Bakura, a rich green-and-blue planet, is the third and only habitable of the eight planets within the Bakura system that orbits its central star Bakura. The system is situated on the borders of the Outer Rim and the Unknown Regions of the Galaxy. Located on the tail ends of the Bakura Trace and Shiritoku Way trade hyperlanes—the effective terminus of these hyperlane trade routes—Bakura is sometimes seen as being the end of the line for the Galaxy or one of the gateways into the Unknown Regions.

Bakura's capital city Salis D'aar is known as an important financial centre for the sector, while the planet itself, due to the convergence to two trade routes, serves as one of the largest commercial hubs in the Outer Rim. That is facilitated by the spaceport located within the capital city, and the former Imperial holding station, that has since been repurposed into an orbital shipping hub.

Bakura is a terrestrial world with a diameter of 21,400 kilometers, possesses two moons, a moderate hydrosphere, and gravity 1.05 times standard. It is the only world within its system with a breathable atmosphere. Bakura boasts a temperate climate tending to be mild with abundant cloud cover and high levels of rainfall, once likened by Senator Organa as being very similar to Alderaan, but wetter.

Bakura's terrain included forests, plains, mountains, and some key urban centres, all of which received a great deal of rain. The planet's three major continents were Braad, Prytis, and Kishh'daar; in the western hemisphere, Prytis and Braad both featured Namana plantations, and Prytis also boasted an abundance of arable land, extensive agricultural regions, and mountain ranges with mines and quarries. Kishh'daar was in the eastern hemisphere.

Bakura was first settled by the Bakur Mining Corporation, an exploratory mining consortium that sought to develop the planet's crystal and metal deposits. The first Bakuran settlers arrived equipped with food, seed, tools, and some advanced building materials, although they hoped to use the planet's considerable natural resources to survive. As was typical in colonization efforts, the Bakurans relied on droids, especially labour drones, to assist in the construction of homes and buildings. However, the droid complement of the colony ship had been sabotaged by the H'Lokk Consortium, a rival of the Bakur Corporation that aimed to cause enough hardship for the Bakur Corporation's colonists to force their withdrawal from Bakura, allowing a nearby H'Lokk colony to annex the planet.

The H'Lokk Consortium's saboteurs introduced a minor virus into the Bakuran colonists' labor droids. The virus program was intended to force the droids to sabotage as many colony operations as possible, but an error in the program's code removed many of the droids' failsafes, wiping out non-aggression mandates. During the early weeks of colonization, the droids carried out a massacre that nearly wiped out the original colonists. As a direct result of this, droids have been subject to extreme distrust and are widely outlawed.

The Bakur Mining Corporation's colonization of Bakura was considered the official founding of the planetary civilization. At first, the Corporation directly controlled the planet, but after a period of lessening returns of the mining operations and an increase of both population and wealth, a government comprising a Governor and Senate was established. However, this system of government was not truly representative; the titular head of government was always typically a role that was inherited from within the political class structure of the planet.

Within the planet's ancient history, there was records and mention of a 'Crimson Menace'—a supposed Jedi who openly lead a campaign of senseless massacres and acts of terror upon the founding populace. The attacks upon the populace at the time had not only crippled and nearly brought the planet's economy to the brink of collapse, but had left a dark scar on the planet. So taboo had the site of the massacre became, that it was abandoned and left for nature to reclaim. At present day the site has now since grown into a large forest on the outskirts of the capital city, and an annual day of celebration is observed, marking the death of the Crimson Menace at the hands of those who represented the ancient First Sith Empire founded by Andraste.

In more recent history, during the Clone Wars, although initially neutral in the conflict Bakura aligned themselves with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, where a Separatist base was established on Bakura. During the final years of the Clone Wars Bakura was opened to outside settlement, after which immigration caused the population to triple within a decade. In spite of Bakura's demographic and economic advantages, political infighting prevented the Bakuran Senate from governing effectively, and for decades Bakura's social and economic issues went ignored.

Bickering among the ruling upper classes had always been an issue, but grew stronger as years went on. It reached the point where the Bakuran Senate could not agree on matters as simple as school schedules, and it was believed that the planet was on the brink of civil war, making Bakura an easy target for Imperial forces.

