Kashyyyk
Life Day
09:45

Eva had to admit... even though they lived on a jungle planet, the Wookies knew how to party! There were wrestling matches. There was food! Races! And these guys were massive. And strong. She was still sore from a playful match of wrestling, herself; it had been a very long time since she had tussled with anyone bigger than her husband, but it was a good way to take off the rust, and earn some respect.

In spirit of the holiday, she had discarded the office attire for her old clothing; beneath the Vikingr armor(which still fit like a glove), she was dressed in black leggings, her boots, and a blue tank top of her family colors. And her armor had been cleaned up nicely; she was strapped in with her long blaster, regular old blaster, one vibroblade, and...

She hesitated, staring at the heft of her old axe. It still sat on the table where Half-Dan had left it, along with his fathers' weapons, for them to take with them. Her fingers caressed it, and she smiled once, curling her fingers around the handle.

It had been a few years... but it felt so damn good.

She had mellowed, it seemed. She hefted it in her hands, letting its' familiar weight settle in her arm. Just like she had been taught. But there was time enough for that, and to throw her other two throwing axes. But she holstered it for now, favoring the long blaster.

This was a hunt for big game, after all.

Others would join her on this hunt, she hoped, but meantime... her helmed head tilted towards the one who had stuck it out with her for the long run. The only one in this galaxy she trusted her back, and more to.

Drums pounded; other groups were forming up to delve into the deep forest, Wookies and other mixed groups preparing to jump in and find a suitable catch for the feast. She checked her rifle over, but her voice was warm, almost thrilled with the prospect of the hunt ahead.

"Ready, malmhaus?"

They had a third member, but she wasn't certain of them yet. Perhaps the hunt would forge a new alliance... but meantime, she itched to go down the deep, winding paths. She heard the stories, and did the research of what probably waited down there. She gave a savage smile.

This was going to be entertaining.

Dax leaning on a large rock. Watching the dancing fires glow in the darkness around him. Between the ship sized trees that doted every part of the landscape here. He thought back to so many long years ago. When he partied with Raz and the rest of clan Solus. The mandos that would set fire to the galaxy and bring an end to the Sith Empire. The memory gave him a half smile under his T-visor.

Soon enough however, his mind came back to the present. To being and old man in a strange time of galactic contentment. With no war to fight and no enemy to sunder. The Rau commando passed this time by lending his skills out for freelance work. Normally bounty hunting some kriffer who couldn't pay his debts. However in this case it was the strange surprise of being an extra gun for a couple of wealthy arms company head hunters.

As the woman approached, he stood from his giant leaning post. Now as always. He wore his mando armor, still scared by the years of war with the wizards, both of the dark and the light. At his hips rested his twin quickdraw pistols. On his back, in a double sheath, rested his trusted beskad and the hilt of the last Sith he killed during the fire battle of Yavin. Finally, in his hands. His Westar carbine, a rifle he carried since his first days as a Marauder in service to Mand'alore the chosen. Like his armor it to was scared and pot marked by conflict after conflict.

As the woman approached, Stark if he remembered her name correctly, Dax greeted her. "A fine night for a hunt. If you and your companion are ready ?"

Life day was an odd thing as far as Tagal was concerned.

Part of him didn't like the idea of life day - it seemed so commercial these days. Back when it was mainly just the Wookies and those in the know it was fun but now it seemed that everyone and their dog knew what Life Day was and they were all converging on the Wookie homeworld in order to do some twisted and gamed versions of trials just to say that they had.

... huh.

Maybe he just hated tourists?

That sounded about right.

Still dressed in his armour, modified to remove clan affiliations since he had long since left his clan, Tagal looked around the jungle as he tested the edge of a vibrosword. Of course he was testing it with instruments made for that purpose rather than his hand or something equally as stupid. He was a blacksmith after all, this was his kind of thing.

"I'm ready if you are, Ice-brain." he assured her with a hum, "Think you need the blaster? Thought we were hunting."

Hunting to his mind was a challenge, a test, and those happened best when they were blades or bare hands. Blasters had their place but proving one's mettle in a hunt? Not one of them. He approached at his wife's side, spotting their companion as he spotted them.

... had his wife seriously hired them a karking Mandalorian companion? Had she temporarily decided to see if she could scratch her brain with her axe before thinking up this bright idea?

Well there went any hope of actually having fun on this hunt - back-watching mode activated as far as Tagal was concerned. He didn't recognize the man at least so he wasn't sure if he was going to get shot in the gut as a greeting.

Maybe he wouldn't?

That'd be a bonus.

Just seeing Tagal's hackles raise was a mild amusement at least.

So the Mando wasn't her idea, not really... the guy had been more or less shunted in their direction courtesy of their Wookie hosts, but she found it ironic that one of her husband's former people were in their ranks for the hunt. She anticipated big game, but who knew in these jungles?

