Ask Korriban A tale of piracy

[Nova Trent]

Nova was pacing around for a while now, still waiting for the Nautolan at the counter to give her the credits she wanted to withdraw. She had always been rather impatient and if someone toyed with her impatience, he or she would normally experience her full-blown rage. "There ya go!", the Nautolan finally declared and Nova couldn't wait to get going again.

She was already fuming and she therefore decided to grab a drink in the local cantina, hoping that it would soothe her nerves. She headed towards the counter and ordered herself a fruity but strong cocktail and starting sipping then. She hoped that no one would disturb her peace right now, but here in Korriban it always seemed as though you were never truly safe. Sighting, she learned back and closed her eyes for a second, ignoring all the hustle and the bustle inside this loud cantina.

Dewson Elatar, as calm as he possibly could be, walked into the cantina, pulled up a seat, and thought about how to best speak to the Sith. If he angered her he knew well he could be killed in nearly infinite ways by this woman, and though he wasn't afraid of being punished by a Sith, he of course didn't want it to get to that point.

He removed his helmet and looked directly at the Sith. Speaking up he says "I was to report to you about my recent success in a battle against pirates, and I suppose since, I assume, we are both off duty, we could socialize afterward. Whenever you are ready to hear of my report, let me know."

After a while, Nova felt someone approaching, someone who tried to repress any signs of nervousity. She wondered who that could be, but before even turning around, something came into her mind again. Right. She was still supposed to meet someone here.

She downed the rest of her drink, then turned around to face the man she was waiting for, trying to keep her gaze neutral and not already pissed. The man spoke quite directly and added a weird request at the end. Socialize? She wondered where this was going. "You can begin with your report, then I will see whether you are worth my while or not", the acolyte replied coldly. As always, Nova did not bother to talk to the stranger in any friendlier way. She didn't trust strangers at all and she had no idea with whom she was talking right now. She could still use some fun and distraction any time soon, she thought.

He thinks about how he should go about speaking about his battle, he knows it's not a good idea to brag, but he shouldn't make it seem like it was not as great a victory as it really was either. He thinks he should just be direct, emotionless, and confident, as that should get him a better response than any other way of speaking it seems.

Continuing to keep eye contact he begins to give his report "On the western outskirts of the nearest fortress from here there were exactly two hundred seventy-five pirates leaving their ships spotted, we assumed their actions were to be hostile. I was given orders to lead my platoon into battle in order to take down the ruffians. Once I amassed my troops we traveled roughly two miles north of the
pirate's position. We had a scout giving us updates on the enemy's position in case they moved and we needed to change our tactics. Several men boarded speeders and those men traveled south towards the enemy's location. Once close enough they split up and flanked the sides of the pirates, and fired into the enemy's troops while the pilots drove their speeders at fast enough speeds around the enemy that our forces could still be accurate, while the enemy would be confused and unable to mount an effective defense. Then the speeders were called back to be with the rest of the troops."

He took a deep breath and continued. "Once the enemy had thought they had an effective defense mounted, I had our scout update us on the enemy's location, and I was notified that they had a weak defensive on the south side of their defending army of pirates. We traveled around the enemy, staying far enough away for them not to notice us. when we were south of the pirates, we moved in for the attack. The battle was swift after that, without a proper defense against our attack they were easily defeated, and we only had seven casualties total." He finished his report and waited for a response from the mighty Sith before him.

Nova expected a lot to come from this man, but she clearly didn't expect such a detailed, thorough report. He seemed loyal and fully devoted at last. This was something she could remember when she herself had to report to her superiors.

She paid attention rather half-heartedly, knowing that no matter what, there was no way she was going to remember all of that. Why did he even think that it was appropriate to share his report in such great detail? Judging from the man's appearance, he couldn't be much older than her. Maybe that was the reason for him being so motivated and devoted.

"Well done. It seems like you were even more than successful. My superiors will be pleased to her about that", she now replied and forced herself to a little smile. Yes, it was great that he did succeed, but he could have just kept it short though. Nova was no trained military lieutenant so she couldn't give him anany feedback on his strategy, but everything he said seemed logic and clearly smart. However, she decided that this was enough business for now.."Sooo...tell me something about yourself now. You haven't even told me your name that and what is your rank?", she asked him curiously, tilting her head to the side.

He was proud that a Sith congratulated him, but he didn't want to act like he was high and mighty, as that's a quick way to death at the hands of a Sith, so he continued to remain emotionless, he spoke and answered the questions he was asked. "My name is Dewson Elatar, I am the rank of Lieutenant." He thought of what else he should tell her about himself, he spoke "Not much to know about me, other than that I was nothing but a low life form on a poverty rotten planet until the Empire showed up." He ordered beer and waited for his drink to arrive.

