Andruil was not typically one for the holonet screen, but this was entirely too important for anything short of face time and addressing the issue head on.

The camera shot came into view to show a young woman dressed in simple black and red robes. In contrast to her previous addresses across the holonet, her face was not covered by a helmet. People needed to be able to see that the Sith were not monsters hiding behind masks and committing murder, but just people.

She sat at a desk, hands folded in front of her as the camera zoomed in. Her face was serious but not harsh as she began to speak.

Good evening. My name is Andruil, and I am one of the Sith Lords of the Northern Sith Kingdoms, she said.

Recent years have been filled with a great deal of turmoil, particularly between the Sith Order and the FWA. With that turmoil has come a great deal of confusion and ambiguity as well, she said.

Contrary to what you have been told, not all Sith are bloodthirsty or warmongering. I have bordered the FWA territory for several years now and never before sent my forces across those borders, she said. It was mostly true. She had participated in battles, but she had never before launched a battle directly into their territories.

I don't condone senseless violence, slaughters, or any of the barbaric actions attributed to the Sith. That some of those in our Order take on those actions is inexcusable and a matter that must and will be addressed, she said. The statement was dangerous for her, and may necessitate a move against the Eternal to be made with some immediacy than she first anticipated, but the tides were turning against the Sith, and she wasn't going to be swept away with them. The thought was pushed from her mind with the immediacy of the next thing that needed to be said.

I would prefer the path of diplomacy to that of violence. For this reason, I put forward to the Galactic Senate that they consider providing the Sith Order a voice within their proceedings, she said. It was thus far unspoken within the galaxy, but the Jedi had a seat and had been no less aggressive than the Sith in the eyes of many.

As a sitting member of the Sith Council I hold a great deal of sway within the Order and hope to dissuade those who would pursue further conflict. My domain stretches from Bandomeer to Junction and from Spintir to Jamineer. My policies are bound to be intertwined to those of the neighboring worlds, and I would prefer the input of those nearby and the chance to offer clarity and direction to the future of our nations' discussions, she explained.

I welcome meeting or dialogue with any who would bring concerns. I know there are many, but war can only end when dialogue begins, she said. Long speeches were still far from her strong suit, but she had said what needed saying. The ball - which she still felt unprepared to volley - was now in their court.

It was night on Coruscant when Darth Andruil's message came across the HoloNet. Emil was working late, part of a recent push to untangle the complicated web of policy that was Sector Ranger jurisdiction between the New Republic and the Free Worlds Alliance. And, of course, because things could never be easy, now there was this: a Sith Lord attempting to make peace.

The Chancellor summoned his advisors and aides at once. Their advice was resounding: he needed to put out a statement, and quickly. So, he signaled the press to gather in front of the Senate Office Complex, where he worked, and made his way out onto the terrace for a quick statement.

"The history of our galaxy is one of constant religious warfare between the Jedi Order and their shadowy counterparts, the Sith," Emil said, staring straight into the holo-cams. "The recent Sith attacks, and the resurgence of the Jedi have sparked fears throughout the galaxy that yet another one of these devastating wars might be upon us. The New Republic strongly condemns any and all incursions by the Sith into Free Worlds Alliance territory, as well as any unlawful occupations incurred by those attacks."

"We are also skeptical of this sudden offer of clarity and dialogue. The Sith, as recently as Sheev Palpatine and Darth Vader, have no qualms with using the levers of politics to achieve galactic domination. That acknowledged, the New Republic also recognizes the needs of our allies in the Free Worlds Alliance, who would like nothing more than for this needless violence to end, so that we may all address the continued ravages of the AMS pandemic."

"To that end, my administration urges the Galactic Senate to convene a committee to open a dialogue with Darth Andruil, and investigate whether or not the Sith's claims are indeed genuine. If the Senate convenes such a committee, my government will of course send delegates to ensure the New Republic is represented and is able to ask tough questions of the Sith. This is an opportunity we cannot pass up if we are to bring healing to our fractured galaxy."

"In the meantime, my administration will continue looking into to solutions to the ongoing war and will regard the whole of the Sith as enemies until we are given sufficient reason to consider them otherwise. That is all."

A flurry of question hurled his way from the throng of gathered reporters, but Emil ignored them all, turning around and escaping back inside the Senate office building. He needed a stiff drink. Maybe two.

"Senator Drast," Caliban was yet again intercepted as he emerged from the Senate building, "a moment of your time?"

