DESCRIPTION
The AT-ST, known formally as the All-Terrain Scout Transport or derisively as the Chicken Walker, is a light combat walker manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards, and originally developed for the Galactic Empire. One of the most feared war machines in the Imperial arsenal, the AT-ST was a relatively fast, nimble machine whose value was as much its psychological impact as its combat ability. Designed for reconnaissance and patrol duty on rough terrain, it is intended to scout ahead of attacking forces, as well as to exploit breakthroughs of the enemy lines made by heavier vehicles such as the AT-AT. In Imperial service, it was also used to terrorize local populations and deal with events like riots and insurgencies.

The AT-ST is well armored, with a duranium carapace capable of shrugging off most small arms fire. It has a crew of 2, including a driver and a gunner, plus a single passenger with fairly cramped accommodations. Up to 200 kilograms of cargo can be carried internally, although the AT-ST can carry or pull large loads externally as well. Armament consists of a pair of medium blaster cannons mounted in the chin, plus a pair of light blaster cannons in a cheek-mounted turret. There is also a grenade discharger with a 20-round capacity, the ammunition of which can be lethal or non-lethal depending on who loads the ammunition. Over level ground, the AT-ST can run at speeds up to 90 kph.

Notably, despite their powerful weapons, thick armor and imposing appearance, AT-STs do have a few weaknesses. Like most walkers, they can be brought down by tripwires or other entanglements, although these must be especially sturdy as most AT-STs are equipped with foot-mounted wire cutters. The walker's vision ports, as well, are particularly wide, and it is possible for a sharpshooter to get a blaster bolt or other projectile through the opening, potentially killing crew-members and/or damaging controls or other systems. Due to its imposing height, as well, not much thought was given to protecting the AT-ST from above; if a being were able to get on top of the walker, it is relatively straightforward to force the hatch open with the right tools, or with brute strength if one is strong enough; beware, of course, as an alert crew may attempt maneuvers to shake off any unwelcome boarders.

The AT-ST served the Empire well, its intimidating appearance and good combat power proving well suited to the terror tactics used by much of the Imperial military to reinforce their control over subject populations. After the Empire's fall, however, the New Republic quickly abandoned the use of such tactics, and the AT-ST was largely retired from their service. Many remain in use with various local governments and mercenary groups, however, and they can also be found on the black market, being a favorite of bandits and other criminals.

LEGALITY
Restricted. The AT-ST is indisputably a military vehicle. Civilian ownership is heavily regulated on most worlds.

INTENT
To create a standard combat walker.

RESTRICTIONS
AT-STs are powerful military vehicles, with sturdy construction and enough firepower to decimate whole squads of infantry and even light vehicles. They cannot be owned by individual characters, but can be acquired as a faction asset.
