I was the exact same way. I finished my characters not long after the first announcements. But then I had a case of "Damnit, now I need to change you because I'm no longer happy with you/I thought up a better idea.
I love playing hunters, smugglers and the like. Backstories are a little simpler to make believable, but Senators can't be all "shoot-shoot bang-bang", so there's a different style needed to make it really worth the read.
They're just as potentially deadly and dangerous, but just in a different way, which is what I find really interesting about them. If I wasn't so dead set on making a Sith I probably would have made a senator.
I UNMADE a Jedi character and turned him into a Senator. It was a very hard-fought internal battle, but my two other characters can do my combat stuff.
