If the Chancellor thought Emryc was all talk at the political social, he was sorely mistaken. Mere weeks after the event, his aide had connected with Emil’s, setting up the very excursion they had discussed. Truthfully, Emryc loved any excuse to be near cold weather and exploring new sports. His attempts at coaxing his partner to join resulted in a complete fail as the man seemingly developed frostbite from simply looking at snow. The half Sephi also took extra measures to ensure media had no clue about this - even he could appreciate the constant attacks the Chancellor took lately.

Emryc found himself at a Chandrila resort with slopes infamous for Hoversledding. He had never tried it before, but he certainly wanted to experience it. He was currently at a stall trying a hot, chocolatey beverage that was a bit too sweet for his tastes. Preferring cold weather, he was adorned in a simple long sleeve shirt and some sporty pants and boots. He also had some winter shades on to hide his recognizable silver eyes. With any luck, he would just be another random tall man in the crowd.

He waited for Emil, poised a short walk away from where the slopes were. His breath came out in clouds as he checked his chrono. Emryc was in no rush, and he was driven more by his genuine curiosity about the sport than anything else. If the Chancellor didn’t show, he would go investigate for himself and try it out.

Emil had not been kidding himself during his half-drunken dance at the last Senate social. He did want to meet with Emryc. He also wanted to take a break from the increasingly toxic galactic political scene. But when the invitation had come into his office that the President was scheduled to visit Chandrila this weekend, and he had requested Emil's presence to fulfill the arrangements they had made, he blinked in surprise. He had to confess to not expecting an invitation this soon, though the gesture wasn't an unwelcome one.

The Chancellor had been considering what to do about the present state of the Republic. It was clear the government needed a new direction, but he wasn't wholly confident in the ability of the Republic Senate to do it. And now they didn't have the friendship of the Jedi. Not that Emil was particularly sad about that part. The Jedi had betrayed his trust. Betrayed all of their trust. Though it meant more work would have to be done to re-secure the Core, Emil told himself not to concern himself with their betrayal any longer.

There were more important matters to turn to.

Namely, the hot thermos he was carrying in his hand. Hot chocolate they called it here. It was one of his favorite Chandrilan beverages. They had it on Coruscant too, but the taste there was too watery. The sweetness of the Chandrilan variant was just to his liking. He came wearing warm clothes: a sweater that was slightly larger than his frame, the way he liked it, and sledding pants paired with snow boots. He would try to remember to put on a heavier jacket once they got out on the slopes, but, for now, Emil was enjoying the contrast of the cold air to the warmth of his belly thanks to the chocolate.

He found Emryc a few paces away from the main slopes. To his surprise, the President hadn't attracted much of a crowd yet, and there was no sign of that infernal cyclops creature that wrote about him on the HoloNet. He wondered if that would change before the day was over. "You certainly know how to surprise a man," Emil said with the barest hint of a grin. He was happy to see Emryc again, all things work-related considered. "There I was, sitting at my office desk, trying to figure out how to cajole thousands of Senators into thinking about the Republic instead of themselves for once without using a cattle prod when your invitation spared me the exercise. For that, I thank you."

He eyed the mug in Emryc's hand. "I see you've already discovered hot chocolate. It's one of my favorites," he said, sipping briefly from his own thermos. "Tastes like ass on Coruscant, but the Chandrilans know a thing or two about sweetness." @Sreeya

Emyrc was still deciding whether or not he liked this ‘hot chocolate’ beverage when Emil made his way over. It took a moment for the half Sephi to recognize him - he wasn’t used to seeing the man in anything outside of very formal clothing. The choice to wear a sweater slightly larger than necessary was surprisingly endearing and flattering on the leaner man. Emryc took another sip of his drink, flashing the Chancellor a grin.

“If they need a cattle prod, they’re not the right ones for the job,” He said simply, “The bigger surprise is that my efforts of keeping media quiet have proven successful thus far,” He looked around, relishing the almost strange experience of being somewhere in public without a swarm around him, “Though I give it..” He glanced down at his chrono, “Maybe an hour before news breaks about how I’m the newest member of your prolific harem.”

