JEDI TEMPLE, ITHOR
6.30pm local time

It was a rare thing for the Jedi to come together. With their numbers scattered and their duties many, the members of the Order almost never had chance to gather and reflect as a family. But when it mattered, they made the time.

A Knighting Ceremony was one such occasion. A ritual evolved over thousands of years, it marked the advancement of a Jedi Padawan to the rank of Knight; a full-fledged member of the Order with the skills and experience to be a beacon of light and an envoy of hope.

It had been four years since Dash Pavan had left his childhood home on Rhinnal to join the Jedi Order. That decision had indeed been one of hope, but also fear. Fear of what he might become without the guidance and support of those who knew the Force. It had turned out to be one of the smarter decisions he had made. In that short time, he had learnt much about what it meant to be a Jedi, to go from Padawan to Knight, from boy to man.

Dash fiddled again with the strap of his shoulder cape. His Knighthood had been somewhat in doubt these last few weeks, but now everything was settled he was not sure it needed to be such a public affair. However, the Council were determined to use the Knighting as a springboard to portray growth and vitality in the Order and he would be lying if he didn't admit part of him loved having a special day.

He stood awkwardly in the quiet clearing, pacing the makeshift aisle between the lines of benches that had been laid out. From what he knew, the senior Jedi attending would stand at the front and there would be some pomp and ceremony. He would probably have to say some special words or something similar, no doubt with Hera (@Black Noise ), Zathria (@Phoenix ) and maybe the Grandmaster herself (@Valen Pelora ) looming over him.

What concerned him far more in a way was that most of the Jedi he had come up with would be sitting behind him, just watching and waiting for him to screw this up. Whooping Leon (@Zay ) and chin-jutting Ferrin (@Altaris ), studious Vand (@LouJoVi ) and probably a whole host of others. Maura (@lizziie ) and Lia (@LadyRen ) had clearly been involved in the prep; no one else could have thought flowers petals were necessary or appropriate.

The Ithor sun was dipping towards the horizon, but the heat of the long summer's day had yet to dissipate. It was a formal occasion and Dash had dressed in formal Jedi attire, albeit with a shoulder cape with as much flair as he dared. He hoped the official bit would not last too long; he was already itching to undo his collar and get to the buffet, drinks and dancing.

He peered around as people began arriving and taking their seats, painting on a relaxed smile even as he started panicking inside.

Where the hell was Ezra?! (@Sreeya )

Hera hummed quietly as she walked down the aisles and toward the front clearing where Dash paced back and forth. With her blackened goggles removed and placed into her pocket, her pupilless eyes were affixed on her Padawan. 'No,' she thought, 'former Padawan now.' Hera was dressed in a traditional set of Jedi robes and a cloak, one of the few times she ever took off her armor. Additionally, she had her hair braided in order to look nicer than normal. This was an occasion worth looking nice.

Walking up to Dash, Hera embraced him without a word. Releasing him, she grinned widely and spoke, "Congratulations, Dash. You've more than earned this, and I cannot express in words how proud I am." Tears had begun to form in her eyes and Hera furiously attempted to rub them away the moment she felt the waterworks begin. The pair had endured a rocky few weeks before this, a misguided interaction where Hera had spoken harshly and prematurely. Thankfully, Dash had not only endured it but appeared to come out stronger as a result.

But these past few weeks had also been the first time Hera had given a heartfelt apology for something she did. The Jedi Master knew she was possibly the most stubborn and hardheaded warrior in the entire order, and Dash had pulled a genuine apology from her, a concession that he was right and she was wrong. While most might've seen that as simply a sign of maturity from Dash, to Hera it felt utterly miraculous.

Continuing to smile, she looked around and spoke once more, "I'm going to sit down now, too much standing is bad for the knees. I'm sure everyone else will be arriving soon- so don't be nervous! Everything in your life has led to this moment, and everything will be perfect." Hera meant what she said, as well. No one deserved this promotion more than Dash in her eyes. There possibly was a little bit of bias in there, but Hera was nothing if not a little emotional.[/abox3}

This was always interesting. It was easy to feel as though the Jedi were a lot less expansive than they were when they hardly congregated in one place. One of the runts of Ithor stood a way back from the ceremony, feeling a bit honored to witness one of her fellow padawan ascend. That would be her one day, she had no doubt; though there was a road ahead of her to tackle before she got to that point.

