DESCRIPTION
A bowcaster was a type of traditional, handcrafted slugthrower weapon created by Wookiees. Bowcasters used specialized conductor orbs to energize solid quarrels as they were propelled between them by the weapons firing mechanism, forming the weapons "slugs". The quarrels were contained within special magazines and were stripped off the magazine by the cocking mechanism, which had to be manually reset between each shot. Each bowcaster is unique- a reflection of the preferences and personality of the Wookie who built it. Some were elegantly wood carved with gold inlays, while others were massive chunks of forged durasteel that doubled as good clubs.Unlike most slugthrowers, Bowcasters inflict significant damage. Unfortunately, being designed for Wookies, they were notoriously large, heavy and difficult to operate and boasted a powerful recoil. The cocking mechanism in particular required a significant effort to manually reset between shots, which gives the weapon a slow rate of fire- many human sized and smaller beings had difficulty performing the task at all. The slug also had a tendency to "burn out" and disintegrate at quiet short ranges.
LEGALITY
Bowcasters were classed as ceremonial weapons by many governments, and their ownership was often legal- uncommon for slugthrower weapons- athough open carry on civilized worlds was often restricted. However, Wookies hold the weapons in almost sacred regard, and non-Wookie owners are likely to be interrogated as to how they acquired the weapon if spotted by a Wookie Warrior- those with unsatisfactory answers are liable to have their arms pulled out of their sockets.INTENT
To provide a baseline write up for a popular weapon in Star Wars lore, as well as an example of a non-standard sort of slugthrower that could be had by making use of Advanced Tech rules to bend the normal rules and guidelines (ie; heavy damage slugthrower).
