Vex found that training new students on Belsavis was infinitely more useful than anything that could be done on Korriban or Dromund Kaas.

She had inherited most of the prison population from the warden she had taken them from; though there were a few newcomers now. The Empress had not exactly given her a code of ethics when it came to the Empire's worst. And so, Vex used them. She used them to practice her own magic, and now she would use them to hone the instincts of her students.

Her latest student was another noble. There seemed to be a sudden influx of those. Not that she could complain. She herself was of noble birth. Which was why she had summoned her new student to meet her. Here. On the far end of one of the many prisons she was responsible for. One of the first lessons she had ever been taught by her master was that birth meant nothing. Only one's self-determination could forge them into a true Sith. @Braden

Wodan sat in the back of the shuttle grumbling to himself. He hated long space flights, it reminded the young Firrerreon of the early years after his planet's destruction. Travelling from place to place, trying to make the last of the credits and family name last as long as possible. The low hum of the Hyperspace Engine powering down signalled they were at least nearing the end of this painful trip.

Soon he stood on the surface of the Prison world of Belsavis, a newly acquired jewel of the Sith. Wodan himself was here to meet the acquirer of said jewel and ruler of the planet itself a Sith Master by the name of Vex. The instructors back on Korriban wanted the Acolyte to achieve some real life experience and training outside of its halls, so had arranged for him to study under the women for some time.

He knew little of the woman herself, only that she had some unique control and ability with The Force which at least piqued some of Wodan’s interest. Perhaps understanding this unique power could help him in his revenge? He wore a pair of black trousers, tan shirt and brown boots. He carried his preferred spear as well as the mandated lightsaber on his belt, as he waited in the lobby for his trainer to arrive.

Vex arrived a moment later, dressed in her armor. She had the pendant she had made with the Empress, which would allow her to appear human if she chose; but she found first impression to be important, and her faceless armor was much better at that. Vex kept her hands clasped behind her back as she observed the Acolyte in silence for a long, uncomfortable moment.

"Wodan, is it?" she asked at last. "A Firrerrian. Your kind are becoming rarer in the galaxy of late." She realized how insensitive that sounded, but in a first meeting between a Master and an apprentice, it was vital to get the measure of the student. She needed to know whether he was easily roused. "I am the Sith Master Vex and the Warden of this planet," she continued. "You were sent to me in part because your files indicated that you were interested in my alleged abilities." She stopped circling him and stood only a few feet away from him, staring him down with her faceless helmet. "Is that true? Is it your desire to learn the ways of Sith sorcery?"

It wouldn't be unusual for his answer to be 'yes.' Not that long ago, she had wide-eyed asked the Empress to teach her the secrets and been soundly rejected—having to teach herself most of everything she knew. As it turned out, the Empress was wise, as those lessons had taught her much about the type of mindset one needed to become an accomplished Sith sorcerer. And she took these lessons with her into training her students.

If the rumors were true — if Wodan did want to learn her secrets — he would have to prove himself capable of them first. @Braden

She appeared from some side room Wodan did not notice, the armoured woman appearing as if from darkness itself. She made for an imposing figure, the black plasteel from her helmet reflecting the red lighting in the lobby with a menacing glow. As she approached he gave the woman a bow as was expected by the Sith hierarchy. “Mistress Vex.” He greeted as she got within earshot.

He gritted his teeth slightly when she mentioned his homeworld, luckily his face was still staring at the floor so she wouldn't notice. He righted himself as she introduced herself and her title as Warden of the world. “I am interested in anything that can further my goals, Mistress Vex.” He replied in a cold voice, it was an act of course. If he was honest Wodan was slightly terrified of the woman and the act was perhaps the only thing keeping his voice from wobbling. He had heard rumour of what she had done and what she was capable of, the ‘Magick’ that she controlled was above and beyond the basic Force Abilities that one learned in the Academy.

That power both amazed and terrified the young man; it had taken him a few weeks to decide if Vex was the right person to expand the Firrerrian’s knowledge. He had other offers, ones more martial or mental but this one seemed like it would have the best chance in helping him reach and destroy his goal.

Mistress Vex.