Erin was too young to feel any sort of jaded, and respected the flow and ebb of the order too much to ever truly... Feel as though it should've been her, though she couldn't fight a nagging feeling at her core, pride maybe... She wanted to be a Knight as well. Perhaps even, one day she might find herself at home, face to face with her parents; though she hadn't seen them... Well, by the Force, how long had that been...

Her eyes sunk a bit, her mind searching for an answer to that question, but having issue pulling an answer. In any case, this wasn't for her. It didn't truly matter what her own feelings were in this instance. She was just curious to see exactly how this all went. Given it had happened a good many times during her tenure here, she always missed these opportunities; now that she actually had nothing to do, there was no way she would miss this one... Although in honesty, she really didn't know the pad-... Knight, very well at all.

Contrary to what Dash may have expected, Ezra was actually on time to the Knighting ceremony. He told Leon(@Zay) he could punch him in the face if Ezra didn't get out of the shower on time, and it was incentive enough to get ready quickly. As usual, he refused to wear Jedi robes or tunics, opting instead for a crisp outfit that managed to make him look even taller than he already was. His hair was styled, he sported a bit of stubble, and he had an expensive chrono on his wrist.

He looked around for others he knew, spotting a girl (@Aspire )he hadn’t met that was over a foot shorter than him. His piercing, silver gaze fixed on Hera for a moment, his jaw tightening at the sight of her embracing Dash. As if she hadn’t been the sole cause of his state of intense distress the past few days. Dash may have forgiven things, but she would see an icy stare drilling into her as she walked back.

And of course, he looked at Dash, the man of the hour. He managed to make even the ridiculous Jedi attire look good. He had gone through countless scenarios that tested his resolve and commitment to the Jedi. He overcame obstacles where many would have failed, and he did it all without losing sight of who he was as an individual. It was a lot more than he could say about a lot of Jedi that had no dimensions to their personalities outside of being a Jedi.

Ezra kept his distance for now, eyeing him quietly from near the back. If Dash looked, he’d catch a smile from the Thorne, which was almost unheard of in a public place. There was a mixture of fondness and pride in his eyes, a stark contrast to the way he had looked at Hera.

Thinking about it, Kaisa couldn't recall a time she had ever attended a ceremony to celebrate a padawan being promoted to Knighthood. The idea seemed kind of odd to her from a practicality standpoint, but she wasn't going to deny someone the deserved opportunity to be celebrated for an accomplishment.

Plus, parties usually meant free booze.

Wait, was the Order footing the bill for this? Did that still count as free booze?

Totally. It was definitely Alex's money. Kaisa was more than okay with drinking Alex's money.

Standing toward the edge of the gathering, Kaisa put on her best casual looking face (something she wasn't super great at doing) and tried to blend in. There was nothing that could kill a party's vibe faster than The Man™, and Kaisa was determined not to kill the vibe.

For now, Kaisa nodded a greeting across the way to Hera (@Black Noise), her eyes scanning the area looking for where exactly booze-by-Alex was hiding.

Maura definitely had less of a hand in the flower petal placement than Dash might've expected. Sure, she'd absolutely been present when Lia (@LadyRen) had scattered the rose petals Maura had provided, but she'd eaten way more than she'd scattered about. Not the same ones, of course. She wouldn't take raw petals over her spicy, roasted rose petal concoction any day.

While her fellow blonde was off doing something else, Maura had wandered toward the back to watch from afar. Since she was one of the first here she wanted to see who would show up, and she munched and crunched on her chips happily until then. As it was incredibly difficult to get Maura into anything remotely formal at anyone's request other than her own master's, Maura was wearing a somewhat nicer than normal sweatpants-long sleeve combo that was only such because they actually fit well and weren't baggy. She had on her latest pair of sneakers, and her hair was tied up into two messy space buns.

"Still a no-go on robes?" Maura had spotted Ezra lurking in the back, not too far away, and had taken a few strides to reach him. "Me neither." She stopped to one of his sides and held her bag of spicy rose chips his way, offering him some if he wanted. Whether or not he accepted, denied, or ignored the request, she would grab a handful herself and continue to enjoy them. (@Sreeya)

"Oh, hey Erin!" She'd only met Erin recently, but she could easily pick her out from the crowd now. Silk-pressed robes, perfectly braided hair, and perfect posture... yup, that would be her. She'd offer her some chips as well if she made her way over. Hopefully, she liked spicy if she accepted, 'cause Maura liked her food off the Scoville chart hot.

