Chiss Ascendancy Planetary Installations

Epsilon-Class Military Fortress
lunar_research_base_by_u2644-d4dt7c6.jpg

Manufactured By: Chiss Engineering Systems (CES)
Model: Epsilon-Class Military Fortress
Class: Capital Military Establishment
Length: No less than 10,000 meters by 11,000 meters, 1,000 meters above the ground, with 1,000 meters below ground.
Crew: 50,000 at least
Speed: Immobile
Armor: Extremely Heavy
Shielding: Heavy
Monitoring: State of the Art monitoring equipment is standard, capable of detecting anything that moves within ten miles of the fortress. Hidden holorecorders in the surrounding environment provide extra, but unnecessary, visual confirmation. The Motion monitoring system is fully capable of detecting through most stealth tech by monitoring the movement of the environment and nearby animals. Multiple landmines are also placed all around the fortress in many cases, though not all. The landmines are often placed close enough together that the setting off of one will trigger ten or fifteen more as well. Killing not only the poor soul who stepped on it, but those around him as well.
Stealth: The Epsilon is capable of concealing itself from most scanners, although this is virtually useless unless the person scanning does not come down onto the planet. The Epsilon is so large that it is hard to miss, but it does not show up on scanners due to the high tech, short range jamming devices it uses.
Jamming Devices: Jamming Devices are also employed by the Epsilon. Only the highest ranking officers have coms units that possess the needed codes to bypass the jammer. Lower ranking soldiers can only employ short range communicators that cease to function once the soldier is 100 meters away from the person they are contacting. The jammer is in effect at a minimum of thirty miles in all directions around the Epsilon.

Description:
The Epsilon Class Military Installation is the awe inspiring base of choice for the Chiss. This mammoth planetary fortification is able to withstand even the heaviest orbital bombardments with protective shielding, and able to destroy ships in the high atmosphere. With four super powered Orbital Ion Cannons, these bases disable anything descending to the planet. Six batteries of Heavy MegaMaser’s on movable arms enhance the maneuverability and flexibility of Chiss targeting, enhancing combat against close-range fighters and enemies. Forces on the ground are complemented with full support from the installation near-constant cover fire, a massive amount of armaments and supplies, and heavy shielding and armor. Carrying many fighters, bombers, and assault vehicles, it can serve as a capital military headquarters when the planet it is stationed in is under attack, coordinating the campaign across the planetary system. These fortresses are the most expensive and advanced installations in the Chiss military, thus they are not made in huge number and usually located in the Ascendancy's core worlds or where the Ascendancy wants a permanent foothold, instead of at the head of an assault.

Alpha Class Military Installation
lunar_research_base_by_u2644-d4dt7c6.jpg

Manufactured By: Chiss Engineering Systems (CES)
Model: Alpha Class Military Installation
Class: Military Installation
Length: 15 meters.

Description:
The Alpha Class military installation is designed as cheapest and most efficiently built Chiss base. Primarily used in low gravity situations, without an atmosphere, they can be built in a matter of hours. Their outer shell is lightly armored titanium, designed more to reduce the sensor signal of the base, than protect it. Still, it does well against high and low pressures, the intense heat and cold of space, and the occasional small meteorite. With optional medium deflector shielding able to be added, as well as various light anti craft and infantry turrets, they make good bases on asteroids and small moons, or to be used as frontal outpost in order to secure a foothold in battle.

Beta Class Military Installation

The Beta Class Military Installation is among the most common forms of atmospheric outposts in Chiss space. These buildings are able to be erected in a matter of three days each, and are perhaps the biggest base that can be found on an active battlefield. Often placed next to each other, these outposts and easily form a base complex. With moderate shielding, armor, and high powered weaponry, these are the mainstay outposts for the Chiss ground forces. Each contains repair bays, armories, barracks, mess halls, training facilities, sensors, communications devices, and other necessary implements to run a successful base. Their vehicle complement can be changed based on the mission, location and personal preference of the commander in charge.

"Passive Autonomous Area Denial System - PAADS"

P.A.A.D.S.

The Passive Autonomous Area Denial System was created as a defensive solution against incursions into Chiss Territory. One part defensive minefield, one part early warning system, and one part roving patrol, PAADS is a fully automated and impressively intelligent system. At the heart of PAADS is the Dragon's Tooth Automated Deep Space Mining Vessel - ADSMV. Though its name alludes to a resource gathering craft, the Dragon is far from it. The seven hundred meter long vessel is a mobile factory, minelaying station, mine control vessel, and communications post. Its lack of an organic crew allows its interior space to be optimized for the completion of its mission, that mission being deploying and controlling vast expanses of mines.

