DESCRIPTION
Boxer-class light carrier is the common name given to a type of largely improvised light carrier, commonly seen in service to pirates, insurgents and low-rent mercenaries. Essentially a modified Class-A cargo container fitted with engines and weapons, these craft can be scrapped together out of readily available materials for almost nothing by capital ship standards, and have been a common sight on battlefields across the Galaxy since at least the Galactic Civil War.

Generally speaking, Boxers follow a standard pattern, although the improvised nature of the design leaves a great deal of room for variation. Due to the physical constraints of the Class-A container, the number of craft which can be carried is fairly consistent; modified with a double-decker internal layout, the ship can carry 12 starfighters in 2 double-decker, double-ended hangars, with half of hangar set aside for a pair of shuttles. Without the shuttles, up to 16 fighters can be packed in, although most operators prefer to have the support craft. The ship is typically operated by a crew of around 40, including ground and air crews for the various craft aboard. Although Boxers generally rely on their fighter compliment for protection, a set of fixed heavy turbolasers became a common feature, intended for use in delivering a coup de grâce on a crippled enemy ship, after the aforementioned fighters have stripped it of defensive armament. Until then, however, the Boxer will tend to hang back; a 45 MGLT top speed and only medium shields do not give it good survivability against proper warships.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Boxer-class light carriers are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To create a light carrier suitable for use by pirate gangs and low-budget paramilitaries.

RESTRICTIONS
Boxer-class light carriers are capital ships with heavy weapons, and thus cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. They may be acquired as faction assets, however, or by a group of at least 3 individual characters who work together regularly.