"I don't think I've ever been to a knighting ceremony," Maura mused. "I don't think I'd want mine so... wedding-like though." The scenery was giving serious "meet me at the altar" vibes.

Rain had never attended such a ceremony before, at least not for the Jedi. She had been to a few promotion parties for the Guardians, but as far as she knew the Jedi hadn't really had a promotion in a hot minute. Somehow padawans seemed to linger at the rank, so it was only now that she was able to attend such a celebration.

Not entirely sure what the dress code was, she had worn a mix between formal Jedi robes and her old Guardian uniform, putting together an ensemble that represented both her past and her present. Though once she reached the celebration she realized that the dress code wasn't quite as strict as she thought it would be, which combined with Caris' comment during their time on Devaron made her wonder if she was being a little too paranoid with her adherence to the look of a Jedi. It seemed like there wasn't really one, as long as you did the job.

Curious about what other envelopes she could push against, she spotted the drinks table. Last time, and this was just something that she had heard through the scuttlebutt after the actual party, Hera had swapped out the alcoholic drinks for more tame beverages. She wanted to see if things were different this time. So instead of heading over to Dash and congratulating him, which was the right thing to do as per protocol, she moved towards the drinks.

"Two please," she said to the Wookiee behind the counter, "one for me, and one for the Councilor!" She leaned forward conspiratorially, and followed up with a whisper. "Give her some of the good stuff, I hear she's having a bad day." The wookiee gave a quick glance in the Councilor's direction and nodded, worry evident in his demeanor. Despite him easily eclipsing the Master twice over, he was genuinely scared of pissing her off. Rain found that intriguing, wondering if maybe this wasn't the right person to be using to pull this trick?

But there was no time to change her mind as the Wookiee handed her two glasses, making a point to let her know which one was for Kaisa. After thanking him and she turned to make her way to Kaisa, leaving him with one last assurance. "Don't worry, I've got this. Left hand for me, right hand for her."

With that she started navigating her way through the crowd, beginning to sip on the drink she held in her right hand. Feeling a burning sensation in her throat with the very first sip, convinced that this was no fake-booze, she continued sipping and making her way towards Kaisa, coming to a stop before her with half the drink downed.

"Master," she spoke up with a smile on her face, holding out the untouched drink in her left hand "might I interest you in a drink?"

There, done!

The fruits of his labors were finally ready to harvest. Leon looked upon the piece with pride. This was the perfect gift for Dash’s knighting. He glanced at his chrono, the timer was down to thirty seconds. He was so close to being able to punch Ezra in the face. He couldn’t believe how long he’d wished for this moment. Honestly, he couldn’t explain it, he shouldn’t want to punch his best friend in the face, but here he was counting down the sec— Then Ezra was out and dressed, and Leon was late…

Leon wasn’t formal about anything, so he threw on pants he knew Dash had approved of at some point and a black collared shirt that wasn’t wrinkled. He clipped his lightsabers to his belt, grabbed his pack with Dash’s present in it, and made for the venue. He caught up with Ezra quickly enough, hopping off his skimboard and catching it under his arm.

Dude, how cool is this?” Baudelaire beamed with pride for his buddy. Dash deserved this. His mischievous smirk spread into an admiring smile. He took a moment to look around. He spotted Hera and bobbed his usual greeting. Maura was snacking on some chips and Leon threw a begging hand out, obviously accompanied by puppy dog eyes.

Word.” he replied to Maura’s musing, “I’d want mine at a bar,” he mimicked clinging glasses, “Cheer’s and it’s over.

He elbowed Ezra in what would be a normal-sized person’s side, and whispered, ”Now's your chance, go propose!

After their catastrophical adventure on Jakku and the traumatizing aftermath, Lia had needed quite some time to recover and process all the events. The news about how Ezra and Kieran had made it had helped her strongly to leave this behind and accept what had happened, even if the loss of Ciri was not forgotten.

This was the first big social behind she attended after quite some time, but she had done rather well while constantly distracting herself with the preparations of the festive occasion. She gave some of the flower arrangements finishing touches before heading to the guest of honor (@Alhon). She was clad in her Jedi robes, however had given them a more formal, festive twist.