Each DT-class Minelayer is tasked with deploying minefields around the borders of Chiss space. While the fields are hardly all-encompassing, they do guard known hyperspace routes in and out of Chiss space and the area immediately surrounding those routes. A single DT, fed a stream of supplies from local drone mining operations or from Chiss supply depots, is capable of laying and maintaining a defensive minefield around a hyperspace lane sufficient enough to thwart minor incursions. Two DT's are able to produce a thicker field capable of discouraging hostile fleet movement, or they can produce and maintain a minefield over a reasonably wide area surrounding the hyperspace lane to prevent incursions via nearby, less-popular routes. To limit wasted resources, they are not deployed in areas where no known hyperspace route exists. For the Chiss, who know their territory inside out, there is no such thing as a hyperspace route unknown to them.

DT-class Minelayers produce three types of mines, and one drone seeded at a 20-5-1-5 ratio in any deployed field. The first, most common mine is a simple dual-purpose high explosive mine utilizing a homing warhead. This mine, the CADN-19A3, carries one quarter-tonne 'breaching' charge at the nose, and one three-quarter tonne 'bursting' charge in the midsection of the mine. The CADN-19A3 waits until an enemy craft closes to within a short distance by using passive sensors and communications systems to monitor the craft's approach. Once it reaches attack distance, approximately eight kilometers, it pulses the target with active sensors. Upon confirming that the target is a threat, it fires its single-use high-acceleration fusion drive and flings itself on an intercept course at the target. Upon striking the target, the first charge detonates in order to weaken shields or armor, and to allow the second, more powerful charge to inflict heavy damage upon the craft.

The second type of mine is the IADN-21A1. This is a specialized ionic pulse mine, whose operational principles are precisely the same as the CADN-19A3 except that when it detonates, it hits the target with a powerful ion pulse meant to disable rather than destroy outright. In active hyperlanes, these mines are more commonly used and frequently employed first - upon successful disabling a craft, the DT Minelayer tending the field can summon the Chiss fleet to investigate any craft its mines have disabled.

The third type of mine is the ERSU-7V, or 'Ersa' Sensor Pack. This is a type of control and sensor mine, and one is employed in every section of 20 CADN and 5 IADN mines. Its high-endurance power supplies and high-efficiency sensor and comms arrays allows the Ersa to use active sensors and communications for a prolonged period of time. The Ersa is responsible for providing targets to the mines it accompanies, for communicating with the tending DT-class, and for broadcasting 'challenges' to and identifying any ship that encroaches on the field. In the event the Ersa is disabled, its complement of mines switch to an aggressive defense mode and target any non-Chiss navy ship that approaches. This is to combat efforts to disarm fields by neutralizing ERSU-class mines.

The drone is the Blizzard-Class Defensive Drone. designed specifically to avoid being damaged by the other mines and engage the enemy. While not equipped or even expected to hold off and eliminate enemy forces, they are powerful enough to stave off an enemy invasion long enough for an Expansionary Patrol fleet to arrive and engage the enemy.

All three mines share the same cylindrical chassis, made of matte black carbon fibre paneling for reduced weight and a low sensor cross-section. The drones have a small, board like chassis when in inactive position designed to allow them to blend with the mines. This makes them difficult to spot optically, and their extensive use of passive systems also makes detection at range via sensors difficult. However, active sensor scanning can and will reveal the mines, as will gravitic sensors or flying right at the mines and angering them.

In addition to its complement of CADN, IADN, and ERSU mines, each Dragon's Tooth class houses 12 heavy-duty repair drones. Each the size of a YT-1300 and bristling with manipulator arms, tools, and cargo bays, these drones serve to place, retrieve, and otherwise service mines that have fallen into disrepair. They can also seize disabled vessels and drag them into storage in the DT-Class's Quarantine hangar, which is an isolated hangar under heavy droid and turret guard. The Dragon's Tooth also carries a mobile hyperspace beacon, allowing communication with the Chiss Fleet, and a host of tractor beam generators and light point-defense weapons.

Those DT-class Minelayers tasked to major hyperspace lanes are also often retrofitted with a gravity well generator and a small number of ion cannons and maser cannons, allowing them to more effectively police their routes.

