his apprentice's best friend, Cairo Kisufi, on a mission to Mataou, where they negotiate with Xendor the Hutt, agreeing to produce wildfire—an experimental new drug that Veles was told was created through Sith alchemy and increased one's connection to the Force temporarily—for the Hutt in exchange for the territory. Later that week, the Sith Lord interrogates an imprisoned Jedi Padawan, corrupting him to the darkness.

Accepting the summons of the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Raze, Veles travels to the Unknown Regions to a First Order-era facility that specialized in top secret projects, notably the revival of creating abominations. He aids the Dark Lord in breaking the mind of an abomination, and after plundering what notes and research they could find, the two leave for Korriban.

Fall From Grace & Quest for Redemption

The beginning of the end, Veles ruined everything around him on Taris at a Sith rave by providing wildfire to Altair and Cairo, as well as selling it to an Acolyte. He was confronted by the former host of the Eternal, Tiamat, and he was left alone as Altair and Cairo fled. Tiamat defeated him, and it was through her that Veles found out that wildfire causes addiction from the very first high and severs one's connection to the Force over time. She also told Altair, then claimed the tiefling as her apprentice.

Things took a turn for the worse the next morning, when Veles was summoned by the Empress to answer for his deeds. Narrowly escaping execution, he was stripped of Lordship and ordered to eradicate all traces of wildfire from the Imperial ranks, as well as to oversee the safe rehabilitation of those addicted as a result of his actions. On a race against time, he traveled to one of the moons of Qoribu to seek out a holocron made by a Sith Lord who specialized in the research of midichlorians in hopes that it may help him find an antidote to his addiction to wildfire. Malou accepted his request for help, despite his doubts.

B A C K S T O R Y
Raised in the crimson lands of Dathomir in a shack worlds away from any developed civilization, Cinere Autem was born into a line of dark siders that stretched back generations, all the way to the failed project known as the First Order and perhaps even farther. Fallen out of grace and forever branded as traitors after Sidious' defeat, a small group of individuals that had once fought among the ranks of the former faction fled to Dathomir. They settled down there, slowly raising families of their own. The horrors of a planet so steeped in the dark side, one so hostile to outsiders, ensured their settlement was doomed from the very beginning. The weak perished quickly, succumbing to madness, slain by the wildlife, or assaulted by nightsisters who were bent on driving them out of their home. It was an unforeseen test of strength for a group that had just fled from a failed war, and the culling was not kind. Only Cinere's family remained, making compromises with the nightsisters and taming the land around them until the tide of horrors receded and they became masters of their new home. It was a life of solitude, but one they had sought out themselves, and engulfed for generations in the dark side, the family only grew more powerful. It was hard for one to remain sane on a planet like Dathomir for so long, but with each new generation, it seemed that they grew better and better at adapting. By the time Cinere was born, he could daresay their life had even become mundane.

He was raised to be a fighter, to uphold the eternal war of the Sith Order regardless of whether the organization still existed or not. Some may consider his family a group of desperate idealists clinging to the scraps of an old memory. To them, they were dutiful guardians awaiting the return of a movement that had proven to rise, fall, and revive time and time again. It was a simple life, free from drama, with a goal to focus on without any distractions. Unlike others, he did not fight back against his parents’ wishes, fully aware that wielding a lightsaber was his birthright and should he eventually rejoin the ranks of the Sith, a century-long quest riddled with misfortune and disaster had been successful. From the moment he opened his eyes, he could tell that the world they were on was not ordinary. That they themselves, outsiders to Dathomir, were not ordinary. Training was not hard, because training was all he grew to know. He learned to spar as soon as he could properly grip a sword. He learned the intricacies of a blaster as he learned to read, discovered the things he could achieve with the Force early on and becoming enamored with the power that he had been privileged with.

Nothing on the planet scared him, because it was his home and he had been born and raised on it. Creatures that could make seasoned veterans freeze in terror were nothing to him, just another of the many things that made Dathomir what it was. Caves of evil and sinister artifacts long lost by dark siders excited him, and Cinere took great interest in the occult. He was a skilled duelist and a skillful diplomat, his education coming from tomes that had been in his family since they arrived. He could talk the beskar'gam off a Mandalorian and the lekku of a Twi'lek; skin a rancor with a dagger and spend weeks on end in the pitch darkness of stuffy caves, but his real prowess was his affinity to the Force. It was not natural talent--it was consistent practice, fueled by the unrelenting drive to learn.

