rogue_trader___close_call_by_ladynorthstar-d5ilqx1.png

Hey there peeps. i hope the title grabbed your attention (or maybe my excessive advertising. either way thanks for taking the time to read through this. i'm looking to start a warhammer 40k (40,000) based roleplay. so far i've just spit balled a few ideas. some people like dark heresy, others want to do rogue trader, and some want to just don't care and want to be a kick butt space marine.

there's the 40k wikia and also the Lexicanum if you want to try and do some research. i'm open to discussing the parameters of this but i want us to be based on a single ship (no matter our composition) doing adventures not unlike a DnD or smaller group of people since i don't expect a large turnout for this. we'll probably do a mixture of all of the different types of warhammer roleplays but i'll be GMing npcs, and doing all that fun stuff like mission planning and what not. most likely everyone's characters will start out weak and not very powerful/experienced (with a few helpful npcs to compensate and fill roles starting off)

so if you have questions about whether you can play a xeno, or a space marine, continuity or just good ol warhammer lore feel free to ask. i look forward to rping with those of you that are interested. i'll start working on my character(s) as well.

I'm good with anything, however a battlefleet gothic style rp would be hilariously fun.

oh there will be space battles, you can be sure of that. scuttling, raming, broadsides all of that. any in the future depending on how things go (with IC story building and numbers of people) we might even get a small flotilla/fleet of ships.

yes, i have a few leader characters that would hold the "Warrant of Trade" and be in charge of the ship but if you can make a dope a** character i'll probably just let you take the helm and make decisions for the group and just GM the pros and cons of each decision.

"The Imperial Navy is the Shield and the Hammer of the Emperor!"

b85b38a9db06a1f359f23ca795ca9c88.jpg

SPECIES: Human
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
AGE: 52
HEIGHT: 5'7"
WEIGHT: 97 lbs
NAME: Virator Langsun
ALIAS: N/A
FACTION: Imperial Navy
RANK: Captain
HOMEWORLD: Terminus Estra
LENGTH OF SERVICE: 40 Years

Personality
The Imperial Navy is harsh and unforgiving, its tireless quest to secure the fringes of the ever vast Empire, and it creates harsher people. Virator is once such man, shaped by the world into which he was born, molded by the profession into which he was thrust.

His own attitude toward the rest of the Galaxy is as merciless as one would expect from a man who commands (and has used) the ability to quash the population of entire planets. Seeing himself as a mere instrument of the Emperors Will made manifest, Virator has an obsessive focus on the facts and figures of a situation, statistical evidence being what he relies on, not emotions.

or1qzRw.gif
Dismissed casualties accrued in the pursuit of the Imperial Navies activities as little more that 'discarded resources to attain a set goal' he has a reputation for ruthless efficiency born from a lengthy career of butchery in service to his Emperor.

His lengthy career has seen him fill a wide variety of roles in the Command Structure of many of the Imperiums finest vessels, and has so far allowed him to accrue a considerable plethora of tactical acumen and skills. Known for his ability to rationalize in many situations and seek the most effective solution regardless of the human cost.

Appearance wise he has aged badly, with cybernetic enhancements being required to sustain him as a result of many decades in space. His skin his pale as a result of the darkness aboard his vessels, and the further result of the usually poor standard of food provided to the lower orderlies on board of the vessel.

Skills, Abilities & and Assets
Like most members of the Imperial Navy, he has considerably skills in the area of ranged combat, courtesy of most low level orderlies being given basic training in the stripping, maintenance and usage of fire-arms. He has moderate physical strength, but this has reduced due to his advancing age.

In terms of material assets, the Captain can boast all the resources of whatever vessel finds itself under his command. In most cases this comes with substantial private accommodation, in addition to a small workforce of orderlies and servitors. He has little else off the ship, as a result of his usual practice as exercised by many Captains, of keeping their effects with them as they tour the Galaxy (after all, most Imperial Ships are the size of small Cities).

1458843448-bfg-orkz3.gif
As far as personal skills beyond the martial realm go, they are broken down as follows:

Command - Able to Command a ship load of men with moderate ease, authority comes naturally to him. Rousing speeches and all that Jazz.

Ship Combat - His favored method of Combat, the Captain has a mastery of all forms of Ship Combat, ramming to Broadsides and everything in between.

Logistics - Running a vessel is hard, the vast amounts of supplies needed and the logistical hardship of managing a floating City. The Captain has Mastered this however.

Biography
Born in relative seclusion as part of a prison based family on the penal colony of Terminus, Virator was taken at the young age of twelve to be press-ganged into the Imperial Navy. Like thousands upon thousands of children, he was thrust into the harshness of Military life, his age simply falsified by the incumbent logisticans in their urgency to fill the lower ranked orderlies of the vessel.

The first few years were (as one could hopefully expect) far from pleasant, as he served in one of the many 'Fixing' Gangs, young laborers who simply worked to mend and patch up uniforms and other sundry items, before finally being promoted to the Captains own Office. By the time he had turned 18 he had not seen the outside of the vessel in which he served, and had unknowingly fought in over fifty engagements.

Turning into official adulthood, he was press-ganged once more into the shipboard security force, taking up arms to protect the key areas of the Ship (and key personnel). By sheer chance he was assigned to the Captains own protective detail, and despite his perceived honor of the position, the glamour of the role was rapidly removed by the sheer boredom of his task - to Guard the doors to the Captains private lodging - a vast palace on the northern-most point of the ship.