Chiss Engineered Software Viruses

300px-Reach_Datapad9.jpg

Latest developments from Chiss Engineering Systems's top engineers to begin developing improved technical software programs, designed to infiltrate and attack enemy computer systems. There were three encoded viruses under development, the first prioritizing in stealth and leaving enemies in the dark. The Alpha Virus was designed to covertly infiltrate an enemy's electronic programming and override its systems of communication and awareness. An encrypted firewall is put in place over individual pieces of technology, such as ships or networked equipment and mechanics. Any source of outward communication through transmissions to relayed waves are blocked and dispersed, redirected to nearby Chiss monitoring equipment. Additionally, the virus spreads through frequency channels that are connected with an affected piece of technology. Other fighters in a squadron are capable or transmitting it to a base ship in its fleet. Different stations are attuned to access the frequency given off, but only by a close distance. More directly, the virus's purpose is to black out scanner readings and most developed sensors. Targeting systems are disabled and pilots are often left with blind fire, relying on sight alone.

The Beta Virus focuses on lethality and destruction in its purpose and intent, acting as an infectious override-hack on smaller systems, such as droids or automated defense systems. The last virus focuses on a less hostile approach. The first program infiltrates an enemy firewall covertly, working at a slower pace to avoid detection by security systems. The virus soon overwhelms the primary functions of the machinery, designed to primarily target a ship's engines and life support systems, or the shield generator and electronic hub connected to a base's defenses. Simultaneously, the virus is spread throughout the fleet-wide comms channel to infect deployed fighters and smaller ships, isolating their sensors and communications from the rest of the fleet.

The second software program, Virus Beta, aims to overtake a machine's central power systems, controlling the distribution and fluctuations of the power source. First and foremost, the virus is designed to redirect the supply of energy so that the machine works at a lower efficiency, originally weakening an enemy while the virus establishes its hold. The redirected power is conserved in a single system of the infected machine, shut down and isolated from the machine's control or programming. Once the virus has fully disabled the droid, the virus implants new orders with a re-designated targeting system, gathering the buildup of energy and releasing it offensively. In most cases, any functioning weaponry is activated in a final burst of usage, resulting in a self-destruct detonation, amplified by the overheating reaction. Ideally, the virus turns most automated machines to Chiss control before destroying itself as an explosive threat. For systems that do not work automatically, but are dually programmed into a network or linked hub of systems, such as the average soldier's helmet and targeting system, or connected weaponry, the equipment most often explodes in the soldiers' possession.

The last and final virus, the Delta Virus, prioritizes with observation and analysis, serving as a transmittable program to monitor and keep records of events and readings. The virus retains records of the systems it infects, downloading all the available information in the technology's design and purpose. Scans and sensor readings are taken and observed, as well as any observation function otherwise used. This allows for hyperspace coordinate jumps to be monitored and followed, just as droids relay their vision, recordings, standing orders, and programmed schematics. Primarily, the virus is meant to remain concealed, hidden from notice unless one knew how to compare the original copy of the virus to an infected hardware system. Without knowledge of the specific program coding, or at least familiar with Chiss technology, it was unlikely the virus could be decrypted.

Chiss Ascendancy Expansionary Shielding Structures

4928550.jpg

Manufacturer: Chiss Engineering Systems
Production Line: Chiss Planetary Shields
Model: Planetary Shield
Technical Weapon Designation: Ascendancy 9522-DG Planetary Shield
Affiliation: Chiss Ascendancy
Availability: Specialized Production
Modularity: No
Composition: (the actual transmitter of the shield)Durasteel, (the shield)Energy.
Ownership: The Chiss Ascendancy

Description:
The Ascendancy 9522-DG Planetary Shield is the best Planetary shield the Ascendancy was capable of producing to protect bases from stellar bombardment. The shield does not prevent large solid matter(I.E. a large machine) from passing through, but smaller solids(I.E. humans and missiles) shall not pass. This difficulty is overcome by the small entrance tunnels made underneath the shield for Chiss and their smaller vehicles to pass through. This tunnels are heavily guarded and designed to be a small bunker. The shield, the best the Chiss Ascendancy can create, is designed specifically to protect both large and small bases from planetary bombardment, something planetary shields in the past were unable to protect from. While still vulnerable to destruction from a Death Star type weapon, sabotage at the power generator, or sabotage from the inside, the 9522-DG shield and all it protects is entirely invulnerable to stellar bombardments.

The 9522-DG transmitters are designed to work together, ten being the average number required to cover a large area of 15,000 meters. The destruction of one will not bring down the entire shield, only weaken the planetary shield at that location. The destruction of two-three key towers near each other will result in the loss of the shield at the surrounding location of the transmitters. All Chiss Planetary Defense Installations are surrounded by the 9522-DG Planetary Shield with the exception of the Alpha Class military Installation.

Classification: Planetary Shield
For Shield
Height: 5,000 meters
Width: 15,000 meters