She approached her newly knighted friend and pulled him into a tight hug before she released him and beamed up at him. "Congratulations! You've made it", she joyfully said to him before she left him to it though, knowing that there were many in line wanting to talk to him.

As she turned away, a thought crossed her mind. Ciri (@Wit) would have been proud of him as well. The blonde padawan closed her eyes for a moment while walking, focusing on the living force all around until she would feel this once so familiar presence of her best friend. A soft smile crossed her lips as she opened her eyes. She was at peace with it. Or at least relatively. She still blinked away the soft veil of tears before she joined the others at the bar, greeting them happily with a quick "hey friends" (@Zay, @lizziie, @Sreeya). Everyone who knew her well normally noticed that the padawan had changed and that her usual sparkle was dulled, however she was doing much better and she also knew that Ezra, for example, wouldn't be unhappy about her not being over the top all the time.

Her attention soon focused on the new face though, her smile widening as she beamed at her. "Ooh", Lia knew everyone around, but she didn't know more than her name. "You're Erin, right? Nice to meet you, I'm Liana". (@Aspire)She was oblivious to what Leon whispered to Ezra, which was probably a good thing, because the prospect of a possible engagement would have excited her way too much.

Zathria wasn't far behind Hera in arriving to the ceremony, and she watched the Master and now-Knight embrace, holding back to give them space for a moment until Hera moved to sit down.

Zathria momentarily laid a reassuring hand on the bicep of the Jedi Master (@Black Noise) as she passed, giving a smile of greeting as the two passed before she moved up to Dash a moment later.

She ahd a wide, warm smile on her normally serious face as she extended a hand out to him. She would clasp both of her hands around his and shake his as she spoke.

Congratulations, Dash (@Alhon). It's well-earned, and I have no doubt that you will make an excellent Jedi Knight, she said. The words were warm and lacking in any sort of official or ceremonial rote to them.

She moved over to take her assigned seat and nearly fell out of it when she saw that Ezra was on time. It was almost unheard of and nearly gave the Echani a heart attack. Between Ezra and Hera, Zathria was constantly waiting for someone, and somehow they were both here already. No doubt a testament to the importance of this day.

There was no chance in the Galaxy that Ferrin was going to miss this day. For all of their petty feuding and spats - and that fact that the Pantoran would never say it aloud - the entirety of Scrub Squad, himself and Dash included, had been through hell together. They were forever bonded by the experience. Deep down, Ferrin knew they would always go to bat for one another, and today would naturally no different.

Dash was the first amongst them to reach the status of Knight, and would have all of his friends cheering him on. Of course, the Pantoran would sooner chew off his own hand before ever referring to his former fellow Padawan as ‘Master’.

Ferrin arrived not long behind Ezra and Leon - a colorful gift box tucked under his left arm. The wrapping and ribbon was adorned in bright blue and gold, as is drawing from the Pantoran’s own color palette and leaving no mystery who it was from. In bold letters, ‘TO: GLUB’ was written right across the front of the box for Dash and everyone else to see.

In contrast to his usual style, Ferrin was dressed rather sharply. He wore a
tight black button-down and pair of slim dress pants, accessorized with a belt and the nicest chrono he could reasonably afford. His purple hair was combed and styled neatly into place, and even wore some basic cologne.

“Lookin sharp,” Ferrin’s telepathic voice echoed for both Ezra and Leon, conveyed as the Pantoran rounded to stand beside them. He flashed both of them a sideways grin, nudging Ezra a bit before glancing ahead to Dash. “Wouldn’t be surprised - already looks like a damn wedding.” Though he spotted Hera, he deliberately didn’t acknowledge the Jedi Master.

Though he said nothing - unsurprisingly - the Pantoran offered the newly-anointed Knight a tilt of his head, acknowledgement of his achievements.

Knight ceremonies had once been commonplace. When the new Order was young, there were few Jedi and even fewer Knights. The occasion was one to be celebrated. Even as the Order grew, there were still smaller gatherings held with a Master and a few friends. The war had changed much of that. There was little time for ceremony and even less for celebration. They’d lost a piece of themselves by neglecting who they were outside the battlefield. Alex hoped to put those pieces back together. Dash served as a powerful example of turning corner from student to teacher.

