DESCRIPTION
The Baas-class space station is a deep-space depot platform manufactured by Durastar Construction and originally designed for the Galactic Empire. Among the most common Imperial space platforms, Baas-class stations were scattered throughout the Galaxy, mostly along secondary or tertiary hyperlanes which did not already have a built-up infrastructure. They served as supply stations for the Imperial Navy, later serving the New Republic in the same capacity. In the present day, many are still in place, although they have mostly reverted to the control of regional governments or commercial interests.

The standard Baas-class space station is 900 meters in length, just short of a star destroyer in terms of size, with an optimum crew of 350 personnel, although a skeleton crew of 40 can run the station if need be. Of this 350, up to 100 are security personnel, although this level of security is generally seen as overkill these days. In addition to crew, up to 200 passengers can be accommodated on the station at any given time, plus up to 1,000,000 standard tons of cargo and consumables for up to 2 years. For defense, the station has no integrated weapons, although it does have heavy shields and a complement of 4 starfighters.

The Baas-class station has an interesting history. The first example was designed in response to an Imperial requirement for a low-cost, rapid-deployment supply depot to service fleet operations, various corporations being invited to submit their concepts for consideration. Durastar Construction was something of an outlier in the competition, but surprised everyone by constructing their prototype within a span of just 25 standard days, a feat that thoroughly impressed the Imperial evaluators. The contract was given to Durastar in short order, with a substantial investment in the company being made by the Empire in order to boost their production capacity for the hundreds of orders that were to come. Durastar was catapulted from a minor firm to a major Galactic player in the construction industry within a matter of months, a position it holds to this day.

Baas-class space stations, owing to the vast numbers that were commissioned by the Empire, are still fairly common in the present day, scattered throughout the Galaxy. Though originally purely military installations, most have been given over to various civilian roles in the present, serving commercial traffic in addition to sector patrol fleets and law enforcement. Not a small number have become wholly commercialized, serving as privately owned way-stations and even deep-space trade hubs for all manner of cargo, both legal and illicit.

LEGALITY
Legal. Baas-class space stations. are fairly basic structures, and carry few legal restrictions.

INTENT
To create a common type of space station found throughout the Galaxy, and to bring an item from Legends canon into our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Baas-class space stations are fairly common, but are not easy or cheap to obtain. They are typically faction assets, although they could also serve as the focal point of a player run business venture.
