THE CASTLE MOON OF LETH

REGION OUTER RIM TERRITORIES COORDINATES S-18 HYPERLANE CORELLIAN RUN (LETH ANNEX) ATMOSPHERE TYPE II

Description

Leth was a gas giant orbiting an insignificant star over a millennia by an executive of MantiCorp. The executive, Nihilengallia Leth, discovered the planet by accident when a trip on the Corellian Run turned to catastrophe when the navigation computer malfunctioned and continued past the last planet on the Corellian Run. Nihilengallia Leth discovered the planet she shamelessly named after herself, the newfound extension to the Corellian Run named the Leth Annex by her subordinates. Seeking her own private retreat, Nihilengallia Leth did not report the planet to the Republic, seeking to establish firm control over the planet before release its existence to the galaxy. She commissioned an army of construction droids and the latest "Terraforming/Habitation Control Tower X-18 "Obelisk", and secretly shipped them to Leth, ordering the master CPU to build a castle the galaxy has never seen before. Over the next decade, efforts to create a castle on the moon were underway, few outside her inner circle privy to Leth and its moon's existence. Whispers eventually circulated of a mystical moon with a majestic castle crept into public eyes, but was shaken off as a legend, just like nryghast and The Scientist Who Dreams of Science.

The castle, now the size of a intermediately-sized city, was ready for reveling. Nihilengallia Leth and her staff, all of those privy to the planet and moon's existence, were called to the moon of Leth to celebrate the completion of the castle. During the gala, Nihilengallia Leth was informed that something was awry. The construction droids weren't shutting down. They were continuing the build. The ManitCorp colonists sought out the CPU at the Dowager's Demesne. The CPU "Archetype" refused to shut down, and viewed the change in orders unacceptable, the programming corrupted by not having parameters for a finished project. Systems deeming the colonists a threat, Nihilengallia Leth and the colonists were annihilated by the droids. The droids cannibalized Nihilengallia Leth's flagship and other starships for electronic infrastructure for monitoring by the CPU and maintaining the habitable zones.

Over the millennia, the rogue CPU's construction droids continued construction of the castle, engulfing the entire planet, designs propagated by the CPU and other droids. As the Castle Moon of Leth neared completion, the Archetype continued to be compelled to construct, tearing down old construction to build anew. It's programming would not bid for an end, and it eventually desires to build further on other worlds. Lacking hyperspace capabilties, Nihilengallia Leth's fleet long since cannibalized for parts, Archetype constructs a communications relay to broadcast a simple message.

"Save us."

Climate & Terrain

Contrast to its inhospitable gas giant planet, the moon of Leth was a rocky ball of minerals and potential. Originally uninhabitable, efforts were made to terraform the moon to become breathable. There are only three breathable pockets on the planet, sites of the only working life support obelisks. Artificial weather has allowed the propagation of imported flora and fauna. Seasons are artificially induced by the obelisks, though the fragility of the system has been demonstrated, due to the storms can become chaotic and have led to multiple habitable pockets to collapse due to the storms' damage to the obelisks.

The terraforming by the MantiCorp droids has transformed the rocky moon into an endless castle. Construction materials were mined from the moon itself, demonstrating its abundance in rocky materials, though has barely any metal ore pockets; the old colonist ships were primarily cannibalized to construct the CPU's mainframe that connects the entire moon together. Few pockets of Kyber crystals have been found on the planet; most have been converted into fuel for the construction droids' operations, leaving little at this point for pillaging.

Points of Interest

The Dowager's Demesne
The Dowager's Demesne is one of the few primarily metallic structures on the Castle Moon of Leth. It serves as the nerve center of the MantiCorp droids' operations and houses the brain of "Archetype". The metal hive is one of the more fortified locations, swarming with construction droids and probes.

The Mezzanine Mesa
The Mezzanine Mesa is an expansive canyon-like component of Nihilengallia's dream castle, though never part of the original design. Serving as a sort of balcony to the primary 'garden river' (long since widened over the centuries), the intent was a relaxing view of the water below and the artificial breeze cast by the mesa. The surreal mezzanine is constantly under maintenance, doomed in the next decade to be rebuilt by the Archetype's grand designs. The communications relay was constructed on the mesa.

The Cloister of Leggodt
The Cloister of Leggodt is a remnant of the original colonial castle, heart of the primary habitable zone. It was named after the primary architect commissioned by Nihilengallia Leth, a Chevin named Kenik Leggodt. The Cloister of Leggodt remains the primary dock for starships, the Archetype's message directing any foolish ships to enter its berth. Due to the Archetype's plan to escape the planet at any costs, construction droids infest the Cloister to deal with any passengers who may object to the procurement of the ship.

Nihilengallia's Epitaph
Deep in the Archetype's coding were blueprints to a tomb for Nihilengallia Leth upon her death. Though she never expected to die when she did, or by the hands of her tomb-makers, her last will and testament was carried out. A massive tomb was constructed to house the remains of the MantiCorp executive, the only colonist to receive such an honor; the remains of Kenik Leggodt and the other colonists were either processed for fuel or their bodies left where they fell. Though clashing with the new designs from the last century, the Archetype is unable to demolish Nihilengallia's Epitaph due to its core coding and tolerates it.

Intent

The Castle Moon of Leth is a place I was seeking to have as site to an upcoming arc tentatively named "The Castle Moon Trilogy", the castle moon inspired by Rose Red and its continued construction past the owner's death, an otherworldly desire to keep building. The trilogy will function in similar function as the 2015 Halloween event "Plague of Dis", where each thread contains a single member from each of the main factions, these characters forced to work together to survive. The fate of the Caste Moon will be determined by the threads. The trilogy revolves around a Mandalorian ship that first arrives on the Castle Moon, followed by a Jedi ship and a Sith ship, the latter two whom fight over the planet and crash to the surface below; Jedi survivors and Sith survivors, along with Mandalorian escapees from the Cloister, join in a survival pact to fight through the dangers of the forgotten moon. The threads will consist of the following:
1. The Mezzanine Mesa: The survivors realize they are not the only ones who received the Archetype's signal. A trio of survivors venture through the Mezzanine Mesa to reach the transmitter and neutralize the signal, though whether someone plans to convert the signal to their own ends is yet to be seen.
2. The Cloister of Leggodt: The Mandalorian vessel had safely landed in the designated cloister, and was immediately greeted by droids. Had they been Republic envoys, they may have been taken off guard when the droids attacked. Instead, most of the Mandalorians have set up a stand to defend their vessel; early in the fight, the engines were damaged, resulting in failure to launch. Five Mandalorians escaped the cloister to seek out replacement parts. They rendezvoused with the Jedi and Sith survivors, where they salvaged the necessary parts from the enemy wreckage. Now one of the Mandalorians, accompanied by a Jedi and a Sith, returns to the cloister to bring this part to their crew so the survivors can escape the Castle Moon. Furthermore, they must prevent the MantiCorp droids from taking over the ship, lest they infect other planets.
3. The Dowager's Demesne: A trio of survivors make their way to the heart of the MantiCorp operations, the Dowager's Demesne. Knowing that the only way to stop the plague of construction droids permanently is to eliminate the leader, the nerve center is targeted, seeking to take out the Archetype. However, the Demesne is by no means defenseless.