It was however in this capacity that he got his first chance for live fire action, when a rogue group of bizarre Green Skinned species boarded the vessel. Above the tumult of claxons being sounded across the Vessel, all the young man could hear himself was the pounding fire of his stubber rifle, as he laid down a volley of fire toward the enemies of his Captain, his Ship and his home.

Catching the eye of the Command Officers, he was moved with haste to the rank of Security Lieutenant within the lower areas of the Captains Palace, serving to run his own team of young orderlies to keep the area and its occupants secure, not only from borders, but also from the mutants that occasionally rose from the depths, or the riots that swept the ill-educated and untrained orderlies of the more dangerous levels.

tumblr_no61agR7yS1s60s7go2_400.gif
His victories came fast over the next decade, as time and time again he secure the vessel rising to higher and higher stations still within the vessel, before finally (upon the coming of his thirtieth birthday) rising to the ranks of Security Commander responsible for the overall security of the whole vessel. Within the first three years the Captain of the Vessel passed away, and as the next senior ranked officer (who had often served as the Captains second), he took the helm himself and was rapidly placed into the role, inheriting the Outgoing leaders warrant of trade as per the tradition of the vessel.

With total Command of the Vessel, the newly appointed Captain took to the Command Throne with ease, a natural fit for an almost impossible role. From orderly to Captain, he had climbed far - and now it was vital to ensure he did not fall from grace. Within a week of his ascension to the rank his vessel was deployed as part of a Solo-Class Attack Vessel, the Tyrant Class Cruiser serving as the perfect deterrent for the fringes of the system to which he was deployed.

Engaging the first group of Ork raiders that he came across, victory was rapid - not due to his superior battle tactics, but due to the incompetence of his lightly armed enemies, who throught it was wise to attempt to take on a Cruiser of the Tyrant Class in a fire-fight.

800px-TyrantCruiserBGA.png

All in all, his victory of the Orks served as an excellent spring board for his future deployments, serving on board his Cruiser time and time again coming out on top:

- First Seige of Epsilon: When the world of Epsilon rebelled against the Imperial Throne, a minor Agri-World that served (according to the Local Communications anyway) 'No real purpose' the Captain was deployed to classify the rebellion from orbit. Wiping out the trading station that served the entire planet, the economy collapsed, and compliance was restored.

- Defence of Sigma-Prime: Following rumors of Tau activity near the system of Sigma-Prime, he was deployed as part of a collection of ships to take out the Tau force in Space before it arrived at the nearest Hive World. Engaging them in Orbit, the Captain made a name for himself when he directly rammed the enemy flagship and brought the tau fleet to a halt.

- 1101 Forge World Compliance: The Forge World of 1101 (good names for the Mechanicus we know) turned Traitor soon after thhe Sigma-Prime engagement. As part of an attack force of nearly ten ships, the Forge World was brought to heel with haste, its airspace cleared to allow for the landing force of Imperial Guardsman to take back the forges.

- Second Seige of Epsilon: Some planets just do not learn. Epsilon it seems is one of them. The planet once again raised the flag of rebellion (something about the collapse of their economy in recent years), and was quickly taken care of by an attacking force of Guardsmen delivered by the Fleet.

- 12th Black Crusade: Abaddon the Despoilers 12th Crusade also gave the Captain another medal to pin to his chest, when alongside one of the largest fleets ever assembled, he was deployed to Cadia to take on the vast attacking Chaos fleet.

i've never heard oof Terminus nor am i able to find it on the wikia. is it your personnally created planet out of fanon or where did you read/hear about it?

if he's going to be the Rogue Trader he needs to have a warrant of trade. considering his past that would mean he would only be able to get it if he was in a dynasty or awarded it by a superior who named him in a will. perhaps the man he served under gave it to him since he earned his trust over the years.

overall this looks really good. props for creating it (did you just have this siting around?) the only down side is he'd probably kill any people that wanted to play a Xeno like a Kroot or anything. but i can work with it ;-)

He wouldn't be able to be a rogue trader if he were still in (easily) he could be carrying out his captain's last orders and taking over the ship but also be awarded a warrant of trade for his accomplishments. There would be a lot of burocratic confusion and minutiat, overlap between military and private endeavors and what not. If he's still in the navy he would be less likely to lead the group (if we go with the RT gameplay) but could be an escort or advisor to another RT character. The conflict could be a good dynamic abd doesn't have to be negative. Cause some friction and all that.

I'll adapt the profile to make him an RT then :) I like the idea of him being left it by the previous Captain!

This sounds fun! I'd probably be down for a DnD-style adventure thing, would a skitarii character be allowed? If not I love me some kick-butt space marines. We could do a death watch type thing for missions.

There is probably going to be a small squad of death watch onboard depending on what people want to do but yes Skitarii are also permitted.

If the RT needs a Seneschal, I could revive a character concept I often toyed with during games. And if this is tabletop. I have practically all of the 40k corebooks, expansions, and such for Rogue Trader, Dark Heresy, and Black Crusade should y'all want to go down the Chaotic path. I've been known to make one hell of a Tech Priest/Priestess God help you if I do. Or Psyker as well.

I've had a deeper look into the lore (I've collected necrons in the past but never too seriously) and I think I'd like to do a deathwatch guy from either the space wolves or dark angels, if that's allowed.