Emryc took another sip of his chocolate drink, looking down at the mug to inspect it. He decided he found the concoction acceptable. It wasn’t his favorite, but the warmth contrasted nicely against the biting cold.

“I’m a flexible man,” He said as he began to slowly walk towards the sledding area. He purposely walked slower to allow the Chancellor to keep up, a habit he had picked up since most around him had a tough time, “This can be as much or as little work related as you like,” Emryc meant it too. There was no rigid agenda he brought over, but he couldn’t deny he wanted to understand the man a bit more.

Emryc was exactly right. These Senators weren't the right people for the job. Their loyalty was fickle, their votes lazy and haphazard. He sometimes wondered what it would be like to have a Republic without a Senate. It was a thought he didn't ever air publicly. Not just because it would make him sound like a hypocrite, but because the Palpatine comparisons would never cease if he did. Hell, he might just be voted out of office.

He admired that Emryc didn't seem to harbor such fears. The recent press about the Consortium turning into an Empire barely seemed to faze the half-Sephi. He was a singularity into which the nauseating rumors and speculation of the twenty-four hour news media disappeared and never saw the light of day again. If he could learn to master that kind of confidence, the Republic might actually be seen as something less of a joke again.

But then the President shifted the subject and Emil was thinking about Pootlina again. "Thank the Force for your discretion, Emryc," he said, chuckling slightly. "I don't think the Chandrilans have anti-aircraft weaponry that would shoot down a ship carrying your fanclub, but one might stray too close to the edge of a cliff trying to get a picture of us and end up at the bottom of some ravine."

He meant it to be light-hearted, only to realize that this was probably the first time he had called the President by his first name. Was that presumptuous? Emryc didn't seem the type to care about that sort of thing. Besides, he liked the half-Sephi's suggestion. He wanted this trip to be as work-free as possible. And that meant calling him something other than "Mr. President" all the time.

"There will be other times for work. We both could use a break from the rancor," he said. Though, if anyone needed it, it was him. Emryc thrived amidst the chaos, another skill Emil needed to acquire. "This is your first time hover-sledding, isn't it?"

He turned to glance at a cross path leading to two separate slopes. One was more gentle and was full of families with children shrieking gleefully as they surfed the snow and ice down the mountainside. The other slope was, for lack of a better word, slightly more Olympian. It contained more obstacles, and obstacles he meant sheer drops, jagged boulders, and lots and lots of trees. A rather fitting euphemism for politics, he thought.

He adjusted his gaze back to Emryc with a hint of mischievism in his grin. "Which slope shall it be?" @Sreeya

Emryc was surprised at the Force catchphrase Emil used. He had expected the Chancellor to have quite a sour disposition towards the Jedi and the Force in general since the last session. However, he said nothing about it, genuinely curious about the relationship between the Republic and the Jedi these days. The half Sephi gave a slight grin at the mention of his fanclub, “Perhaps we wouldn’t have this problem if we were simply less interesting,” He took a sip from his chocolatey drink and grinned wider, “Or less attractive.”

He came to a pause between the two slopes, silver gaze eyeing the differences between the two. One of them looked far more imposing than the other. Emryc stood in silence, studying the obstacles, “First time,” He confirmed, “Before this, I thought hoversleds were only used by Hutts,” There was a look of mild fascination in the normally stoic features as he finished his drink and discarded the mug.

“I’m not ashamed to try the easy slope first,” He declared with a shrug. The children, of course, were of various degrees of skill. Some were using the boards to slide down the slope while seated and others attempted to stand while toppling over.

“...Do you stand or sit on them?” Emryc asked, brows furrowing a bit. He decided he would wait for Emil to demonstrate.

Naturally, the only space available was near a very loud and obnoxious family with a small army of children. Emryc’s ears twitched every single time there was an abrupt, shrill yell from a kid or a stern yell from the mother. He half wondered if he could get away with cheating with the Force on the advanced slope if it meant reprieve from the noise...

