DESCRIPTION
The 1.4 FD-P anti-vehicle emplacement - popularly known as the P-Tower - is a fixed position weapon system incorporating a light laser cannon in a fully rotating barbette, linked to a precision targeting system for highly accurate shots out to a range of up to 3 kilometers, albeit at a fairly slow rate of fire. Manufactured by the Atgar SpaceDefense Corporation, it has been in continuous production for over a century, and though it is widely regarded as obsolete in the present day, its low cost, versatility and the shear numbers of the things in existence mean that it continues in service, especially with small planetary militias and criminal groups.

The P-Tower is an impressive-looking weapon, 2.8 meters in height, consisting of a broad sensor/energy accumulation dish with the barrel of the laser cannon protruding from the center. Although not especially effective against well-armored targets such as tanks and heavy walkers, the P-Tower's preferred prey is soft targets such as landspeeders, low-flying airspeeders and other thin-skinned vehicles. The weapon is served by a crew of 2, including a gunner who stands at the targeting scope protruding from the rear, and optionally a technician to monitor energy flow. The P-Tower can draw energy for firing from an internal power cell, which can sustain up to 8 shots, although it is more commonly connected to a field generator or a base's main reactor.

Notably, firing a P-Tower is a dramatic event; energy is accumulated in the dish section's capacitor banks, which glow with an amber light before dumping power to the laser cannon, creating an impressive light-show. Infantry who have watched a P-Tower being fired describe it as a significant morale booster, especially when the laser bolt subsequently hits its target.