The Grandmaster arrived shortly after the start of the festivities. Her Force signature was carefully dampened. This was not her party. The focus should be on Dash. She wore traditional Jedi robes, no armor, her saber tucked against her hip. Alex’s eyes found Hera first. She smiled softly towards Dash’s Master. The woman had done well with him. She had every right to be proud. (@Black Noise)

Alex made her way towards Kaisa. She could almost see the thoughts running through the Councilor’s mind. “You know you’re paying for this? The newest Councilor’s always treat.” She gestured around the party. “Very generous of you.” (@Logan) White teeth flashed brilliantly in the light. She surveyed the crowd one last time. A sizeable gathering had swelled. It was time. Slowly, she made her way to stand at the front of the assembled benches. Using the Force to augment her voice, she spoke.

“Master Albion, Master Vanloa…if you would join me.” She waited until they would stand beside her. Alex waited just a moment. Letting the gravity of why they were here sit. “Dash Pavan, step forward.” Her voice rang out clearly across those assembled. Alex caught Dash’s eyes, her mind flashing to his for a second. “This is your moment. Do not be nervous.” It was time to being.

Jedi of all ranks gathered in the clearing, greeting each other, taking in the scene and finding their seats. Dash did not think he had ever seen so many.

Hera (@Black Noise ) was the first to embrace him and he returned the hug without restraint. She had sent him into a head spin not that long ago, but there had been time to reflect. He knew she had meant well and that her actions had been borne out of a desire to protect him. They understood each other now, completely. "Thank you, but I couldn't have got here without you Master". He could call her that just a little while longer, still immensely grateful for all she had taught him.

Dash was still hoping she was right about everything running perfectly when Lia (@LadyRen ) bounced up to him, also sharing warm words of congratulations. "Only just!!" he shrugged modestly. At times he had not thought he would make it at all. The bubbly Padawan seemed a little less excitable than when he had last saw her, but there was sadly no time to investigate.

Others were filing past and he spotted Maura (@lizziie ) and the Kiffar Rain (@Wit ) among the many faces. Zathria (@Phoenix ) cupped his hand and spoke fondly, her reassurance that he had earnt the rank meaning more than she knew. The other Knight had been there through some of his worst trials and seen him first-hand. If she believed in him, then just maybe he was ready after all.

Finally, Dash spotted Ezra (@Sreeya ) . His boyfriend was loitering near the back, in a way that somehow told the Rhinnalian he had been there all along. He looked gorgeous of course, eschewing dress robes even today in favour of another five-star Thorne outfit. Dash pulled a face that said wish me luck smiling warmly as he noticed Ezra was flanked by their friends.

Leon (@Zay ) had done his version of dressing up, which Dash respected, and as usual Ferrin (@Altaris ) knew just what to wear to challenge Dash's interest. An idea struck the Rhinnalian and he looked across, speaking to the Pantoran through the Force "Glad someone else could still keep the rest of these guys on their toes today", though he immediately thought twice as he noticed the box in the Padawan's arm. Did that say GLUB?!

Then Grandmaster Voran (@Valen Pelora ) 's voice sounded across the clearing and Dash whirled to find her at the front. She had crept up on him without fanfare and her arrival brought him right back to the moment. Hera and Councillor Vanloa (@Logan ) were called forward to join her; Dash had not yet noticed the half-Annfyn master and had to wonder if invisibility is something you learned later.

"Master" he said softly to Voran, bowing his head and stepping forward.

Hera smiled as Dash (@Alhon) spoke, then stepped away to scan the crowd. And quite a crowd had gathered. The Jedi, both those that Hera knew and those she did not, had come out in force for Dash. On top of that, Zathria had come up to give her congratulations with a soft touch of Hera's arm. It was nothing more than a physical acknowledgment of presence so that Hera did not turn into the other woman, but it warmed her heart nonetheless.

As Hera moved back, she began to scan the crowd for the faces she could recognize. It gave her great joy to see so many faces, though the face she was particularly looking for was that of Ezra Thorne (@Sreeya). To say that Hera had a rocky relationship with the Padawan would be a gross understatement, and the moment that she caught his gaze at her out of the corner of her eye she could see that he had not forgiven her yet.

But whether or not Ezra cared for Hera was not her concern at this moment, she looked for him to see that he was here for Dash. To see for her own selfish desires that she had not torn the two apart. From the way that Ezra still looked at Dash, Hera could see that their relationship still held strong. Breathing a sigh of relief, Hera moved to stand beside Grandmaster Alex (@Valen Pelora) as she was called over.

