Horuz, Atrivis System

Amun Seti stood in the bathroom of the dingy bar on Horuz, staring in the mirror. He had arrived on the planet several hours before, sent on what he assumed was a wild goose chase. He possessed a piece of a map, and supposedly the rest of the map was somewhere on the world. A map to the treasures of the Iridium, a band of pirates that had been destroyed by the Jedi during the Clone Wars. Almost two hundred years ago, Amun figured that it was all legend and myth. It didn't matter though, he had managed to nick the map piece from an antiques shop on Omega and he owed Acklay big time, big enough to attempt this venture alone.

Almost alone.

Amun looked in the mirror, barely recognizing his face even though the Crimson Dawn had only altered it slightly. Between the black hair and softer features, the only thing he recognized were his silver eyes. The face looking back at him looked too familiar thought. A flash of memory, the stench of ozone and burning flesh. He closed his eyes trying to purge it, but could only see Jeset looking back at him. Not the silver haired Sith who had murdered a girl in cold blood all those years ago, but the Jeset who's name he stole. He shook his head, trying to shake away the lingering memories that he felt didn't belong to him. The rush of power and the tingle of magic. He turned and rushed to the toilet to puke.

Washing his mouth out at the sink, Amun turned to exit the bathroom and return to the bar. His outfit was simple, something he would typically wear when working. However what was new was the blast vest he wore over it, the blaster on his right hip, the vibrosword over his shoulder. A combat knife and a combat fusion cutter were on his belt and two smaller knives were stuffed in his boots. A tightly wound garrote sat in his pocket. No longer the Sith Acolyte Jeset, he was now Amun Seti. A young mercenary and artifact hunter.

Returning to his seat at the bar, he sipped at a watered down ale as he waited for his contact. A member of the Crimson Dawn, the organization he was beginning to work with often, due to the debt he owed the slicer. She had saved his ass, but it had shackled him to her and her employer. All thing's considered it wasn't terrible. He could lay low, wait for the heat to die. In the meantime, he would work, save, train and study. And if he was lucky perhaps get his hands on some ancient knowledge for himself.

For the first time in a long time, Crow felt happy. Not over the hills acting like a fool happy, but he wasn’t ready to put a blaster bolt through his head, so that was improvement where he was concerned. He was dressed in his usual gear and operating under his alias, which hell at this point was just his name, Crow. The planet he was on felt like Credit General version of Nar Shaddaa, but that didn’t matter to him. When the galaxy was on fire, planets like this one either melted into cesspools or got glassed.

Crow stepped into the bar. He stood in the doorway silhouetted for a moment as he located the merc he was looking to hire. He spotted someone coming out from the back and made his way to them. The server droid took his order, Dantooine cognac, on the rock. As it rolled away he looked to the black-clad merc next to him and asked, “Amun Seti?

The droid rolled up with his drink, he paid for it, then took a sip. “I’m Crow. From your profile, I see you’ve worked with Mars before. I’ll consider you a professional.

Crow was amicable enough, but on a job he was pragmatic. In his youth, he’d loved flashy displays of pageantry on the battlefield but after the number of close calls he’s survived, Crow’s main priority is mission success. On his ship, there wasn’t room for anything else.

A mining company based here on the planet is hosting a pretentious gallery of priceless gems their company has harvested from the planet. The ones we’re interested in are these.

He’d slip his datapad out of his jacket and pull up the info on power gems. Crow didn’t care if they understood or not. “You’ll be compensated with a gem of your own, plus we can split the proceeds of whatever we sell down the middle.

That was generous. Like really generous. All the Merc had to say was yes and they’d be on their way.

It didn't take long for a man to sit next to Amun at the bar and ask for him by name. Must be his contact.

"That's me." He said quietly before sipping his drink. The man introduced himself, Crow. Obviously an alias. He had access to information about Amun so he was likely a part of the Dawn. Mars was a new one, perhaps a closer peak at the identity that Acklay kept hidden behind that mask.

"That's good." He responded quietly to the man's comment about considering him a professional. As far as Amun considered it, he was. He had been doing field work from a young age under the tutelage of a Sith, of course that was all well and hidden in the past, buried alongside a name that died over Junction. Still the skills and knowledge remained.

