Byron walked towards the VCX-100 light freighter and Big-Low rolled behind him. The two of them looked at Knight Tionson's ship, being that a mojirty of their proffesional and past time was spent working on ships. Behind Byron was his own ship, the Skylark Horizon which had a large cargo container next to it that could be loaded with the needed supplies for the mission. "The View I think is what he called it." He told his astromech companion.

For the time being they had yet to decide on which ship was going to be the one transporting the supplies from the Kashyyyk system. Alaris was the place they were headed to but Byron wondered if they should take just one ship or just fly separate. Reports of Trandoshan corsairs had spiked so if they were going to get into a hair situation the Padawan wasn't afraid to admit he would prefer to behind the controls of his own ship.

For now he waited, his thumbs were hooked in his belt for the time being. Walking around the ship he got a good look at the corellian design. Byron wondered who the Knight normally had as a crew for it seeing as it wouldn't probably operate well long term alone. Maybe he had a droid buddy or a padawan of his own. Knight Tallis was also joining them as well. Her Y-wing recon ship was somewhere nearby so maybe she would be flying it as an escort. Seeing as Byron was just a padawan it was no surprise people informed him of mission changes later than everybody else.

Max didn't often get to fly The View because he was, more often than not, needed quickly and when he needed speed he preferred his other ride. After all, the Quad 5 could go double the speed of The View but, on the downside, it could only carry 10 tonnes... look at him acting like 10 tonnes wasn't more material than he'd ever owned in his life even before he was a Jedi!

Still, he had enjoyed flying The View with his little buddy - he hadn't named his little astromech droid yet because it hadn't actually decided on a name for itself and he thought it was the height of rudeness to just GIVE the little droid a name like he was it's parents or master.

He came rolling down the ramp with him.

"I'm not calling you QC."

The astromech beeped at him.

"Because it's not a name it's a serial number, a designation! Come on."

More beeps.

"I'm not your father - you think of your own name!"
he noticed Byron, "Oh hey! Sorry about that. We're still having that argument three years after I found him."

More beeps.

"Four years? Really? Wow time flies and you still haven't thought up a name!"

When Nykoria was told about the mission, she realized that the ship she usually took from the hangars of the Jedi Order—the Serendipity—wouldn't work. It was an all-rounder, with guns, speed, shielding, and even some passenger capacity. But cargo space wasn't among its advantages, and the ship was on the sluggish side of the spectrum. Perhaps I should request a fighter, or at least something faster? After all, Kori's new Padawan probably wasn't ready to join her on missions just yet.

But then again, she was no spaceship expert, and perhaps the Serendipity could be of some use as well. It remained to be seen. That's why Nykoria was relieved to find out that other Jedi on this mission had their preferred ships. Some of them even capable to carry the needed supplies. Perhaps one of them would have a better idea for the fleet composition. The Zeltron would be content with being a gunner; that's why she had chosen her black flight suit for the job.

She approached the impromptu landing pad, the helmet of her flight suit under her arm. The Jedi seemed busy talking to their astromechs, to the Zeltron didn't interfere. Instead, she just waved to them, standing on the sideline. At least her crew was reliable. She hadn't been on a mission with Padawan Ryker yet, but he struck her as a techie and fan of workout. Knight Tionson—or Max, as he preferred to be called—could have his emotions get the better of him at times, but was skilled, experienced, and reliable. Although usually reluctant to work with others, Kori was glad to have these Jedi on her side... or be on their side, for that matter.

Byron wasn't sure if he was watching a bit or some kind of joke that the Knight and his droid practiced but he just gave a quizzical look in response to their exchange and explanation. "So you want to ride in my ship or you flying yours?" His eyes looking past the Knight again to judge the vehicle. Even with the cargo container that dropped his ship's speed by twenty MGLT, the Skylark Horizon would still be faster than an average VCX-100. Plus he was confident in the blastboat's ability to avoid combat despite also probably having more firepower.

From his peripheral vision he caught the pink skinned Zeltron approach. "Hello, Knight Tallis. Are you flying your own ship too?" He had passed by the Serendipity in the landing zones a few times and knew the Y wing variant belonged to her. The BG unit beside the padawan beeped to let him know she was going to head back over to the ship and prep for departure.

As much as he had time for his ship, The View, Max knew just from looking that Byron's ship would be faster. Even with the added weight and bulk of the container, his ship would be able to make the trip faster and, once there, help them evade enemy action better. He looked the ship over and glanced down at his astromech.