But keeping an eye on Tagal was another notion. Perhaps she was proving dishonorable by carrying the rifle. She shrugged, then set it aside, glancing at their companions.

"No guns. This hunt... I vant it to be honorable. Blades only. It vill be interesting." She withdrew one of her throwing axes, shrugging off the rifle and setting it aside. It was an old junker anyways, but she liked it. It was old, rugged and tough, something she could get along with.

Speaking of.

"After you," she gestured to their companion. After all, he had been waiting, it was only fair. After all, she came here to enjoy herself. Having the hunt was only a bonus. It was them versus the wildlife, after all, and she anticipated catching something big.

Dax looked on a moment as the two apparent love birds traded quips. Even from under their visors he could tell the looks of affection were shared. The mando didn't know if they were husband and wife, but could tell they were far more then just partners in business or battle. He missed that feeling himself. But those were memories long forgotten, and he pushed them back into the box and sealed them back away in the depths of his mind.

Dax was very amused however that his presents in the group seem of have put the other mando on edge. Judging by the lack of clan markings, a dar'manda perhaps. In any case it didn't matter the least to the old Rau clan member. He wanted to embrace what would perhaps be his final Life Day. That meant to hunt real prey.

He however scoff as the woman agreed with her partner. "hmm. Leave it to a space viking and a dar'manda to think that a lack of blasters means it more honorable. But if that's how you want to do." He grumbled. Then took off his pistols and his trusted rifle and set them aside. His droid would likely be along to collect them later.

Feeling a little lighter and under prepared now. Dax took the invitation to take point as they moved into the jungle. While he started to walk he moved the lightsaber hilt to a clip on his belt and pulled his beskad to be ready in his left hand. "I'm getting to old for this poodoo." He grumbled quietly to himself.

Ah blades...

Did Tagal want to do the hunt with blades for honour? He smirked behind his helmet at the suggestion - his wife had amusing ideas about honour but, well, Tagal was the last person in the galaxy to talk to about honour.

"You can keep your honours for yourself, wife." he assured her with a tilt of his helmet, "I want the blade because it's more fun."

The thrill of the hunt when it was done with the blade and your own power? It was something above the thrill that could be obtained with a blaster. Blasters were efficient, blasters were brilliant but blasters didn't let him get right up close and tear his kill apart.

Still, because it wasn't about honour to him, Tagal didn't discard his blasters. He just kept them holstered; just because he wanted to have fun, didn't mean he wasn't prepped for things to go sideways.

Things had a habit of going sideways after all.

"Who wants to make a bet?" he asked the group as they pushed forwards, "Credits for the most kills."

She snorted in amusement at the Mandalorian commenting on her husband as dar'manda; but he followed her example, and still took up point.

"Oh, honor is only part of it, husband." She smirked beneath her helm, icy blue eyes glittering in amusement. "I also prefer my kills up close and personal." When she heard her husband make his bet, however, she lightly nudged him with her cybernetic shoulder teasingly, hefting one of her throwing axes with the other as she took up the rear of the group.

"Nei… because I'll win anyways. Loser swabs the deck with a toothbrush."

For some reason, this reminded her of when they were first adjusting to life as partners; they had tracked down two Nexu in a warehouse... it was that same feeling. The feeling of being watched, as they were slowly swallowed by the forest. The celebration sounds and drums were fading off into the distance, and all became dappled and dark.

Far off, dyr capered off into the depths of the wilderness, too far to toss an axe at. The occasional Mykal looped far above, and the buzz of a distant can-cell added to the silent ambiance of the forest. With a private link to her husband, Skuld spoke through their comms.

"I'll make you another bet; that boy of ours will probably bring chaos with his wrestling skills." She chuckled once, then paused, cocking her head to listen. An old instinct prickled to the fore, not yet ready to leap into action. Something that waited for opportunity to strike.

"I blame your good genes for that."

He would not give voice to it. But he was understanding perfectly now how these two had found one another. Part of him, the warrior in him, wanted to agree with them. But Dax had quieted that voice some time after Yavin. Now he was more pragmatic about his hunting and killing of others. Or at least he felt like he was.

As he listened to the two of them, it suddenly struck him. He was point man merely by way of walking down the path first. But it felt more and more like he was the bait to this blood thirsty couple's wild hunt. He should of been irritated by that but it only brought up the memory of his First Life day, hunting with clan Solus. A young snot nosed marauder, baiting a group of Trando poachers.

Dax gave and deep and amused laugh then. To his hunting partners he may of been amused with the bets, but in truth it was the antics of his fellows from so long ago. But this unintended distraction was a mistake. He could feel it on the hairs on the back of his neck.

To late.

"Hold..." He grunted. His words cut short. The head of a snake the size of a speeder bus shot out from the thick ground cover. He could feel himself being lifted upward as the jaws of the creature tried to close around his bulky armor. The mando jammed his beskad into the snout of the snake. Holding onto the hilt of the blade of his life, trying to buy himself a second to activate his jetpack.
