DESCRIPTION
The BFF-1 bulk freighter is a heavy container ship jointly produced by the Damorian Manufacturing Corporation, Phylon Freight and the Aratech Repulsor Company. One of the most important vessels in the Galactic shipping ecosystem, the BFF-1 moves vast amounts of cargo over interstellar distances. Despite its age, the design having originated during the Galactic Civil War era, the BFF-1 continues to be a staple of long-haul shipping routes across the Galaxy.

The BFF-1 is a simple design, essentially a set of crew quarters and engines to which containers are attached. The ship has a crew of 10, and has consumables for up to 8 months in space. Though equipped with shields, the ship does not have any defensive weapons, requiring it to be escorted by armed vessels through any dangerous regions it must pass through, which it typically does as part of a large convoy. Performance is about standard for a ship of its size, limited to 15 MGLT in terms of maximum sublight speed, with sluggish maneuverability and a class 4 hyperdrive.

Unlike most freighters, the BFF-1 cannot carry any cargo, at least not internally. The ship's entire purpose is to serve as an propulsion system for up to 4 Class-A cargo containers, which attach to the outside of the ship on special brackets. Being specifically designed to handle these large containers, the BFF-1 suffers none of the performance penalties associated with hauling them.

LEGALITY
Legal. Container ships such as the BFF-1 are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.

INTENT
To create a standard container ship.

RESTRICTIONS
Though not especially rare, BFF-1 bulk freighters can carry a phenomenal amount of cargo, and are not ideal for personal ownership, as they are much more expensive to maintain and operate than a standard light freighter. They are typically faction assets, although they could also serve as the focal point of a player run business venture.
