Backwater Worlds, and Backroom Deals

Nal Hutta, the Vesajilic Estate
Home of Nor'baal Vesajilic Diori the Elder

OOC: Note that this is a social non-violent thread taking place in secret between myself and Ecclessey.
Deep within the confines of the Palace, a simple tower strutting out of the swamps on Nal Hutta, Nor'baal watched as a small yacht approached, bearing his guest from another planet. He had not received a guest in many months, since his self imposed exile, his period of medical recovery. The only other people he had spoken to had been his closest allies, in closed comm-links, but never in person. Today, he had made an exception to that rule, after his Agent Mar Kreeta had suggested he meet the man now approaching.

He made his way to the platform on the roof of the tower, accompanied on this occasion by a few dozen Guard Droids relics of the Cold War, very cheap, and easy to get hold of here in the heartlands of the Cartel. Why this man, this 'Lorso' wished to meet him he could not fathom, but he would hear the man out - for maybe there was a deal to be struck. Nor'baal lit a cigar, the traditional Hutt values once again coming into play, Crime - or as the Hutts said 'business' - was in his nature, and it was not something he could deny for ever.

Find strength, secure payments, bully your way to the top. A true mogul, a Hutt Trade Prince, that is what he was destined for, and perchance Mr Lorso could aid in that dream....

The yacht tested everyone's patience as it landed and lowered the ramp in unbearable slowness. Davik and Jana were the only passengers on the borrowed yacht, besides ofcourse the droids that would find their memory wiped before yapping to anyone about this meeting. Davik was granted an audience with the Hutt that had sponsored and kickstarted all of his success and needless to say he was honored. He owed his new position in the cartel to master Nor'baal as he owed him his life.

As he descended the ramp he laid his eyes, for the first time, on the Hutt and his rumored bad medical shape. On Nar Shaddaa they were already calling him Nor'baal one-eye and half-brain, but all Davik saw was his indirect benefactor. Mar Kreeta's boss, thus also his boss. In that capacity and to the former security guard Nor'baal was the most powerful Hutt there was. Wearing formal attire, as he thought was custom with meetings like this, Davik approached the Hutt with slow steps as he played with a silver coin in his right hand.

"Master Nor'baal." the cartel enforcer bowed "It's an honor" and he gave the Hutt the silver coin, which had the image of an Energy Spider engraved on both sides. The spider they made Glitterstim from and Davik harvested on the newly acquired asteroid called Kessel.

Watching as the Yacht touched down, with agonizing slowness, Nor'baal tutted impatiently, before stopping by way of politeness as the man stepped out. Darvik Lorso, a man that up until now he had only seen in pictures, emerged from the vessel. Nor'baal new the mans past, his association with the KES, and had taken his duty to the KES personally, saving Davik from the foolishness of his leaders, and building him a new life in the Cartel for him.

Davik had even dressed for the occasion, which made the Hutt smiled. Taking the silver coin from the man, and observing it, the energy spider carved into one side, proof of the mans successes. A good investment, he thought, before speaking to the man in basic ''Welcome to Hutta Mr Lorso, please, come inside.'' he turned guiding the man into the tower.

Once inside, he spoke once again, ''You have done well here, and as we are alone, you have done well in your new life we made for you. Tell me, what now do you desire? Why do you come the Vesajilics?''

Davik felt insignificant next to the Hutt as they walked alongside each other. Nar Shaddaa was filled with rumors surrounding the halfheaded Hutt, or Nor'baal one-eye as they affectionally called him. No one ever said that out, though, as Nor'baal was the boss of backroom deals and the only Hutt you took into account.

"I came here to meet the architect of the flawless invasion plan and to pay my respects. I was hoping that you would aid me in running the spice out of those mines" Davik spoke in flawless Huttese.

Meanwhile Jana was offloading presents for the Hutt and among them were rare cigars from a destroyed world and delicacies that were supposed to be a real treat to Hutts. It was Davik's way of making a good impression. @Nor'baal

Allowing himself a slight smile at the mans complements, Nor'baal walked with the man into the main room of the tower, a dark place that fitted in with the Hutts sensibilities. Those with the same spectral range of vision as a Hutt would be able to the intricate designs and decorations on the walls, another one of the Hutts vices.