Crow explained the job, a gallery hosted by a mining corp. Showing off the spoils they had ripped from Horuz's crust. Gem stones and crystals galore, worth plenty on both the open market and the shadier one. Amun glanced over the datapad that Crow slid his way, eyes browsing the information, one eyebrow slowly rising the further he read. Very interesting. Even more interesting was the compensation, very generous. He wondered if there was a catch.

"I'm in." He said before knocking back the rest of his beer. It was practically water but that was the point, no reason to go about working with a buzzing head. "Do you already have an in on the gallery, or is that where we start?" He asked as he set the empty cup down. Right to business. Something like this could fill the debt he owed Acklay, Mars, up quite nicely. Maybe enough left over to buy himself something nice as well.

Crow’s face spread into a satisfied smile as Seti agreed. It would have been insane to turn down the job, but outlaws were weird that way sometimes. He’d lost count of the supposed criminal scum that had dropped out on him mid-mission, hell, he’d done the bailing himself, just not for this type of cash.

Getting in isn’t the problem, but getting out will be.” Crow pulled out a ratty pack of cigarettes and lit one up. He offer the other guy a smoke as he continued, “You and I will pose as a towel delivery company, I know how that sounds, but you’d be surprised how quickly people are to turn a blind eye to a delivery driver.” That had been Crow’s mantra for most of his career. If you looked like you belonged, you did. Most people got caught when their ego outweighed the mission.

Before I go further we need to wait for the final member of our little team.

Crow was sure Amun wasn’t gonna like the prospect of a third, but Crow didn’t really care. This wasn’t some union job, and two people weren’t going to be enough to manage this kind of job anyway, but he’d hear the other guy out if he had any legitimate concerns. No need to burn a bridge before getting to use it.

Just then the door of the establishment announced a newcomer with a sharp hiss of compressed air.

Huh, that looks like him now.

Damon Crow - Captain Damon Crow - used to like Horuz.

A slave world appealed to several of his many and varied interests. That and slavery could be easy credits, if you knew how to do it properly. So many people didn't of course, but more fool them. Damon was not one of them.

Spending nearly thirty years in a Horuzian penal facility had now taken the shine off the place though. He might be out now and less set back than most, but it would take a bit of time to feel comfortable here again. All the better that he would soon be off sailing the stars again.

The pirate strode through the backstreets of the city, sidling into the grubby bar in his familiar longcoat, finery and wide flared boots. The message he had received had been brief, but he was in town and had a long way to climb back to where he belonged. An honest pirate in such a scenario could not possibly turn down work.

Two men stood at the bar - one barely a boy in fact - eyeing Damon with an expectant look. He slipped across the room towards them, stepping around a group of men stood drinking while silently swiping one of the fresh drinks from their table. He had long ago discovered just what could be accomplished when people's attention was elsewhere.

"Gentleman" he said, greeting the two co-conspirators, drink in hand "I have cause to seek two fine men who send messages whispering of treasure and profits. Would you be said profiteers?"

"Towels?" Amun asked, raising an eyebrow as Crow outlined the plan. "Well you're right about service people being invisible." That much was very very true. It was a ruse that was tried and true, though it also meant that more experienced security personnel might be extra attentive to them.

"A third?" Amun said, not really asking as a question. Of course there was a third. More people to get caught, more people to split the money with. Lovely. Amun turned to look at the door as a rather flamboyantly dressed man came through the door. He watched as the man swiped a drink from a table before approaching them and speaking near gibberish. Amun stared at him for just a moment before looking at Crow.

"This guy? Really?" He looked at the man once more, though his attention had never really left him. He gave him an up and down as he took in the flashy outfit. He looked at Crow again. "Don't tell me getting caught is part of the plan." He could already see it, the swashbuckling man buckle-swashing the job, and consequentially them, right into a prison cell.

Crow blinked as Damon entered. He moved the swagger of a pirate from the holo’s. The Enforcer gave the guy an appraising once over, and then shrugged, “Yeah, I guess so,” in response to Amun’s question.

Easiest way out will be with a distraction. That’s where—” Crow gestured toward the pirate “—This guy comes in.” To Damon, he said, “Keep your voice down and c’mere would ya?

Discretion was an average expectation in the crime world, and he wasn’t quite sure what in the hell this showboat was doing, but it was putting the enforcer on edge. In a lower voice, he said, “Amun and I will infiltrate, while we’re in there Damon will hit the outside and cause a panic. In the chaos of the attack, we’ll drop the chest into our towel hamper and kriff off the way we came.