"You got the specs for one of these?"
he asked, gaining an affirming beep before turning back to Byron, "If it's all the same with you Byron, me and my droid will go with your ship. Seems our own rustbucket is a little lacking in the speed department."

And the firepower department but that wasn't really something he hoped to be using much today.

Of course there was no turret so if and when there was combat he was going to be pretty useless within Byron's ship which was why, again, he was hoping for smooth sailing. He waved to the other knight with a grin.

"Nice to see you again Kori - couldn't stay away huh? What can I say... everyone loves a silver fox."

He gave her a playful wink to show he was kidding, of course.

Nykoria nodded to Byron's greeding, offering a faint smile in return: "Padawan Ryker. Yes, I suppose I am flying the Serendipity... Unless there's a turret I can occupy aboard any of your ships. That'd make the most sense. The Serendipity has a turret too, but nobody to man it." The Zeltron shrugged, unsure how things would turn out in the end.

It didn't really matter what sort of arrangement they'd reach. However, making the best use of all the ships an their on-board weapons seemed like the best choice. Judging by the looks, that probably meant taking Byron's and Kori's ship... Or just Max's, with its two turrets.

And speaking of the devil... There he was, grinning and making jokes more appropriate for some spaceport cantina. That made Kori chuckle soundlessly, lower her gaze and shake her head. "Nice to see you too, Max. Why is it that I have to fly the Serendipity to Kashyyyk every time I meet you?" Technically, their last mission together mostly took place on Tatooine, but had them go to the Kashyyyk system afterwards. Just as they were about to do again.

The man smiled a little at hearing the Knight giving his ship the benefit for this mission. "Do you want to fly with Knight Tallis? Otherwise you'll just be a passenger on my ship." Byron shrugged at the suggestion, leaving it up to Max.

The two knights had some banter but Byron would head towards the Skylark Horizon to do his preflight checks. The cargo container that was to be affixed to the side of the blastboat was moved and locked into place momentarily. Big Low assisted and it wasn't long before they were given the green light to leave.

Well it looked like he wasn't going to be much help in Byron's ship so getting into the turrets of the Y-Wing was probably going to be the best option. Otherwise he'd have to take his own ship and they'd have to stagger their jumps and their flight time in line with the slowest ship which was... well it was his ship and he really didn't want to be dead weight on this mission.

He pointed to Tallis' ship.

"I'll jump into the turret and regale Kori with stories about how it 'reminds me of the old days' of the Rebellion and the Resistance and the like."

He was not, in any way, old enough to remember either of those but it was fun to play up the 'old' angle every now and then he supposed. Of course he placed a hand over his heart.

"Kori I am offended on behalf of the Kashyyyk system that you seem to find going to it something of a bother - it is a delightful place! Maybe you just need to accept that you really just want to visit it?"

"I could also use your astromech for this one. QC, right? Mine is on maintenance, and the Serendipity can't jump without the droid." Kori gestured at the droid that Max had been arguing with when she arrived. Then she led the way to the patrol craft provided to her by the Jedi Order. Rarely did she get the chance to fly it together with someone else.

When near the Serendipity, the Zeltron put the helmet of her flight-suit on. With a chuckle, she replied to Max's joke: "I'd like to hear about the Clone Wars. Those sound interesting enough." Still, it was time to depart. Kori took her position in the cockpit and started the pre-launch checks. The procedure took longer than normal, as the Zeltron wasn't really a frequent flyer. With a deep breath, she hit the switch to ignite the engine.

Kori made sure that the astromech and the gunner were in position. "Oh, and speaking of Kashyyyk," she'd address her gunner over comms. "I don't mind it... Apart from a couple of issues. Firstly, I'm kind of more accustomed to cities than nature. Secondly, the system is crawling with pirates and raiders." After a brief pause, she chuckled: "Not to mention a couple of Zygerrian and Trandoshan friends I made there. I bet they'd be thrilled to see the Jedi flying around."

Well, there was no point postponing the inevitable. The Serendipity was as ready as it would be. Regardless how reluctant Kori was to take the ship into a potential space battle—pirates were more than just a rumor, after all—she'd have to go and do just that. "Padawan Ryker, this is Knight Tallis. The Serendipity is ready for take-off."