Davik was a good man, not only to bring gifts that appealed to the Hutt, but also to bring a business deal with him also. The spice mines for example had always held a special interest in the Hutts Greedy Heart, he himself had started the training and planning to take the mines for the Cartel before his injury.

Nodding, the Hutt spoke ''I know of sufficient smugglers who could aid you, alongside this I can of course assist in getting the goods smuggled in larger amounts using merchant fleets.'' before turning around the face the man, stubbing his cigar our as he did so. As with all deals, there were two sides ''But, of course, what is the price you will pay for my aid?''

There is was, Davik thought, the one thing that made Hutts important in this galaxy: the endless succesful pursuit of credits. There was only one argument Davik dared to voice "a boost to your reputation as a loyal member of the cartel" he spoke once again in perfect Huttese and retrieved another coin from his pocket. Nor'baals troubles with the lordas, especially since they ignored the attack on his life despite setting at the same time a dangerous precedent to condone Hutticide, was no secret and something Davik was willing to exploit.

Ofcourse, Norbaal knew of Davik's past but couldn't prove that Lester DeWitt was still alive or that Davik was him. And Nor'baals credibility was completely gone, as long as he didn't put his resources to work for the cartel in a selfless manner. He threw the coin into the air and caught it as it came down again, allowing the Hutt time to think. @Nor'baal

Nor'baal turned away from the man, who had - in the eyes of the Hutt - failed to offer a fair deal. Reputation, what use was that for Nor'baal? He already had one, admittedly one that had been damaged following the attempt on his life, but one that clearly Davik was needing to use, hence his being here. The Hutt had contacts across the Galaxy, but - for once - he decided to humor the man.

''Indeed, sponsoring such a venture brought me great prestige, for the invasion of Kessel was after all, of my design.'' stated the Hutt, his mind working wonders to turn the situation to one of mutual gain ''It would do me no harm to sponsor the shipping as well, provided of course that certain fees could be paid in recognition of my services.''

An idea had occurred to him, based on an old plan he had acted out in Jiguuna many years hence. ''How about you and me make a little arrangement, bring together the various interested parties on Kessel, in the 'Kessel Conglomerate'. Bring together the agencies of Kessel, the smugglers, the miners groups and the refiners into one group, for greater profit.'' he smirked a bit, the promise of profits building up in his mind. ''You oversee the mines, as you do now, with little or now resistance from smuggling contractors, and I head up the Conglomerate itself, as 'Director', ensuring our smugglers follow their orders, the mines meet their quotes, and the Credits keep flooding in!''

All this Hutt talked about were fees and promotions and Davik was beginning to think his friendly visit and all the effort he put into finding those gross things for the slug to eat were wasted on the exiled Hutt. He forgot that his network wasn't the biggest in the galaxy, but that the cartel was holding all the cards on Kessel and in Hutt space. Davik was an extension of the Lordas, whom he would probably never meet, and he had no intention of aligning himself that closely to the only Hutt whose hutticide is condoned by the lordas. He was offering Nor'baal a way back into the cartel, not offering a piece of the cartel to him.

Davik threw the coin into the air for the second time and caught it easily before he replied to Nor'baals proposition. "No disrespect meant, oh generous Hutt, but I see no upside in founding a conglomerate. Everything on that barren asteroid is already property of the cartel. Mines, slaves, refineries and transport. It won't even cause a Gamorrean a headache to manage them." Davik now turned to face the Hutt "I came here to personally congratulate you on your invasion plan and offer you a way back into the cartel's good graces. For reputation is everything." @Nor'baal

He would be lying if he said that the mans gumption and wit did not impress him, but Nor'baal was prone to lying anyway. He smirked a bit as he looked at the man, for the Hutt had an offer to make. Nor'baal could think of many ways in which he could get himself back into the Cartel - indeed he never really had left - and many of those methods could easily involve exposing Mr Lorso for who he truly was in the process. A conglomerate was one way of obtaining a profit from the mines of Kessel, but not the only one Nor'baal had considered.

''Thank you for your congratulations Mr Lo...DeWitt.'' he smiled, using the mans real name by way of confirming that he was quite aware of the mans past. ''But like it or not you require my help, more than I require this little reputation boost.'' the Hutt finished before facing one of the viewing ports out of the tower, over the vast, and in his eyes beautiful, swamps around his home.

