DESCRIPTION
The Bunker Lance was an ancient weapon which was the standard sidearm of troops fighting in the trenches of pre-Republic battlefields. Stout, sturdy weapons, they were crafted to counter the heavy body armor worn by most fighting men of the period, which offered excellent protection against most forms of portable ranged weapon available at that time; the solution was essentially a throwback to the age before such things as even slugthrowers, a handheld, lance-like weapon which could be driven into an opponent at close range via a magnetically accelerated ram function, something like a pile-driver. This allowed the weapon to pierce most body armor.

Bunker Lances also had some standoff capability, in the event the wielder was confronted by foes not wearing heavy body armor. Two semi-automatic slugthrowers were mounted in the hilt, firing through the hand-guard of the weapon and capable of inflicting light damage out to around 40 meters. In modern examples that still see active use, these are often replaced by more modern blaster elements, capable of inflicting medium damage out to the same range, while simultaneously not violating regulations on certain planets regarding the legality of slugthrowers. It is also common to apply a phrik plating to these weapons, which gives them resistance to lightsabers and similar weapons.

Bunker Lances were typically carried by formations of infantry on the battlefield, mounted troops on light vehicles or cavalry beasts, or really any soldiers who were expected to come into close contact with the enemy. The widespread adoption of pulse-wave weapons, which could easily pierce the heavy, metallic body armor of the day, led to the phasing out of Bunker Lances in regular service, although outside museum collections, retrofitted examples can still be found in service with backrocket militias.

LEGALITY
Legal. So long as they are retrofitted to remove or replace the original slugthrowers, Bunker Lances technically do not violate most weapon laws on civilized planets, although they would hardly be common to see.

INTENT
To create a suitably unique archaic weapon which might be seen in backwater regions or dug up from ancient ruins. Also to make a new weapon which would be a reward for a character participating in a plot of mine, and who is looking to replace their old lightsaber with something more unique.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. The Bunker Lance is a highly unusual weapon to encounter, and effectively combines melee and ranged combat. Would require a plot to acquire.