Byron took the controls of the ship but didn't take off right away. He heard BG-L0 moving around in the aft of the ship. His eye looked towards the empty co-pilot seat. A moment of loneiless crept in but the man pushed it aside. Thalia still hadn't called or messaged him back. He had seen both Indy and Hannibal a bit more recently but that wasn't the same.

The vessel lifted off of the ground with cargo container attached and rose through the atmosphere. Big Low came back to the cockpit and began interfacing with the ship to calculate the navigational jump they would need. Once the two ships were in sync they would the stars would stretch and they would be flying through the blue tunnel of hyperspace.

"Think we'll get to meet a wookiee?" He asked his companion. The droid warbled and rolled out of the cockpit to go back and connect to a charging port. "Alright. I wake you for the next jump." He sighed and leaned back into his pilot's chair.

The astromech in question beeped smugly at Max and he rolled his eyes at the machine lifeform with practiced ease. He shook his head in mock-annoyance.

"I don't care that the 'pink lady' calls you QC - I still say you need to think of a name and not a production model. There are literally millions of your model in the Galaxy!"
he joked and shook his head, "He's good for a jump don't worry."

Oddly enough the little droid was actually rather useful and good at his job - go figure right? He playfully scowled at Kori asking about the clone wars but didn't mention it. Settling himself in the gunner's seat with a standard flight suit loadout, he clicked his tongue a little bit.

Kashyyyk...

"I lost an eye to some giant spiders there. Every time I go back my eye aches."
he admitted with a shrug, "But I also managed to destroy a Dark Side obelisk there so swings in roundabouts right?"

The astromech calculated the hyperspace route well and they were quickly following Byron into the blue and white tunnel of hyperspace.

"Do much flying Kori?"

He really hoped he hadn't gotten into the ship of someone who hated flying.

"Ouch," the Zeltron replied to Max's remarks about the eye; comms coloring her voice with a slight shade of static. "Guess I'm lucky that the only thing I ran into was a bull rancor, and only briefly." An eye for a Dark Side obelisk didn't seem like a fair trade by Kori's standards. If she were in Max's shoes, she would hate the place. "That, and a bunch of Trandos who wanted a piece of that rancor too. Literally." Judging by her tone, the Zeltron behind the controls of the ship was smirking. Perhaps she could jest about it because she had emerged from that ordeal almost unscathed? Lumps, cuts and bruises didn't count.

The chitter of QC, and a flash of Byron's ship disappearing from real-space interrupted that train of thought. "Here goes nothing," Kori sighed and pushed the lever, sending the ship to the familiar corridor of hyperspace. "Do much flying Kori?" It took the Zeltron a few moments before she'd reply: "Enough to keep up shape, not nearly enough to be called an ace pilot." That was correct somewhat. After all, she had taken the Serendipity to Ontotho, Batuu, Tatooine, Kashyyyk, Brentaal in recent months. But Kori was lucky not to run into any trouble; her combat piloting skills had never really been put to the test.

"But I expect I'll have done MUCH flying soon. This is looking up to be a long trip," the Zeltron chuckled on the comms. Kori didn't quite remember how many jumps it would take them to get to Kashyyyk. For the time being, all she could do was look outside, though the view never changed. Then it'd be a short return to real-space, another round of calculations, and a jump. Rinse and repeat. "Maybe we'll see a comet if we're lucky."

Approx. 23~ hours later

It would still take the two ships the better part of a standard day to reach the Kashyyyk system. Byron rubbed his hair that was beginning to grow longer than he normally kept it. The man took over at the controls once again letting BG-L0 return to another part of the ship. He had finished a shower in the onboard freshers since most of his time between jumps were still at the controls. Occasionally he had stood at close proximity inside the cockpit with a training remote practicing reaction timing exercises.

Byron still hadn't put anything but the legs of his flightsuit back on and zipped up half way. That was fine since he expected to have time to get dressed fully before they even entered Kashyyyk's gravity. Bringing the Skylerak Horizon out of hyperspace he could see the planet and the moon which was their ultimate destination. Accelerating to a comfortable pace, the blast boat smoothly headed towards Alaris.

A tingle grew in the back of the man's mind while he got the rest of his flightsuit back on. A singular beeping warning came and was swiftly followed by the jarring shock throughout the ship. As a pair of starfighters flew by. Already the Skylark's shields had dropped significantly with that pass. If he had to guess, they had been powered down and had done a fast startup while camping the approach vectors for the planet. Pirates had a history with the Truum sector and over the years Byron unintentionally collected some knowledge about them. Now as a padwan he was having more close encounters with the galactic underworld on a regular basis he would not have expected.