Caliban sighed inwardly as he noticed the reported, Strawberry Fields, he could almost guess where this was going. "For you Miss Fields, a moment is probably all I should spare."

Ignoring whatever intent there might have been behind the Senator's response, the young Fields jumped straight to her question. "What are your views on the constitutional ramifications of the call for representation put forward by the Queen of Dathomir?"

Again the young reporter's question caught Caliban by surprise, this time because he had been expecting something way more outlandish from her. This seemed almost, sensible? Well, he was more than willing to give someone a second chance. And knowing full well the hurdles that one faces when making a name for themselves in her field, he was willing to concede that maybe his previous encounter with her was nothing more than a means to an ends. A way for her to gain the exposure she needed to begin doing the job she wanted to do. Actual journalism.

So he replied as he would to one with genuine interest in the matter. "Well the Galactic Senate as a body is young enough that the true constitutional ramifications of the request might not be entirely clear. There might not be anything legal to reject this request, but there is the matter of.." He was cut short as Fields spoke up. "I am sorry Senator, but the question was not with regards to the Galactic Senate's laws, but rather your presence in the Senate." It was then that Caliban knew that everything he had thought about this woman moments ago was all wrong, one look at her face gave him a sense of what was to come. "I have it on good authority from multiple legal experts that the presence of a descendant of the Sith Line of Darth Siris, also known as the Good King Siris, in the Senate already gives the Sith the representation they seek. My question is about the legal ramifications of effectively giving the Sith two seats by adding yet another representative to the Senate. I am sure you understand that our viewers might fear that such a move might be illegal."

Caliban just looked at the woman for a moment, wondering where she came up with this stuff. Shaking his head he walked away, leaving the exceedingly smug Strawberry Fields standing in his wake with a wicked grin on her face.

A high-pitched whistle announced the arrival of Captain Horst Souther to the command deck of the CSS Carrick, in the traditional way. Souther strode across the short distance between the blast door and his captain's chair, saluting the crew and issuing an order to stand at ease before he sat down. "Get this broadcast up," Souther instructed the communications officer.

"Sir." Officer Simons replied, and within moments, the main viewscreen was dominated by a picture of 'Lady Andruil' of the Sith Empire.

He listened with a degree of interest, before shutting the broadcast off as it came to its conclusion. From what he could see, the Sith had their own problems to deal with, and, as history had shown time and time again, one of the best ways to deal with internal unrest was to unite the populace against a common enemy - and that normally meant men like Souther found themselves very busy, very quickly.

"Officer Hask, take us to the rendevous point." he instructed, standing up. "Ensign, you have the bridge." he exited the bridge, to his small office off the starboard side, and, once inside, took a seat behind a cramped desk. Activating his military comms, he spoke "Get me command. We need to update our border patrols."

The commlink shattered against the wall, breaking into a variety of pieces. The very annoyed Jedi formerly holding the device staring at the broken pieces. A deep frown marred Alex’s typically smooth features. Her mediation was interrupted by yet another holonet broadcast. If she heard the telltale beeping of emergency interruption in coverage one more time…

She let the thought trail off.

Were all the galactic powers competing in a game of press conference off? Was she being left out? Did she even count? Alex was the most visible of the Councilor, but they were equal. Without a Grandmaster no single Jedi directed the Order. Still, she had enough of the constant interruptions. Alex made the very adult decision to flick the holonews on. She was greeted by an familiar face, one she had seen in Asminys mind. Darth Andruil, Queen of Dathomir…Sith Councilor. Something about the Queen seemed so familiar but she could not place the thought. Alex should have asked Manat when she had the chance. The Morellian Councilor shook her head slowly. Another mistake.

The rest of the Queen’s words washed over her. Lies. Oh, Andruil may believe some of what she said but that avoided a singular truth. The Darkside corrupted absolutely. There was no middle ground, no grey area. Those you let the Darkness into their hearts were eventually consumed by that same Darkness. Andruil’s good intentions would never last. They could not last. Alex breathed deeply. She was tired. That thought crossed her mind for the thousandth time…but what could she do? Fight. The galaxy would not slowly succumb to the Sith while she lived.

Councilor Voran grabbed her secondary commlink and contacted Emil. She sent one encrypted message. “She can’t be trusted.” Alex leaned back and tried to sink back into mediation. She felt very alone in that moment. Her friends growing distant, Max’s death ever further in the past, her students moving on.
