DESCRIPTION
The Bident-class corvette - commonly referred to as the "light corvette" - is a small capital ship which was originally developed by Rendili StarDrive for the Galactic Empire. Deigned as a heavy customs enforcement ship, it served the Empire well, and was subsequently passed on to various planetary and sector governments after the rise of the New Republic. It continues to be used in many parts of the Galaxy well into the present day, and remains the bane of smugglers everywhere.

The Bident vaguely resembles its much larger Star Destroyer cousins in profile, but with a significant notch taken out of its forward hull, resulting in a pair of long mandibles. These mandibles, rather than a simple aesthetic choice, are an integral part of the ship's design; the space between them is such that a light freighter can be docked between them, at which point it can be locked in place to prevent any chance of escape. This facilitates easy boarding and inspection of suspect ships. Vessels marked for inspection can be subdued with tractor beams, or if necessary with the corvette's battery of 6 medium laser turrets.

Though most prominently used by in-system law enforcement, Bident-class corvettes do have other uses. During the waning years of the Galactic Empire, examples of the type were pressed into service as commerce raiders, performing hit-and-run attacks on the Rebel Alliance/New Republic's supply lines and rear echelon units. Though never intended for such action, it was found that Bident-class vessels could extend their range by taking supplies from the freighters they ran down. These exploits have led to the class being highly prized by modern pirates and other criminals.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Bident-class corvettes are classified as small capital ships under Galactic law. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To bring a ship from Legends canon into our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Bident-class corvettes are capital ships, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. These vessels may be used as faction assets, or can be operated by a group of at least 3 player characters who work together regularly.