The ship must have registered the contact the moment their drives powered up. But that hadn't been enough for him to do much about. They were much faster than either of the Jedi ships. But now one of them was ahead. Still, Byron didn't want to be out in the middle of space in a dog fight with even as out dated starfighters as two headhunters. "There might be more at different parts of the system that might respond. We can't stay here." He said to the Serendipity. A callused hand activated the blastboat's afterburners and was pushed even further into his seat. The Skylark horizon could outrun the headhunters if it didn't have the cargo container. But they still outmateched the blastboat in terms of speed. Even the fusial afterburners could be used for a short time while the starfighters could maintain 100 mglt with only some mild strain. Even the Serendipity could outpace the Skylark with the container attached. But it wasn't like he was going to remove it. He just hopped the pirates at least wouldn't damage the cargo before that turret could fend them off.

23 hours later

"Swear on the Force itself - three men with a stylus."
he finished his story to Kori as he leaned back in the chair of the turret controls, "And that was the last time I ever gave caffeine to a Gand."

Had the benefit of being both a cautionary tale and somewhat entertaining as well - the council would be pleased that he had done his best to take on methods of teaching that weren't quite so focused on war zones and the like. Of course the chances of him bringing the war zone with him had not been discussed.

The fact that they were almost immediately under attack kind of gave him the impression that it might be him that was right to worry and not the council for their "We're sure it shall be fine" approach.

Grabbing the controls of the turret quickly, he strapped himself in properly to keep himself in place if, and when, Kori went through the typical evasive moves.

"Two contacts registered."
he reported to Kori, "Follow Byron's lead and trust in the Force to guide you smoothly, Kori. I'll do what I can to keep them off of us from behind."

That sure was a long trip. Not nearly as bad as traveling to Batuu though. For starters, it was about 7 times shorter. And with Max aboard, Kori at least had someone to talk to... Well, listen mostly, since her own assortment of stories was rather limited in comparison. Of course, there was one about dealing with the old automatons on Ontotho; and one about accidentally mind-tricking a swindler into surrendering herself to the authorities.

The Serendipity emerged out of hyperspace a few moments, immediately overtaken by two fighters. "Kriff," Nykoria cursed, both in response to Max and to seeing the fighters open up at the Skylark Horizon. "Yeah, this ship isn't exactly built for evasive maneuvers." In fact, the Serendipity was built for versatility. But it meant that the vessel wasn't as strong in each regard. On paper, it was good. Speed comparable to older fighters. Solid weaponry, and even turrets. Heavy armor and medium deflector. But in comparison... The Y-Wing was slightly slower than those old Z-95s. It was much less maneuverable even than the Skylark Horizon (admittedly, the cargo container evened that out). If it weren't for the container, the Horizon would've blown Kori's vessel out of the water.

Luckily, they weren't competing, Thanks to the cargo container, Kori could catch up to Byron's ship flying behind it, a little off to the side. "We'll watch your back, just keep going!" the Zeltron replied on the radio somewhat hectically. The sudden change of pace clearly got her anxious.

One of the fighters had overtaken Byron's ship and got far ahead, banking right and turning around for another run. Nykoria performed a similar, but smaller maneuver to face the incoming vessel. Since the attacker had to make a much larger turn, the sluggish Serendipity managed to keep up, albeit barely. Kori didn't worry about Byron getting too far ahead; with his cargo container, the Y-Wing had enough of a speed margin to catch up with him after some maneuvers.

What mattered most, is that she got a clear shot at one of the incoming Headhunters, while Max was watching their backs. Almost instinctively, the Jedi pulled the firing trigger twice in succession. Both of Serendipity's twin laser cannons spewed a couple of red bolts aimed at the incoming fighter. The raider was raining down fire too. At that rate, a couplemore shots might land at the Skylark Horizon's shields before the Serendipity could interpose between the pirate and its target...

With the afterburners on blast combined with the cargo container Byron could only try to dodge so much. The padawan had gained some distance and was at least dividing the raider's attention. "Cutting power to the afterburners. Better to reroute to rear shields." He spoke to BG-L0 who gave a warble in binary back. "That too." With the stopping of the afterburners the Skylark Horizon regained some of its manuverability.

