In terms of a mission thread the rule of thumb is fifteen posts. They expect some quality effort out of them. Assuming you've done that, fifteen posts is a technically completed thread. I like to try and do more and finish out the story. Unfortunately, I've only had two writing partners that actually did that.

The way I look at it, a Completed thread is one that the writers do not want any more replies to. i.e. They ended on a happy note or just finished the story in general. When people put them under Roleplays in their profiles, they simply showcase what that character acts like. Whereas Ongoing threads may be open to join if you ask those involved.