Crossing her arms behind her back, Hera stood to the side of Alex and quietly smiled. Everyone else would be taking their seat now, preparing to see and hear the Knighting of Dash Pavan. Hera couldn't help the thought that crossed her mind as she waited on the Grandmaster, 'This is good, Dash had done more than enough to deserve this. We should do this for every Knight from now on.'

Ezra was about to wave to his Master (@Phoenix ) when he caught her looking at him and almost taking a tumble. What? He could do nothing but stare blankly at her, wondering what just happened. He looked over when Maura (@lizziie ) walked by, “‘Ey,” He greeted her, reaching out for a fist bump. He looked over towards the food table, floated over some napkins, and then used it to grab the chips. Ezra didn’t like food residue on his hands, “Maybe if the robes didn’t look like something my great Aunt Jamila Altaris would wear..” He muttered. The chips had a nice, spicy burn just the way he liked.

Now that she mentioned it, the whole thing did look like a wedding ceremony set up. Even down to the flowers. He looked over when Leon (@Zay) showed up and they did their usual handshake. Ezra nodded in approval to Leon’s attire for once. He had been teaching his best bud how to iron and other etiquette skills that were drilled into him by his Pops. While Jaikus adjusted back to his pampered lifestyles, Emryc stuck to his humble roots, still doing all his chores and upkeep himself. He refused to have his children not know basic skills.

Ezra glared at Leon when he blurted out about proposing, elbowing him right back, but right in the gut to make him buckle. He kept his gaze calmly trained ahead as if nothing happened, looking around to next spot Liana (@LadyRen ). Ezra’s face did the slightest twitch at her demeanor. He had found her annoying before, but he was surprised at how much he disliked this new persona. It didn’t feel like her. Externally, he simply gave her a nod, surprised at the change.

He saw Ferrin (@Altaris) approaching, surprised at the outfit choice. Of course, it was still distracting as hell, but he expected the Pantoran to show up half naked. A faint grin appeared on his face at the present titled to Glub. For all their hardships and the near-death experience, they all came out of it stronger together. Ezra looked over at Ferrin when he added to the proposal comment, “Oh? Did Dur and Reed break up then?” He asked with a smirk, recalling the cover story Ferrin used solely to upset Dash.

Ezra’s attention was turned up front when the Grandmaster called the Councilors over. He had never witnessed a knighting and felt a bit uneasy as he watched Dash surrounded by the ancient women, “Are they about to do some voodoo chanting or drain his blood or what?” Even if he was a Padawan, he still considered Jedi strange, eccentric hippies or borderline cultists.

Alex waited for the noise of the crowd to settle once Dash stood before her. Kaisa and Hera to her sides. Her eyes swept across the gathering. She spoke clearly. Her voice cutting across the rows of benches. “We begin with the recitation of our long and ancient history...” Her voice perfectly solemn. A wonderful monotone. Again, she paused. A small smile just beginning at the curve of her lips. She could almost feel the collective sigh bubbling up. “Although I fear you all might fall asleep.” That smile spread across her face. The solemnity quickly fading from her voice. Alex took a small breath and let the Light in. Her barriers fell so that Force flowed like rapids through the Grandmaster. “This is not about who we are, or what we might be, but a celebration. A celebration of a young man who has proven himself to be an example others should follow.” Alex’s eyes shifted to Dash.

“A young man who has stood tall in the face of the Darkside, fiercely loyal to his friends, and with tremendous love in his heart. A young man who we should all be proud to call family…kneel.” She would wait until the soon to be former Padawan would take a knee. Her lightsaber flicked into her hand. The pure white blade coming to life with a snap-hiss. The crystal was once Oota’s and now belonged to her. Fitting.

The blade fell over his left shoulder. “By the right of this Council.” Now over his right. “By the will of the Force.” Now over his head. “You join us in Knighthood.” She let the blade fall to her side. “Raise, Dash Pavan. Knight of the Jedi Order!” Her left hand rose and all the trees around them suddenly bloomed. A hundred different flowers of all variety on Ithor. A burst of sudden color and scent. The petals in the walkway rushing into the air. Alex winked a Kaisa. She wasn’t above a little showmanship. The Grandmaster’s voice raised again. “Now all of you stop staring and go have fun. This is a party.” Another wave of her hand sent music playing from somewhere. She lowered her voice for half a second, turning to look at Hera. “Well done. Very well done.” (@Black Noise)

Of course Leon dapped Ezra up as was required to maintain their title of cutest buddies in The Order. He let out a hearty, “Oof,” as the bigger dude's humongous elbow his Leon’s little tumtum. As he was recovering Liana came over and said hi.