The blastboat weaved and juked but the headhunter was returning to get target lock again. "Shields still holding?" His focus was entirely on trying to avoid getting hit. At this distance, with the type of armament the outdated starfighters had could still take him out. A series of beeps came from BG-L0 but she stopped as a red warning indicated they had just lost them completely. "Kark!" Byron remembered the headhunter had an ion cannons.

The moon of Kashyyyk was getting larger. Soon they would be entering the planet's upper atmosphere so maybe they were less experienced in atmospheric combat. "How's it going back there?" He asked over the ship to ship communications.

How was it going?

"Not too bad."
he admitted back to Byron and Kori both over the open channels, "They're faster than we are and they know it but they don't seem to be amazing pilots. Patterns are starting to show."

And so it was.

The fighters were, by their nature, going to be better at fighting other, small, ships and they fit that bill. But the trouble with knowing that you were technically superior was that it bred overconfidence. Max held his fire, only firing a few times to make it appear as though he was a bad shot.

To lull them into their pattern.

Sinking into the Force, he waited for the best time before pulling the trigger again. It wasn't a killshot but his blasts traveled quick and hit one of the medium laser cannons, blasting it and the end of the starfighter's wing clean off. The damaged ship slowed to compensate for the damage and the effect it had on stabilization.

Kori was glad that Max took over the comms. The Zeltron was too busy flying and shooting to get distracted. Her initial barrage had mostly missed the target, except for one shot that blew through the Headhunter's light shields and burned through the hull next to one of the engines. Apparently, Max was luckier with his shooting, blowing a part of enemy's wing. Both ships were still around and presented a threat. However, they risked a lot, especially if they tried to follow the Jedi into the atmosphere.

The Serendipity didn't emerge from this attack run unscathed. The pirate Headhunter had landed a couple of hits as well, almost knocking out the shields. A high-pitched alarm whistle served as evidence that Kori had to be less reckless and reliant on her ship's shields and sturdiness.

Luckily, the Skylark Horizon slowed down. It allowed the Zeltron to perform evasive maneuvers and still keep up with the ship she was supposed to protect. Kori circled around the ship, sending the Serendipity into rolls to expose the deflectors yet undamaged by the pirates. Hopefully, it would also give Max some unexpected angles at the attackers.

"We need to lose them in the atmosphere!" she anxiously addressed both Byron and Max, while making the Y-Wing dance around the freighter. One of the ships might not be able to follow them without a wing. Not to mention that the Jedi had advantage on the ground.

There was a single headhunter left. It peeled off as they hurtled towards the ground. The Blockade runner still had more shields than the starfighter. "Going for rapid reentry" He said and made the decline even more steep. The viewscreen of the skylark horizon started to brighten. "This is going to cook off some paint" He muttered.

The ship winned, the paint did indeed burn off. Some of the surface area even caused a smoke trail but thanks to the shields the internal components wouldn't be damaged nor the cargo. At least, Byron hoped so. He really needed to get the blockade-shield for the Skylark if he was going to be moving this slow.

Large cliff tops were now to either side. Rivers and bodies of water came and went from view as the ships speed over the Alaris landscape. Byron continued to check the scans repeatedly until he saw two contacts. "Two contacts, coming from our two o'clock." But as they got closer he saw they weren't the same types of ships. The hologram image would come up on each of their ships. A wookiee wearing beads in a few places around its face and what looked like a ceremonial pauldron. "Wrng raw hggnnr ruu nnnhmph" Byron glanced at his scanners again. The make and model of the two approaching ships as well as their angle of approach said they weren't the same hostiles as they had faced before. The two Auzituck gunships circled at a distance warily. "I'm not very good at Shyriiwook. One of you want to give it a try?" He said to either other two jedi. Byron looked over at BG-L0 and if a BG droid could shrug she would have.

Max got some different angles for attacks on the ship still following them but it was mainly just to encourage the pilot to, kindly, kark off. Thankfully it seemed that rapid re-entry into atmosphere was something the pilot didn't want to risk. Max still got off some shots to make them think about it faster but that was all he did before the re-entry would make it too rough for accurate shooting.

He relaxed but didn't release the controls.

"He's pulling back."
he confirmed over the coms, "Hopefully that's the last we'll be seeing of them..."

And then Byron spoke up.

More contacts.

Good news was that they were Wookies. Bad news was that they were speaking to them and his Shyriiwook was... not too great.

"Wyaaaaaa. Ruh ruh? Rhawk-Arrgh, rrrooaarrgghh!"

"Hello. How are you? "May all the forces be with you!"