His parents made him go through trials and tribulations, growing in intensity as he got older, but he never felt any resentment toward them. Cinere knew that through struggle, he grew stronger, and he cherished the Sith way and its teachings. When he turned 18, after weeks of meditation, he became gripped with the feeling that it was time to go forth and fulfill his destiny, that the time had finally come for him to be the first Autem to step foot off Dathomir in the past century and a half. His parents understood, knew how the Force clears one's mind and yet fills it with cryptic visions and feelings. Cinere took off for Coruscant, the heart of the Galaxy, in search of answers.

When he arrived, the Empire had not yet formed. Even the Sith Eternal was a secretive movement then, operating in the shadows and not accepting just anyone within their ranks. Formerly a stranger to large groups or socializing, he became fascinated with the underground scene on Coruscant, spending his time people-watching in the lower levels and prowling the scaffolding late at night simply observing how others lived. Cinere took this time to learn about the world around him, to become up-to-date with the history and culture of the Galaxy, and he was hunting the entire time, seeking a way in, searching for a dark sider that could open the door for him.

Proving himself was not easy, and the distrust that the Sith he met had in him nearly ruined his chances many times. Spurred by the realization that this is what generations before had been working towards, he refused to take no for an answer. When he presented an ultimatum and was once more denied, Cinere assaulted the Sith, and saw for the first time the power of a Force user with formal training. He had spent his entire life preparing for this, and as he watched the life fade out of the enemy's eyes and felt the rush of killing his first sentient being, the call toward the darkness grew only louder. He had proven himself, not to anyone but to himself. With new confidence, a new understanding of his power, he became a Sith at last.

Looking nothing like he once used to, it is clear from Veles' appearance that he is a sorcerer. His skin is pale as bone, and his eyes two glowing orbs of orange, red, and yellow over a black sclera. His face is adorned with different tattoos that cover the bruising sustained from divination. His once-raven hair is now long and white, having been grown out while he was in seclusion on Dathomir. Sometimes, he wears it in a bun or ponytail, usually when going into battle or when focused on something. Despite his demonic look, Veles greatly values his appearance and hygiene, and uses several types of shampoos and conditioners to make sure his hair is always as soft as silk. He normally wears cologne and occasionally does his make-up (less so after getting the tattoos). He's thin but well-built and his upper torso is covered in tattoos, most of them to attune his connection to the Shadow.

He is above all a man of science, and approaches alchemy as a science. Taking great pride in his work, Veles works tirelessly to always improve, to always absorb as much knowledge as possible. He is interested in history (Galactic and Sith) and historical artifacts, the occult, some holonet films, and dozens of other things.

Unafraid to tap into his cruel side, Veles remains, still, somewhat rooted in his sense of self, though the corruption of working with the dark side has begun to take its toll in recent years. It is slowed, somewhat, by his practice of magick, as it does not corrupt the user. Veles has slain villages of unarmed tribesmen alone, decapitated enemies far too devolved for the fight to be considered fair, and stepped on bodies in the name of the Empire. Among those he considers friends, he behaves like a normal person, surprisingly caring and empathetic. With anyone he considers his enemy is where his dark side comes to light, and Veles has displayed time and time again an irredeemable cruelty that he must either learn to master or be consumed by.

Lawful evil.

It was then that he fell in with a group of dark siders among the lower levels—all novices seeking to be a part of something big. Eventually, word spread of machinations in the Unknown Regions, and it didn't take long before they were readying up for the journey to Exegol.

The location of the SE (now Sith Order's) home world isn't known outside of the Sith and the few Jedi/SR that (very) recently got a hold of the information. The information is being held onto by these few people until the Jedi and SR are ready to make a move. I'm not sure what machinations in the Unknown Regions you're referring to either.

This might just need to be updated to Sith Order vs Eternal in some places but that is a running trend and I think this was looked at before the Eternal made his reveal. But it looks good to me. Approved!
