If there's any chance of making an elite fighter squadron (i.e. Rogue Squadron without all the freedom to do what they want) I have a character idea that might work. Also, wanted to know if anyone would be interested. If not that's cool.

Make a separate thread with the suggestion in detail please. Preferably in the Story OOC section.

Maybe. I think I´may say that in space engagements, if somebody with a char in the enlisted corps really wants to participate they can fly in or command fighter squadrons. It may be something to consider, although it won´t be Rogue squadron, it would be an actual organised Repulic FC. Having said that, given fighters don´t have hyperdrives and therefore need to have larger ships transporting them, it might be easier just to say whoever commands a given capital ship NPCs it´s fighters.

I don´t see why it can´t go in the Republic board, if it´s a part of the Republic. Maybe not what this thread is for though.

Another common trick is having a a few separate fighter squads (usually NPC'd by one char who is the squad lead), and then having all or some of the other fighters NPC'd by one guy, and all or some of the capital ships NPC'd by another. It's a bit more in line with the cannon setup, however it's also a bit of a pain to pull off, cause you've got to have enough people online thruout the battle and the waiting can get out of hand.

Personally, I usually find that it's best to have two or three ship commanders in a battle. One guy leads the major battle, watching, thinking, planning etc. The other commanders command smaller flotillas within the main battle group who are independently acting/thinking, but still under the command of the main commander. This way, you have multiple viewpoints, as well as multiple ways to adjust a strategy, and far more lee-way for advancement thru a fleet command structure. Or, if you're playing imp, a far easier way to get executed if things go wrong :P

To an extent, we might want to pull the same setup with ships and fighters. Maybe a ship commander commanding 2/3rds the ships, then a secondary commander, who commands the rest and the fighters. Or maybe a third/forth guy (same, 2/3rds, 1/3rd devision) leading the fighters, but it could be a pain that way if we're having issues with members being inactive or away for a while.

Groundside, however, there should always be at least two people playing. One guy to randomly jump into the fray and start hacking away, while another guy to sit back and laugh at the dumbass while actually planning how to fight the battle (one front-line general person to lead the troops, one guy who sits in back and plays strategic commander for the other guy >.>).

For more concepts about working with this setup, or just to bounce ideas off me, I suggest we do it by PM. [sarcasm]We don't want too many good concepts leaking out to the religious fanatics, now do we ^.^ [/sarcasm]
