Just putting my two pence forward that about 100 years sounds like a healthy jump from TROS. Provides ample breathing space and backtracked creativity and such-such.

Though I may not watch the movie for the same reason that I won’t watch a wampa bathe itself but that’s what the Internet is for. Well maybe I’ll ‘force’ myself to see it anyway haaaaaaaaaaaaaagahahahahahaaaa

As stated above, There will always be those who want to use the Force for bad and personal gain. That being said there also will be those who rise up to fight against the dark side. I understand branches of the Dark side like “Sith” may never make a comeback (just a guess) but rather interested to see what the TL holds. Maybe light sabers aren’t easy to acquire as many lightsabers aren’t floating around like in the previous time lines and when both the Dark side and Jedi were bountiful in numbers until dwindling out in size over the course of the StarWars era. Regardless it should be exciting for what the mods create and go with! Changes are definitely going to be huge but not necessarily bad. We shall see.

100 years sounds good. Long enough to have a generation or two gap, folks to settle and some shadows to creep back. The more I immerse into RPing again... the more I'm dying to know the new TL details haha!

Given how many people are already doing RPs in the new timeline, are we still on track for the new timeline to go live on January 4th? And is there anything you can tell us about the timeline yet that we might need to plan our characters or backstories around? Will there be be a Jedi Order? Will there be Sith, or will it be some other Dark Side cult? Will there be a New New Republic? What about the First Order?

Granted, I wasn't around for last timeline shift, so maybe things have changed. I just feel like there's usually more transparency for the playerbase to start planning stuff or brainstorming ideas ahead of time. And that could just be me.

But it is a bit jarring at the moment that you have pre-timeline RPs happening when there's no real publicly available information on what the next timeline will be like, aside from being 100 years after RoS.

Pre-TL RPs are supposed to be used to flesh out character personalities and maybe build up some existing relationships. I hope folks are only using them for that, anything else is probably just diverse RP to pass the time.

The staff are working as quickly as we can, but we couldn't do anything on the faction or lore front until after the movie came out since that heavily influenced what would or wouldn't be possible.

With the movie only having been out for a week and the team trying to get an entire TL put together over the course of 2 weeks, try to be understanding of the fact that we haven't had the time to put together announcements for people.

In previous TLs the "transparency" was much easier because we had 2-3 months to develop these things and release them piecemeal.

Oh, 100%. I get that completely!

I guess the tone of my post was less 'hurry up and get it done' and more 'how are you sll tracking? Do you need more time to finalise anything or are you still good with the currenylt deadline?'

I'm no stranger to pushing back timeline launches lol. After all this is just a hobby. Noone's getting paid. :P

I'll need to read one of the new books and watch The Mandalorian to get caught up on the new lore, but this all sounds great! I look forward to hearing more details about the new timeline.

The nice thing about the way the galaxy is often depicted, including in The Mandalorian, is that most people aren't super familiar with the major goings on of Jedi, dark siders, or really anything outside of their small corner of the galaxy. So while you can definitely watch and read to get caught up on the new lore, your character wouldn't need to know most of that (depending on what kind of character you have, of course) so you can get away with not knowing it if you don't have time to catch up.

With Kyber crystals being extremely rare now, seeing how most were used to create the planet killer weapons, will Lighsabers be harder to come by for Jedi/Sith characters?

It'd be interesting to see new characters actively work via plot to build there sabers. Although I admit it might be to much.

Crystals grow all throughout the galaxy, we only know a few canon sources, but it is stated in the lore that they exist in abundance in some places more than other.

I guess it'd come down to the story, on the rarity.

If we were to say anything about their rarity, it'd like be more for lore/background. We don't have any plans at this point to make lightsabers more difficult to obtain for writers/PCs.

There was an episode of rebels where there is a massive cavern of discarded lightsabers on a random planet, even 150 ish years on I'm sure similar such sights exist all over the galaxy what with at least two canonical wars involving a great number of saber user deaths in the galaxy (clone wars and jedi/mando wars).

I could see the art of making them be something harder to come by, though the force pretty much tells luke how to build a new one from scratch when he loses Anikin's in his duel with Vader so, something something force something something mysterious ways :)

That said I also see no reason PCs can't self impose saber-quests, it'd be one way to feel a deeper connection.

Wookieepedia lists almost a dozen different canon locations where kyber crystals can be found already. Even removing a few like Ilum and Jedha, there's places like Christophsis, Mygeeto, Dantooine, Tatooine and the Adega system. And more sources will probably add to that list as more stories are written anyway, so they're still pretty abundant.

I'd hazard a guess that Ilum being the main source of Kyber crystals for the Jedi is part tradition, but also partially that the size of the Order meant that the sheer size of the crystal caves on Ilum meant they never had to worry about harming the Kybers' eco system there, either - the Jedi could take as much as they needed for their students and the network of cystals would replenish itself, while smaller or more fragmented crystal cave networks on other planets might be permanently damaged by the sheer volume of crystals the Order used.

Also, like Pippa said, there's other ways to obtaining a crystal - old lightsabers, relics, or carvings and statues of the old Jedi Order would all be key black market items, and there were even dedicated groups that tried to return the Empire's harvested crystals back to their original home.

So I don't think scarcity is really an issue in the same way it would have been at the height of the Empire.

EDIT: That being said though, if you ever get a chance to do a crystal hunt/lightsaber construction RP, do it. They're loads of fun and there's so much you can do with them.