He didn't want to say too much about his life to the Sith, seeing as they only just met, but he told her pretty much his life before he was a Sith Empire soldier. But he decided he could trust the Sith, and he told her more. "My mother died of childbirth, and my father died of a heart attack when I was 10, I had to work jobs I hated just to survive, there was no foster care on my planet, kids without parents had to look out for themselves. Eventually, the Empire conquered my homeworld, and when they did, I signed up for the military, and I was able to leave my life of poverty behind. For the Empire, I am eternally grateful, for without them I would still be suffering out on the streets." He finishes speaking and when his drink arrives he slowly drinks it, not wanting to drink too much at once.

Nova sipped the last bits of her fruity, sweet cocktail before quickly ordering just another one. Her mood had changed. She was feeling better every second. And the main reason was that she found the man opposite her quite amusing. She could sense his fear. He was respecting her as a Sith trainee but it also seemed as though he was not aware of the fact that she was, technically, still in training herself.

The man-Dewson as she had now learned- was quite young for a lieutenant and if his childhood was as bad as he claimed, he worked his way up rather fast. So he was indeed quite determined and even as he went on, it was proven again and again. He was a rather loyal follower of the Sith Empire and she would put in a good word for him if she was feeling kind hearted later on.

"Interesting", she replied, her eyes still meeting his. It was indeed interesting. How could he be so afraid of her? Did he really think she was going to murder him inside this very cantinas if he didn't succeed to please her? She couldn't help but to smirk. His background story was clearly not the happiest but Nova had unfortunately never been actually empathetic so she left it uncommented. "So Dewson, I have one more question for you. What are your plans for the future then? Do want to work your way up?", she asked him still curiously.

Dewson thinks for a moment, he knew the Sith was being rather friendly, but he was still afraid, he knew the Sith were beings of emotion, one moment they were somewhat happy, then BAM! They are now force choking you for something you said. He replies to the questions he receives.

He clears his throat and then says "I want to serve in the Sith Empire Assault Corps the rest of my life, I enjoy the military life. I also do want to work my way up to at least the rank of Commander." When he stopped talking he downed the rest of his beer.

Nova was still amused by his fear. It was a pleasant turn of events to be the one intimidating others and not being yelled at by someone superior. Here, she was the one in charge, giving the orders and Nova had always been someone who loved being powerful and maybe a little fearsome as well.

She was still smirking, realizing that the alcohol was starting to creep into her system. She had ordered a second drink, but she knew that she had to slow done for a while. Leaning back, she listened to his answer concerning his aspirations. Wow...so he was indeed the loyal dog that wanted to serve his whole life. How boring. But if he wanted to be a lap dog for the rest of his life, so be it, she thought with a bitter smirk. "All right. Seems fair enough", she replied half bored, half eager to simply talk about something else. "So, Dewson. We're are done with business as I seems. What do you had in mind now?", she asked him curiously, deciding that 'socializing' as he had called it was worth a try.

Dewson Elatar thinks for a moment, he had many ideas to start conversation, but he didn't know which was best to start with. He knew if he said something wrong that she could do horrible things to him. He decided on a topic, he stood up straight, then spoke.

"I was wanting to know, I heard stories of a man known as Vader from times long ago, and how he was a being to be truly feared on the battlefield, I also heard of his lightsaber, and wanted to know, was he a Sith?" He stopped speaking, then ordered some blue milk to drink. He hoped that what he said wouldn't somehow anger Nova, he didn't want to die, though if he was to be punished with death, when the time came to die, he would accept it, no longer being fearful, but accepting his punishment.

When his drink arrived he payed for the beer and the milk right then in credits, so that he wouldn't be bothered about it later. He started drinking and waited for a response from Nova.

[abox60=60%] Nova's icy glare was still planted on the lieutenant, but as soon as he mentioned Vader, she started to laugh. Actually, genuine laughter came from the Sith. Was he actually being serious? She could hardly believe it. How the hell did he think about Vader? Or how did he even knew about him? He did explain where he had picked up the name, but since it has been quite some decades, she was just a little confused by his question. "Vader? Darth Vader? Of course he was a Sith, but I never thought anyone would still remember him" she answered, still a little amused. Nova watched him carefully while he was starting to pay, suspecting this was all some kind of joke.

Dewson finished paying and started drinking. Once he finished, he spoke, "It's important to remember the past, it's how you learn from mistakes of ages gone by, but I was just wondering, I thought Vader might not have been a Sith, he always seemed to work alone and didn't seem to have any other Sith at his side, and the Sith Empire has the Sith in legion. Do you know why there weren't any Sith he worked with?" He finished speaking and relaxed a little.