Emryc Thorne never ceased to be an interesting man. Emil had pegged him as the type to immediately try the more difficult slope. Which meant this day was not going to go down any path the Chancellor had anticipated. As they approached the easier slope, they crossed a stall with boots of varying sizes. Each had soles that were magnetized so that sledders could adhere to the surface of their boards should they choose to stand. Sleds had handrails to hold onto for those who chose to sit. Emil pointed all of this out as they approached the booth.

"It's mostly personal preference," he explained. He told the Bothan woman manning the booth his shoe size and was promptly handed a pair of black sledding boots. "These magnetize to the board and hold you to it. And you shift your weight to control the direction of the sled. I hear surfing on aquatic planets works similarly."

When Emil got his board, he activated the hover function, causing it to rise just above the ground. Then he climbed on top, engaging the magnetism of his boots so that he was locked snuggly into place. "Most people choose to sit on their first round. Easier to control the motion of the sled and much less—" He smirked, remembering his own first time "—vomit. Up to you which you prefer. As for me? I prefer sledding upright!"

Those were really the words he chose right before the disaster. He was going to show Emryc how they worked. More importantly, he was going to show the President he had a skill other than running his mouth in Senate sessions. He got to show Emryc neither of these things. Instead, just as he turned around and engaged the board to launch down what otherwise would have been a breezy slope, an obstacle in the form of a small fish-looking family sled into his path.

He wasn't paying attention. The combination of wanting to show off and the excitement of getting to hover sled again led him to forget the most basic rule of sledding. Always make sure your path is clear. Fortunately, he had a Jedi's reflexes—or so he was told. Unfortunately, the short, quick jerk of the body required to swerve around the family meant careening off course and into the nearest fur tree, where he flopped face down into the snow, legs suspended just above him by the hoversled.

What a glorious way to kick things off. @Sreeya

“You need what size?”

The Bothan woman was sufficiently irritated at Emryc already. Apparently they only had standard humanoid sizes for shoes. They were delayed a bit as the woman glared at him and Emryc vaguely wondered if she was going to charge and ram him.

“Do we have any teen Wookiee sizes?!” She screeched at her assistant. After a bit of a shuffle, Emryc was finally provided something that would suit him - naturally smaller Wookiee sized. He watched what Emil was doing and decided he would try on his feet first. He activated the hover function and was noticeably wobbly. His ears swiveled and almost flattened, betraying that he was definitely not comfortable. However, he didn’t tap into the Force to focus or help him in any way. He was pathetically making his way behind Emil, his enormous weight almost causing him to eat shit a few times. It was possibly the first time the half Sephi looked clumsy, his arms fanning out in an attempt to keep him balanced.

If he thought was doing poorly, Emil was in a league of his own. Emryc looked up to see how he was faring only to see Emil almost collide with an entire family that seemingly materialized out of nowhere. The half Sephi watched with fascination as the Chancellor careened off to the side and promptly collided with a snowbank, his legs hilariously sticking up into the air.

Emryc had no time to process the bizarre display, his own distraction costing him during his already lame performance. He narrowly avoided colliding with a little girl that screeched so loud that his ears almost flattened and his eyes watered. He sped towards Emil’s direction, barely in control of his own movements.

He attempted to slow down and shifted his weight back too much, causing the board to slip out and make him drop right on his rear. Emryc fell with a loud thud right next to Emil, seated on the ground with the board still attached and extended out before him. He groaned as he reached over to grab one of Emil’s legs to bodily hoist him out of the snowback. Emryc grinned down at the other man, still seated and covered in snow.

“If the thrill of this was to eat snow, we could have stopped at the snowcone stall instead,” He remarked. He was going to attempt getting up when he suddenly paused. Emil couldn’t hear it, but Emryc certainly could.

“-I think that was President Thorne and..the Chancellor!” He could hear one of the fish family members screeching about it loudly. He could hear the voices getting closer.

Emryc’s eyes widened, “We have to get off this slope,” He said urgently, “That family recognized us,” He attempted to stand from his position, only to have the board slip out again and send him flat on his back. His second attempt to get up didn’t yield better results. He didn't want to take his board off since plodding through the snow would be much slower, “Help me up,” He asked the diminutive Chancellor who was probably half his weight and still attached to his board.
