Government District, Denon

Dusk had fallen upon the planet of Denon, and yet the demonstrations of citizens in the streets had yet to dissipate. For hours now, protests had begun to fill the streets of the ecumenopolis, angry civilians in response to the news beginning to pour out from the Senate still in session. In response, an address from the planetary authority had been announced only an hour prior, set to take place within the Government district of the planet.

Crowds of Denon citizens and journalists had gathered within the spacious plaza, while dozens of cameras broadcast the scene across the HoloNet. Before them, Jaikus stood before a podium within the Government District of Denon, flanked by the crimson banners of the Empire and raised up above the crowds of civilians that had gathered. He wore an ornate crimson and black robe, the hem of his sleeves adorned with ornamental Sith symbols. The large hood was pulled up to obscure his identity, leaving only the lower hemisphere of his face visible for the crowds and cameras. The hooded Sith kept his arms folded neatly behind his back, his posture rigid as he approached the mic.

“Citizens of Denon, and people of the Galaxy,” He began, his voice amplified across the plaza. “As the representative of the Empress, I come before you to address you in your outrage, and to announce the good things that the Empire had in store for Denon."

“For years, you have been fed stories about who we are. You have been fed stories of the boogeymen beneath your bed, who come to invade your worlds, to enslave your people and destroy your way of life.”
He extended his arms around him. “And yet, it was not the Sith who came and bombarded your world, destroying your homes and reducing your communities to rubble.”

“All your lives, you have been fed stories that we are monsters, I come before you now to tell you that these are lies. Instead, you need look no further than the members of the Galactic Senate – the men and women who claim to represent you – to see clearly who the real monsters are.”

Those watching from the HoloNet would see the feed suddenly cut away from the hooded Sith, and instead begin to broadcast the speech from the Senator of Byss at the latest Galactic Senate Session. Similarly, those attending in person would suddenly be greeted to a colossal-sized holo-projection in the middle of the plaza, displaying the visage of Senator Hedarial.

The voice of the hooded Sith died down, and the plaza and HoloNet were filled with the voice of Senator Hedarial.

“..though it pains me to say, that does not change the fact that we are senators of the New Republic, the Free Worlds and the Independent Systems and not of the Sith worlds and that we have a responsibly first to our own region of space. The plight of the enemies unlucky civilians can and shall not be tolerated or aided, yet we can not be a pillar in the regime of the Sith, perpetuating their actions. That means we need to stop sending any material aiding their rule, be it instruments of oppression like machine guns and tear gas, or instruments of appeasement as the by President Thorne mentioned commodities."

The speech from the Senator was immediately met with outrage from the crowd, the voices of the throng rising up to drown out the speech with ‘boo’s’ and countless profanities. A few seconds would pass, and the projection began to play another quote from the same Senator only moments later.

“If there is to be medical aid, let me be the last to hinder it. But let us do it properly. If the Sith see reason enough to allow our professional aid in their occupied systems, then let us launch a medical campaign that is executed by us. This would mean no possibility for Sith propaganda to exploit the care and rebrand it as their own effort, no selective favouritism in the Sith worlds for Sith appeasers.”

“This,” He gestured to the Holo-projection, his voice pointed and critical. “..Is that the New Republic, and the Free Worlds Alliance, offer you! They do not care for you, or your children. They do not care for your prosperity or security. They would take everything - from the basic foodstuffs, to the desperately needed medicines - from you, only to give it back in the ways they deem fit – all for the sake of improving their own political image.” The hooded Sith shook his head. “This is how they seek to treat you. As disposable pieces in the games that they play, where your suffering is merely their opportunity.”

“You are, to them, nothing more than ‘unlucky citizens.’

"Let it be known that while the Free Worlds Alliance and New Republic seeks to use and abuse you, the Empire has come to provide security and prosperity unto the people of Denon - to free you from the oppressive regimes and plots of these so-called politicians.”

“Let it be known that while these self-serving governments do not care, the Empire is here to ease your plight. To that end, Imperial resources will immediately be utilized to begin reconstruction efforts across Denon - to restore all that which has been destroyed by the Republic’s cruel bombardment. Those of you who have lost your homes will not be forgotten, and you will be cared for while your communities are rebuilt. In addition to the reconstruction of that which has been lost, plans are already underway to begin the construction of new industry across Denon – construction that brings with it the promise of jobs for laborers and engineers alike.”

“And while it is clear the Free Worlds Alliance and New Republic are keen on denying you the basic necessities, the Empire will not hesitate to provide. Effective immediately, the Empire will begin to provide free education and healthcare to the people of Denon. So that no individual – regardless of your economic status or the level on which you were born – will be deprived of the right to health and education within our Empire.”

The hooded Sith leaned forward slightly, gloved hands shifting to grip the sides of the podium. “Citizens of Denon, I will not lie to you. I will not attempt to justify the actions of the Eternal or its followers, nor will I pretend that the atrocities - like those on Firrerre - did not happen. We acknowledge the reputation that the Sith have gained in the eyes of the galaxy.” He paused, taking a moment before he continued. “The fact remains, however, that the Eternal is dead – and all those who shared in its radical philosophy have been removed from power. New leadership has risen to take its place and we will show to you good citizens, and the rest of the galaxy, that the Empire of today is cut from a different cloth. We will show you not just through words, but through actions.”

“Actions that start today.”

With that, the hooded Sith took a step back from the podium. The Holonet feed faded to display the banner of the Sith Empire, music still playing in the background, before it too faded to black.

This HoloNet Announcement is happening concurrently with this thread. Additionally, the identity of Jaikus Altaris would not be readily identifiable by those watching, due to use of a hood.