Bakura's reputation of a successful producer of repulsorlift coils attracted the attention of the Galactic Empire. The Human inhabitants of Bakura maintained a modest economy by exporting repulsorlift coils to the Empire. Annexation by the Empire allowed Bakura to send more goods to the Outer Rim Territories and other regions, greatly improving Bakura's economy, and causing the cost of importing goods to fall. The government of Bakura remained intact, but the Governor and the Senate were made answerable to the seated Imperial Overseer.

An Imperial orbital prison was also stationed around Bakura. It contained miscellaneous enemies of the Empire and several Rebel prisoners from the planet Hoth. However, after the fall of the Empire, the orbital prison was converted into an orbiting trade hub and star port to facilitate the growth of Bakura's economy.

Despite the end of their Imperial occupation, the vast majority of Bakurans were shown to have been ambivalent about the Empire (perhaps partly fuelled by their passive religion). They acknowledged that Imperial control had ended their near-disastrous infighting, and their only major gripe was the increased taxation. It was perhaps due to this ambivalent regard to Imperial occupation that Bakura held out little resistance and were more receptive to the Rise of the First Order, seeing that Imperial control would once again curb the infighting, as well as greatly improve Bakura's economy.

In the wake of the final fall of Emperor Palatine and the Final Order, Bakura fell into a state of obscurity within the Galaxy and left to its own devices, whilst of course with the lack of Imperial occupation and the demand for their primary exports falling their economy had since shrunk over the decades following the last Galactic Civil war. Resulting in Bakura once again being overlooked as a backwater planet on the edge of the known Galaxy.

Bakura's only native sentient species was the Kurtzen, a pale, hairless humanoid species, although its most populous sentient species are Humans (who composed the other 95% of the population). Most Bakurans are independent-minded and proud of their planet.

The majority of the population follow the Religion of the Cosmic Balance, A belief structure that was based on the tenets that every action in the universe had an equal and opposite reaction elsewhere. If someone had good luck, at the same time, someone would have an equal amount of bad luck. If two people fell in love, elsewhere two lovers were separated. If one person found three credits, then another person would lose three credits at the same time.

The droid rebellion orchestrated and engineered by the H'Lokk Consortium caused the death of many Bakurans. This has engrained a deeply-rooted distrust of droids and artificial sentients, all of which are widely banned from public use, with the only exceptions being made for the use of protocol droids for governmental purposes only—even then their use is extremely regulated and subject to constant scrutiny.

The Bakuran government has for its history traditionally leaned towards Centrist ideals, historically affiliating themselves with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the Galactic Empire, and then with the First Order. Like many worlds spread throughout the galaxy, Bakura has a hereditary class structure that resembles a caste system broken down into various key trades and sectors within the planet.

The more prominent is that of the Political class, where those raised and educated from a young age within the Bakur Academy for a lifetime of service within the inner circles of governance would often find themselves inheriting the position and role that their parents once held—that is of course unless the family has been striped of their title, or the incumbent Governor of Bakura decides that a member of the government would be best suited overseeing a different aspect of the planet's governance.

A Bakuran power station

Bakura has a decent amount of natural resources, that has allowed for the development of a significant agricultural sector owing to the large native Namana tree plantations. Whilst the planet does have metal and crystal deposits, albeit not particularly rare ones, Bakura's refinery and mining industries are predominantly located on the orbiting moons.

Bakura's primary industry is it manufacture of repulsorlift coils, which contribute to it's chief export. Secondary industries and exports are tools, equipment, and furniture that make use of repulsorlift coils, as well as various food and wine products that have been cultivated from the Namana harvests.

Technologically speaking, Bakura is as advanced as the rest of the galaxy on average. Perhaps in addition to their specialisation in repulsorlift technology, it is noted that Bakurans were masters of organ replacement, explaining why so many of them lived far longer than most Humans throughout the galaxy.

However despite this and due to the General disapproval of droids, it should be noted that droid technology is prohibited, and the possession of droids was only allowed with official permission, and the use of heavily regulated permits and strict controls in place for off world travellers, often resulting in droids being confined to their ships when on Bakura.
