DESCRIPTION
The BA-10 as a astromech droid design by Blackwell Automata, the droid arm of Blackwell Technologies, to muscle their way into the market against the popular R-series and other competition. The BA-10's versatility and utility designation are both the result of inspiration from ancient utility droid models from before simpler astromechs were the norm. They're surprisingly durable, heavily shielded against electrical discharge and extremes in temperature, and could survive a near miss from an ion cannon.Unlike their fellow astromechs BA-10 droids move around using a powerful repulsorlift system, giving them superior maneuverability and the coveted ability to quickly navigate stairs. Their speed is comparable to the average probe droid, though BB models may outpace them in a straight race. They're equipped with the usual collection of maintenance and repair tools and are versatile workers, capable of working on a broad variety of tasks. BA-10s can communicate directly with and run diagnostics on myriad computer systems, as well as affect physical repairs and calibrations even to complex drive systems and other machines. The tool arms are sealed beneath the head segment on a rotating ring, the head itself lifting up to reveal the arms. A panels on the sides of the droid slide to reveal rocket boosters the droid uses to maneuver in space, as repulsors don't function outside a gravity well, but are otherwise equivalent to the jetboots armour function.
Several features differ from the competition. It is equipped with more varied sensor equipment than most astromechs, allowing for greater utility. It has a heavy lifting mag-clamp on the bottom that allows it to carry crates, droids, and other such equipment. It also features a stun prod arm for defense, equivalent to a common stun baton in power. On the right side of the droid's head is a panel that conceals a socket for adding other pistol-equivilant weaponry. This is usually something like a stun pistol as the BA-10's programming prevents it from firing a weapon that could harm organics, although it can be illegally modified to bypass that restriction. It also has an impressive holodisplay beneath a top cover on its head, allowing for large, close detail, and full colour projection. The droid can also be purchased with a charging socket that also allows it to serve as a direct link and administrator for connected systems.
Like most astromech droids, BA-10s can function as a substitute for a dedicated navicomputer aboard hyperdrive-equipped starships. BA-10s are also capable pilots for both atmospheric and aerospace vehicles. BA-10 droids cannot speak most organic languages, although they can understand them. They instead vocalize in droidspeak, or through text when connected to an external network or vehicle. BA-10 units are quick to develop more distinct personalities, especially if not subjected to regular memory wipes.
LEGALITY
Legal. Astromech droids such as the BA-10 series are permitted in most regions of the Galaxy.INTENT