She could get used to that title. Wodan was ambitious, not unlike the other candidate for apprenticeship she had interviewed. She sensed his desire for greater power even as he spoke the words to confirm her intuitions. When she had met and tested Caer, Vex had tested his martial knowledge before deciding to do a more in-depth test. But with this one... she suspected a different approach was necessary. "And what are those goals, Wodan?" she asked. "Do you seek greater power to crush an enemy? To get revenge? To conquer a world? All of these inform and motivate the Lords of the Sith. But in order to reach any one of them, you must first possess one quality. Willpower."

Vex clapped her hands together and conjured a simple coin between them, flashing it to the young Acolyte so that he could see. "Sith magic is based on the ability to bend the Force to your will. To make you do what you want it to instead of subsuming to its will or even directing its will, as you may have been taught in the Academy." She held the coin out in front of her. It was light and simple enough for a basic test. "Call this coin to you. But instead of using ordinary telekinesis, beat the Force into submission and compel it to move the coin for you. The Force has a will of its own. It will resist you. But if you have the willpower to move something this small, I may consider taking you on as my student." @Braden

Challenge: Use a dice roll to measure your success (or failure) at this task. Also allows for a variable of mystery/chance in the story

His Goals? Wodan paused trying to take stock of the Sith Master hidden deep behind her mask, could he give out his plan to this woman? He had only met her today, he couldn’t trust her, that was for sure, not now perhaps not ever and given what his goal was, who it was. Letting slip at this stage, with this little power, with this little influence could only mean his downfall. “Everything.” He eventually replied to her question, it was a half truth for he needed everything to succeed in his task.

The small coin caught the light as she played with the metallic circle. Wodan’s eyes did not leave the object as she explained the concept of Sith Magick to him. It varied greatly to the basic instructions of the Academy, it wasn't surprising as much as the Academies were the centres of pride and power within the Empire. Some strength, some mystery had to be withheld from the masses so the correct people could rule.

Concentrating on the coin his vision narrowed, only he and the small metallic object existed in this plane. The metal was dead to The Force, a small void in the cosmic energy that flowed around both Mistress Vex and the room itself. He could not access the coin itself, no he needed to channel the energy around it to lift the coin. First he needed it to rise from her palm, he gripped the small layer of air between Vex’s palm and the coin with his mind, then like a bolt he slowly tightened his will around it, forcing it to give in and move or be crushed by his will. It gave in and the coin rose from her palm.

Now the air between it his own hand, molecule by molecule he selected them, grabbed hold of The Force energy that was bound to them and forced it aside, making a corridor of empty space for the coin to be sucked into. Like a bullet the coin launched itself from Vex’s hand, crashing into his own leaving a red mark where it landed.

It was a strange feeling, unlike anything he had experienced so far in the last year he had spent with Sith. A smile lifted the edges of his lips.

"Impressive," Vex noted. He displayed the same raw talent as her first apprentice, Caer, but had an edge when it came to confidence in his abilities. Though his willingness to answer her questions fully left much to be desired. Still, she supposed that was a common trait of Acolytes. They were all a bit edgy and less than forthcoming at first. She would quickly break him of that. "With willpower like yours, the Force may yet serve you enough to use magic properly. But there is one more thing I need to see."

She beckoned him to follow her and led him into a lift that took them down into the bowls of the prison. Here, she kept her most dubious captives. Men and women, children even, some of them, who had information important to her plans. She had been too busy lately to interrogate any of them; but now an opportunity had presented itself. "As the Empire's jailer, it is my job to interrogate these prisoners to keep abreast of any threats to the Empire," she explained as they walked. "But these prisoners in particular are specific to my designs. They are assisting me in searching out a planet rich in kyber."

Vex came to a stop in front of a series of three energy cells. Each contained a single prisoner. A man, a woman, and a child. "This is a family of explorers," she continued. "I believe they know where this planet I am looking for is, but they have been less than forthcoming about its location." She turned now to her prospective apprentice. "We're not going to question them today. But we're going to make them want to ask questions. If you're going to be my apprentice, the only people you can feel sympathy for are our own. Sith and our citizens. So pick one and take them over to that torture chair over there." She gestured vaguely towards a chair in the center of the room. "We will see exactly how much willpower you truly have." @Braden