Hey, homie!” he managed still trying to get his breath back. He’d never had the pleasure of knowing her before the incident, but from what he could tell from the way others reacted to her, she wasn’t the same.

As soon as the chip hit Leon’s mouth he knew he’d fucked up. Panic registered across his expression as he leveled a look that conveyed both the pain and confusion in Maura’s direction. There were plenty of things he loved about Maura. Streetwear, pranks, and skimboarding for sure sat at the top of this list, then WAY WAAAAAAAAAY down at the bottom was her love of lava in food form.

Has-ha-Why? Why are they good?” he pleaded with her before turning toward the bar and praying they had some blue milk. Ferrian’s arrival momentarily distracted him from the pain and Leon thought, “Thanks cutie, that shirt is dope!

The burn was just starting to relent (@Logan). When Leon noticed the gift. He had to stifle a laugh when he read the name tag on it. “Nice touch,” he thought to Ferrin, sending a flash of the name on the gift, and just like that, Leon felt whole. The camaraderie between the four of them ran deep. He considered each of them his family, and he couldn’t wait to make fun of Dash once he was officially a knight.

Honestly, I’m mad Neon wasn’t even considered…” he thought, his patented smirk making an appearance, before the grandmaster stepped forward to begin the proceedings. Leon struggled not to laugh when Ezra asked his question.

Uh, I don’t think so?" he said purposefully unconvincing. Granted, Leon had no idea how this was going to go, and the Jeid could be weirdly traditional, but bleeding Dash dry felt more like the nightsisters, than The Order.

Holy shit this is going to take forever…” he muttered, until the Grandmaster smiled. The sigh of relief that escaped the collective of Jedi was hilarious. Then suddenly as if a veil was stripped back, the force poured over the gathering. The Light was warm. Like the lingering warmth of a hug from a loved one. The snap hiss of her lightsaber affected him more than he cared to admit, but the palpability of the force kept him centered.

And just like that, it was over. “Wooo!” he whooped over the crowd when they were turned loose to party. Leon made a B-line for the bar, because duh, and because he was pretty sure Ezra was about to make a B-line for his little Dashy-Washy. He snagged a beer, which he was assured multiple times was in fact a real beer, and turned his Skimboard into a makeshift bench. If anyone had followed him to the bar he’d make room for them to sit.

Dash felt strangely still as the Grandmaster began speaking, her voice seeming to cast a spell over the sunlit clearing.

She did not go into the history in the end, but that did not stop Dash thinking about just how many Jedi had gone before him. The Order was ancient and he was joining something big here, something so much bigger than himself.

He smiled back at the master Jedi, as much as propriety would allow. He was not sure what kind of example he had set, nearly getting himself killed more than once and testing the limits of the Jedi Code. But he had tried to do things right, perhaps it was in the trying in the end.

He kneeled at her command, planting a knee on the soft grass. The white blade that ignited in Grandmaster's hand seemed less like a weapon and more like an instrument today. Dash had never seen that colour and it fit its owner perfectly; Voran was surely the purest of them after all?

The lightsaber hummed in each ear as it was lowered and raised above the Rhinnalian's shoulders. Dash took a deep breath, his off hand reaching down to touch the blades of grass and the ground below. He half expected to feel a shifting of the earth. It had happened. He was a Knight.

He mouthed his thanks to the Grandmaster as he rose, turning to cheers and applause and an explosion of colour as the trees all around them burst into bloom. Deep reds and bight yellows, sunburst orange and pretty pinks. It was a beautiful backdrop to a portrait of many dozen happy Jedi, smiling and looking on like there was nothing they could not face together.

There, in the middle of it all, silhouetted against the vibrant palette was Ezra (@Sreeya ). Dash half walked, half ran up the aisle, smiling awkwardly at a few faces before he threw himself at his boyfriend.

The music was playing and he had everything he ever wanted.