He took another drag off his cigarette, then said, “We meet at the rendezvous point, you guys get paid and we can all ride off into the sunset.

Crow didn’t mention he’d enlisted an HK-assassin droid for that portion of the job. He wasn’t going to double-cross anyone, but he sure as hell didn’t trust a pirate. Which was ironic considering he had an entire crew under his employ.

The boy seemed concerned about Damon's attire and was remarkably confident for a mere sprite. "We all have our talents master...Amun" he took his cue on the name from the other fellow "I can assure you mine are more than up to the task". They had different approaches it seemed, but one could carve a successful life without pretending to be a towel merchant.

"In fact" he said, unexpectedly digging the point of his hook into the table "seems to me that I be at the sharp end of this affair, more in harms way than the two of you". His dark eyes flashed from one of them to the other. "Greater the risk, greater the share of the reward should be. I'll take three gems for myself, rather than just the one".

He made it a statement, rather than a question, but every good bargain was a negotiation. Besides, he had particular uses for gems of this kind, whereas he doubted either of these mercenaries understood anything but their price.

"And you" he said, turning to the one going by 'Crow'. "We cannot very well undertake this venture going by the same name. I wager I've been using Crow in these parts longer than you. You look like a Kross to me".

Amun still had his uncertainties about the job as Crow explained the job. "Alright." He agreed with a nod and a shrug. If worse came to worse, he could always just bail. The score was certainly worth a bit of risk.

Amun's eyes settled on the pirates hook hand as he dug the point into the table. The man had a hook hand. Could things get more ridiculous? Perhaps he would buy himself a proper prosthetic with his share of the reward. Amun looked to Crow as the pirate tried to extort a bigger share of the reward. There was certainly a flicker of annoyance in Amun's eyes but he quickly subdued it as he let the man doing the hiring worry about such matters. So long as he got paid.

Captain Hook seemed to have his mind on even less serious matters however as he launched into a tirade about moniker appropriation, suggesting an alternative name for Crow that seemed more like an insult. The boisterous pirate was beginning to grate and Amun wondered if there was a shortage of professionals in the area.

"You two figure out the name thing, I'm gonna hit the refresher. Let me know what to call you both when I get back." Amun said before standing and walking back to the refresher that he had come from earlier. His mind was busy as he walked though and he had no intention of leaving the conversation behind as he focused his mind. The bathroom had no door and it was a simple matter of leaning against the wall just inside as he let his senses slip back to the bar, his eyes closed as his sense of hearing attuned and filtered out the general chatter of the bar to focus on the continuation of the two's conversation.

Crow smiled at the pirate, but the expression didn’t reach his eyes. He’d come up as a pirate. He understood life, but that didn’t mean he had to put up with it. Damon pressed for more money and Crow responded simply, “No.

The split wasn’t up for debate. If The Pirate was in a position to negotiate terms he wouldn’t be sitting at the bar now, ready to work. “One gem a piece and we split the take evenly.

He’d let Damon make his decision.

The Pirate decided to bring up the name game. Crow could feel his patience waning for the newcomer. He took a drag off his cigarette considering how hard he needed to come down on this upstart. Sometimes people worked better after putting your boot on their throat. Seti left the table to them as the tension started to build. Crow’s face was expressionless. “You give me another order and I’ll blow your fucking brains out the back of your head.

Even as he finished the words, The Pirate would notice his hand was sitting on the butt of his blaster.

He let the statement settle between them. Crix “Crow” Dolan wasn’t some wannabe pirate from nowhere. He was the defender of the Kessel Run and an Enforcer in Crimson Dawn. He’d organized this operation, and while he was always open to collaborating, it appeared he needed to establish the pecking order.

The other Crow was a disappointment, but had balls, telling Damon flatly that the terms were not up for negotiation. The pirate had hoped they might meet in the middle at two gems, but he could sense the man was serious.

His threat to shoot Damon only underlined his apparent lack of tolerance for discussion. The pirate did not quake in his boots, but it was yet another reminder that this galaxy did not remember him. It had forgotten the name Damon Crow, forgotten it so completely that pretend towel merchants could threaten a living legend. He would have to restrain his ambition a little while longer.

"So be it" he said finally, leaning back "Twas but a negotiation, no need for us to cross barrels and blades". He downed his drink and readied himself. "One gem each and two Crows it be. Send me the details and signal when you want your distraction. You'll get it".