Indulging the man yet further, Nor'baal spoke ''I won't not help you, but I shall do business with you. Credits are much better than guns, they're the best weapon in the Galaxy, and more important - I like 'em. So....'' he took out a cigar, and offered it to Mr Lorso, before lighting one for himself ''....for a cut of the goods, I'll get my guys to help you out, get you a route right into the Empire, as well as all over the other space lanes.''

Taking out the coin he had been given by Mr Lorso, he held it up, covering the sun of his home-world as it beheld it. ''Lovely things these energy spiders, great for business.'' he said whimsically, awaiting the mans reply, so that they could move onto discussing more important matters.

Davik was unamused, not only did the Hutt implicitly threaten him by saying his real name but he also assumed he needed the slugs help to get spice into Imperial planets. He didn't need anything as a spice dealer always had a few cards up his sleeve on every planet. Human nature, after all, had its cravings for escapism only spice can provide. Davik let a few moments pass after accepting the cigar and ignored the landscape in order to appear rude without actually being it.

"If you can get the spiders all the way into Darth Sato's tea on the planet of Ziost, you'll have earned those credits." He stated as he threw the coin through the cigar smoke in the air and caught it.

He pondered if he had to return the threat by once again stating that Nor'baals Hutticide would be the only one the Lordas couldn't care less about. Perhaps he would make a jest about poison when the Hutt started eating his gifts. All those guard droids for nothing. @Nor'baal

The lack of pleasure on the mans face was agonizingly obvious, and Nor'baal found it amusing. Like it or not, Nor'baal had made Davik who he was, literally, and it was important the man remembered it now - when it mattered. Listening as the man accepted Nor'baals deal, the Hutt nodded, by way of acceptance also.

The deal was struck.

''Good. Mr Lorso you have a shrewd head on your shoulders and no mistake.'' he stated, blowing out a cloud of smoke as he did so ''Let us move to other business, namely your place in the Cartel.''

He was no fool, and new the man had come here for his own benefit as well - Davik wanted something from the Hutt and Nor'baal new it. ''How might I be of aid?''

"You've already aided in the only way you can." Davik replied, somewhat in surprise. "You're in no state to face the danger outside of your palace and Tal Veren is getting the credit for the succesful invasion, as he's the one commanding the troops. Even a Hutt can't expect to rule from exile." Davik was harsh and little of his initial pleasantry was left after their the deal had been struck.

After so long of looking forward to meeting Nor'baal one-eye, it appeared he was, in the end, very much a Hutt like all the others. Davik pocketed the coin and took the cigar from his mouth "Now let's compare slaves and have dinner. We're invading the Empire in a fortnight and preparations take their toll on your time." He intended to say the latter in a way to suggest Nor'baal had never had to leave his palace and after hearing him say it in Huttese he was glad that it had.

''I will be leaving for Nar Shadaa this evening regardless.'' the Hutt responded bluntly, clearly stating that - as a very wealthy individual - he had no need nor intention to remain in this mire for the rest of his life. ''I have business in the rim.'' he stated, the Mans intention to prepare for the invasion of the Empire being of no interest to him.

In the Hutts opinion there was no point attacking the Empire, it was vastly more powerful than the Cartel, and there where many other ways for them to control the course of events that did not involve the death of billions and the loss of credits far beyond that number.

''A pleasure as always, I will have your ship made ready for your departure.'' he said, watching as the droids carried his own luggage up to the vessel that awaiting Nor'baal himself ''Let me know if you need anything, Enforcer Lorso.''

Davik smiled and put the cigar back between his teeth. So that's what was needed to get under his skin, he thought as he turned to the Hutt "It was a pleasure, master Nor'baal" Davik nodded and began his walk back to the yacht where Jana was waiting.

The Hutt appeared to have scheduled very little time for this visit and Davik felt a certain regret for being so generous with his gifts while receiving such poor a welcome in return. Then again, if the Hutt really could provide steady supply lines to Imperial worlds despite the raging wars it certainly wasn't a visit wasted.

Jana awaited him at the ramp into their yacht, nose pinched to prevent smelling the swamp below, and looked very happy that the two were leaving already. "I thought Nar Shaddaa smelt bad, but it's nothing compared to this place!" She complained as they touched off and left the palace.

Davik killed the cigar and threw it in a trash can. "It wasn't very warm inside, either."