When the Grandmaster implied she would tell the history of the Jedi, Ezra’s eyes already began to glaze over and he started to reach for his NalPhone. To his surprise, she pivoted to moving on with the ceremony. There was a comically surprised expression on his face - The Grandmaster was…joking? He watched the rest of the scene play out, reminding himself that he’d do his Knighting in private. His ego was far too obnoxious to allow him to kneel in public and with a blade that close to his ear.

Ezra watched the ceremony play out and stood silently as the others cheered. He looked around to spot that virtually everyone else had made a mad rush towards the drinks. He still wasn’t convinced it was alcohol or the food wasn’t questionable. Ezra figured the councilors would crowd Dash for whatever reason, so he began to wander around. That was when he caught Dash making a beeline right for him, politely dodging and dancing past anyone that got in the way.

Though normally not one for public displays of affection, Ezra wouldn’t complain when it was such a big day for his boyfriend. He caught Dash in his arms, pulling the Knight into a tight embrace. For a moment, he ignored the entirety of the event. It was right back to just the two of them - like it had been on Thyferra, Rhinnal, Kro Var. Ezra held him like that for a few moments before drawing back to look at him, his arms still loosely around the teen’s waist, “You’re not going to be wearing capes and cloaks on missions now, are you?” He asked with a playful smile that was reserved only for Dash.

Ezra met Dash’s blue eyes with his own, thinking through all they had been through together. He knew things would be different. He knew Dash would venture into a world entirely separate to what Ezra experienced. He would be sent on far more dangerous missions and dealing with Sith wouldn’t be a surprise - it would be routine. All of that concerned Ezra far more than he would admit or allow to surface to his face. Their fingers entwined and his ears twitched the slightest bit as he looked at Dash, “I love you,” He said very quietly, almost as low as a whisper. He didn’t say it back to Dash in a perfect moment where they were alone, but then nothing ever went according to plan for them. The most important thing was that whatever journey Dash went on next, likely as soon as the very next day, he would know he was cherished.

Ferrin kept his arms crossed over his chest - golden eyes flicking between friends. He didn’t miss the familiar visage of Maura lingering nearby, offering her a friendly jut of his chin. The Pantoran’s gaze promptly moved to Liana next, not having seen the bubbly Padawan since the party on Zeltros. Ferrin had heard about the mission to Jakku, both due to the death of Ciri and Liana being captured by Hutt Slavers. The latter incident struck a distinct cord within the Pantoran due to his own past, and he made a mental note to seek the girl out before too long.

For the moment, Ferrin allowed his gaze to settle on Leon - flashing the Padawan a grin. “Dress to impress,” He followed the statement up with a nudge, glancing back to Ezra when the quarter-Sephi mentioned the alias’ they had used on Berchest. It immediately brought a sly grin to the Pantoran’s expression, head tilting towards Ezra.

“Seems like it,” He began, “Definitely Reed’s loss though,” Ferrin added with a wink.

Ferrin glanced back ahead when the ceremony began, unable to hide his smirk when Ezra mentioned voodoo rituals. He was silent - no shocker there - throughout the knighting, watching as the pearl-white blade of the Grandmaster bounded between Dash’s shoulders, and scored the Padawan braid that they all shared. There was an undeniable glint of happiness for his friend and fellow member of the Scrub Squad, even if Ferrin would vehemently deny it whenever questioned. But it was there all the same.

Just like that, the ceremony ended and the crowd began to cheer - and Ferrin contributed with a few claps of his own, offering Dash a simple nod whenever the newly-anointed Knight glanced in his direction. He was already prepared to greet him with a snarky remark, but didn’t miss the way that Dash made a beeline for Ezra - recognizing that bit of warmth behind both of their gazes. In an uncharacteristic example of not being an ass, Ferrin discreetly slipped away to allow the two their moment, following Leon towards the bar - though not before he placed Dash’s gift down onto a table with some others.

Whenever the Knight got around to opening them, he would find a simple gold necklace nestled in a jewelry box - thin chain that glittered in the light. He might recognize the maker as originating from Berchest, where Ferrin had gone back to snag the gift before the Knighting Ceremony.

Standing near the bar, he deliberately didn’t snag anything to drink. The Grandmaster herself could’ve sworn on her Jedi honor, and Ferrin wouldn’t have been convinced to try any of the ‘alcohol’ or food being offered. Temple potlucks had a reputation, and Ferrin didn’t feel like being victimized. Instead, he glanced over to Leon, flashing his friend a grin.

“In the mood for a dance, Neon?”
